Itron s New 100G Gas ERT Module Janet Penz Sr. Product Manager, Gas EndPoint Strategy
100G Gas ERT Module Launched at AGA in April with more than 150K shipped to date Brings value to existing and new customers with increase in output power, providing Mobile customers with more efficient reads since RF signals can be heard from greater distance and no need to drive every street More cost effective migration to Fixed Network for customers interested in FN today or in the future $5 to $10 to migrate 100G to FN $30 to $50 to migrate 40GB to FN 100G sold at a premium over legacy 40GB Gas ERT Modules Itron will continue to market 40GB as most cost effective endpoint for monthly mobile and handheld meter reading and is on track for another record year in shipments
100G ERT Module Benefits Maintains fundamental magnet and reed switch design from legacy 40 series with % accuracy between index and ERT Offers programmable output power (+10 dbm to +24 dbm) to optimize read performance with battery life Can coexist with 21+ million legacy gas ERT modules Can be read by updated handheld, mobile and fixed network and provides for more cost effective migration to fixed network No need for FCC license to operate Do not need to wake-up ERT; 100G is bubble-up Improved housing design for ease of installation and RF performance Designed for 20 year battery life but battery replacement still optional Offers tilt tamper and magnetic tamper detection
Models currently available The following have been Product Authorized
100G American Residential For use with 75 to 630 CFH models P/N ERG increase in height for maximum antenna performance Improved gasket from cork to santoprene Improved drainage while minimizing opportunity for ants & insects to enter ERT
Installing 100G on American Meter 100G is easier to install due to modified wriggler For 1 drive meters (pictured left) no longer need to place drive from meter into hole on ERT wriggler For 2 drive meters (pictured right) no longer need to place pin from ERT wriggler into slot on meter Both positive and non positive engagement now acceptable on 100G
100G Sensus/Rockwell Residential For use with 100 to 415 CFH meters P/N ERG tooth meters P/N ERG tooth meters (415) 1 increase in height for maximum antenna performance Improved gasket from cork to santoprene Improved drainage while minimizing opportunity for ants & insects to enter ERT
Installing 100G on Sensus/Rockwell Meter 100G is easier to install due to modified tapered wriggler No longer need to start right top screw and rotate ERT down for proper engagement with teeth on meter Now match bolt hole pattern on ERT with bolt hole pattern on meter
100G Actaris/Schlumberger/Sprague Residential For use with 175 to 400 CFH meters P/N ERG About 3/4 increase in height for maximum antenna performance Uses traditional Sprague 1A adapter kit for retrofit to old Sprague 1A meters p/n CFG Improved gasket from cork to santoprene Improved drainage while minimizing opportunity for ants & insects to enter ERT
Product Authorization of Additional 100G Models Will be compatible with all meters on 40GB compatibility list American/Actaris Commercial Late Nov 07 Same footprint as 40GB Commercial National Meter Residential Early Dec 07 Index cover will cover large barcode label and will have brass knurls for easier index attachment Sensus/Rockwell Commercial Late Dec 07 Same footprint as 40GB Commercial Remotes Jan/Feb 08
Approved Reading Devices for 100G Programming Device FC200SR using Endpoint-Link and Endpoint-Link Pro v5.1 or higher Allows programming of 100G, 40GB and other ERTs Mobile Collector version 2.6 or higher with Premierplus4 v3.2 or higher MV-RS v7.7 or higher 100G is ERT Type 12 (40G & 40GB are ERT Type 02) and requires one time setup in mobile RF translation table Type 12 is automatic in MV-RS v7.8.5 Integrator v6.0 or higher Field Collection System (FCS) v1.6 or higher Mobile Collector Lite with MV-RS v7.8.5 or higher 8 channel repeaters for use with Mobile Collector and Mobile Collector Lite
Approved Reading Devices for 100G Fixed Network 2.0 Cell Control Unit (CCU) channel repeaters CCU Meter Reading Application software or higher Fixed Network Application software v2.2.3 or higher Billing Gateway software v2.0.8 or higher FC200SR Handheld with MV-RS v7.8.6 or higher Field Collection System (FCS) v1.6 or higher G5SR to Product Authorize by Q2 2008
100G Programming Modes Fixed Network Mode +24 dbm (250 milliwatts) with 60 second bubble-up rate for reduced infrastructure costs for Fixed Network 20 year battery life Mobile/Handheld Mode +10 dbm (10 milliwatts) with 15 second bubble-up rate for improved performance Up to 30% reading efficiency for rural/suburban areas Up to 25% reading efficiency for urban areas Up to 15% reading efficiency for indoor meters 20 year battery life Hard to Read Mobile/Handheld Mode +24 dbm (250 milliwatts) with 30 second bubble-up rate Reduces battery life from 20 to 15 years Believe every existing customer can benefit for spot deployment
100G Mobile Reads in FN Mode
Why SR is needed in Handheld 100G operates under FCC for high power and have to hop over 50 channels DCU is only 48 channels 40 Series ERTs operate under FCC for low power and do not have to hop around Itron has always used frequency hopping spread spectrum for better performance Raptor radio is 7 MHz wide and can decode one message at a time If in process of decoding one message it won t hear another one SR radio is 16 MHz wide so can hear ERTs from MHz and can decode 80 channels simultaneously SR receiver is 3-4 db more sensitive than Raptor Will read from further away So for performance reasons, Itron only approves SR handhelds for reading 100G
Factory Ship Mode In Factory Ship Mode, the endpoints receiver turns on every 4 seconds for a brief period to look for a command. The endpoint is not transmitting while in factory ship mode. Endpoint leaves the factory in this mode (unless pre-programmed) Allows quick access for programming Programming session takes place at 908 MHz Can not be placed back into this mode
Audit Mode Intermixed with normal transmissions, the endpoint will transmit a 1 mw message every 4 seconds, turning on the receiver 1 second after each transmission For 30 days, following programming from factory or normal mode For 1 hour, following a Check Endpoint operation For 1 hour, following programming from audit mode that was induced by a Check Endpoint Allows quicker access for Checking after Programming (e.g. audits) Allows quicker access for reprogramming (programmed incorrectly) When Audit Mode expires, 100G is in mode it was programmed to
Programming & Reading with FC200SR During initial programming the FC200SR should be held approximately 1 from the 100G During re-programming or check read on 100G in normal mode, the FC200SR should be held approximately 4-5 from the endpoint When performing a re-program or a check (e.g. audit) on 100G in audit mode, the FC200SR should be held approximately 1 from the endpoint. Keep the FC200SR s antenna as vertical as possible From a distance standpoint this solution is more forgiving than a 40GB/R1Pro
