4 A ACRYONYMS Acronym ALS AVI AVI READER BIW BOIG ControlLogix DB Module DCM DCTC CHRYSLER DH+ Downtime DWS Ethernet Firewall Description Automatic Line Stop A QAS function that stops the assembly line when a monitored process or torque application fails or is missed. Automatic Vehicle Identification (aka VMS) Automatically provides vehicle and/or product information to assembly plant process and conveyance equipment. AVI works in conjunction with Broadcast to help ensure vehicles are properly built. Automatic Vehicle Identification Reads bar code labels attached to vehicle. Body-in-White Area of assembly plant where sheet metal is assembled. Big Book of Implementation Guidelines Chrysler AME supported standards ControlLogix family of Processors Allen Bradly's 32 bit family of PLCs. This family succeeds the PLC-5 family Basic Module Serial communication Module in the PLC-5 panel which receives information from AVI Readers. Direct Communication Module Communication Module in PLC-5 panel which sends and receives data from upper level AVI systems. Chrysler Technical Center Located in Auburn Hills as part of the HQ complex. Chrysler Corporation Stock symbol that is common interchangeable with official name. Data Highway Plus A proprietary LAN used to interconnect PLC's. Deterministic but max speeds are at 57.6k The amount of elapsed time in minutes between the time the equipment stops and resumes functioning that is caused by a malfunction. Dedicated Work Station A 3270 terminal with keyboard. Provides connection to corporate Mainframe based ITM systems. Used by PFS, Broadcast, TMS, VOP and Material applications. The physical layer (wires, connectors) of a Ethernet LAN A device that provides security between different networks. Typically this device is used at plants to provide security between office automation (OA) and plant automation (PA) LANs. Owner: APICS Page 4 of 7 Revision: 1.1
5 FIS FIS MARQUEE FTC Gateway GLS GUI HMI I/O ITM IWS JIT LAN Mainframe MLS Network HUB OEM Factory Information System Monitors and gathers data automatically from equipment throughout a manufacturing/assembly plant in a real-time manner. Provides equipment status, faults, alarms and cycle times and displays the information on PC based workstations, scrolling displays and pagers. Provides historical log/reports by shift. Displays messages from FIS and is usually a truss hung on the plant floor for best production viewing. Displays include cable or RF operated systems. RF device messages are sent through the plant paging system. First Time Capability The ability to build a product or perform an operation without issues on the first attempt. A bridge that connects networks with different protocols. Gate Line Sequence Build sequence typically used in body shop. Graphical User Interface Ability of a terminal to provide graphical information. Supported by any IWS or HMI. Human Machine Interface Operator interfaces to plant floor equipment such as PC's and panelviews. Input/Output Typically refers to control level input and output devices such as switches and solenoids. Information Technology Management Information Systems Division of Chrysler Intelligent Workstation A PC connection to plant office automation network. Provides access to most applications, word processing, spreadsheets, notes, PFS, FIS, and TMS. Just In Time Production theory to keep inventory levels at bare minimum. Reduces waste and storage area. Local Area Network A local area network used to interconnect a small number intelligent devices. Large computer designed to handle a large collection of devices and applications. Manual Line Stop A QAS feature that utilizes Manual pull cords to stop the line. Electronics cabinet on plant floor or office area. Main network cables from servers connects here. Floor devices, PC's and terminal/printer cables run from job to floor location. Original Equipment Manufacture Also referred to integrator/vendors of hardware / systems installations in the plants Owner: APICS Page 5 of 7 Revision: 1.1
6 PC PFCS PFS PLC PLC-5 Personal Computer Plant Floor Communication System Handles communication from the Plant Floor Devices to the Main Frame applications. (PFS, Broadcast). Performance Feedback System Categorizes and classifies all vehicle build problems and discrepancies (Test Results) for easy analysis. Computes First Time Capability (FTC) by plant, area, department, zone and corporate FTC. Prevents vehicles from being shipped until all discrepancies have been bought off by authorized personnel. It is an integral requirement of Torque Monitoring, Automatic Line Stop, and Process Control Devices. Programmable Logic Controller Used to control and manage plant conveyors and processes. The PLC is typically connected to I/O devices using RIO, local DH+ cabling to programming workstations (PWS), and the plant automation Ethernet network system for ITM systems. PLC-5 family of Processors Allen Bradley's family of processor. Use RSLogix 5 as the programming environment. It is the predecessor to the ControlLogix family of processors PM PV PWS QAS QAS ENCODERS QAS REMOTE I/O PANELS RDC RIO Router Preventative Maintenance PanelView Plant floor PLC operator terminal (1400E, 1000E and PanelViewPlus) used for AVI manual no read entry and local AVI status monitoring. Programming Work Station A PC with hardware and software that supports programming of PLC devices. Quality Alert System Monitors precise vehicle location in order to provide automatic line stop (ALS) and terminal vehicle sequencing (VS) functions. The system also provides manual line stop (MLS) capability and visual alerts. Counting I/O device used to determine precise location of product carriers. Remote PLC I/O panels that receive and send information from station devices. Regional Data Center Centers that house mainframe computers and support personnel. Remote Input and Output Proprietary PLC control network used connect I/O devices to the PLC processor. A bridge that acts as a switching hub for messages from many networks that use the same protocol. Owner: APICS Page 6 of 7 Revision: 1.1
7 RUMBA SPC SPD SQM Status TCF TCP/IP TELEX Printer TMS Torque Monitor TSN USP VIN VMS VOP VS WAN WCC Communications software to access mainframe applications from an IWS. Statistical Process Control Sequenced Parts Delivery Parts arriving from suppliers in the proper order. Station Quality Manager Third generation of QAS. Renamed to better reflect its functionality. A Broadcast reporting location Typical status points in an assembly plant are: E = Frame, F = Paint, G = Trim, Chassis, Final (Assembly), I = Build, rolls test, and alignment, J = Build/OK, KZ = Shipped. Trim Chassis Final Area of assembly plant where final vehicle assembly occurs. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol A protocol used to exchange information over Ethernet. Impacted printer (dot matrix) large (green and white) pin feed paper used for reports and printouts from PFS, Receiving, and Broadcast Systems. Total Maintenance System Monitors and/or controls electric/air tools. Data from individual tool spindle run downs is sent up to ITM systems for historical data and quality control. Trim Sequence Number Build sequence typically used in TCF. Unified Systems Platform A collection of software tools that improves ITM rediness of plant floor equipment. It consists of Unified Systems Driver (USD), Unified Systems Configurator (USC) and Unified Systems Emulator (USE). Vehicle Identification Number Vehicle Management System Original AVI system name. Currently provides the same AVI functions. Vehicle Order Processing Vehicle Sequencing A QAS function that provides automatic terminal sequencing to vehicle in station. Wide Area Network Collection of geographically separated networks that are interconnected. Workcell Controller A computer designed to service a small local number of devices and applications.
