Ignite Tolerance Liberty Link varieties Two gene resistance to glufosinate from bar and pat genes which were first isolated from two species of Streptomyces bacteria.
Ignite Tolerance Varieties designated as Single gene tolerance to glufosinate from pat gene pat gene is used as a selectable marker for the cry1f and cry1ac genes
PAT Gene? Phosphinothricin-N-acetyltransferase (PAT) is an enzyme isolated from the common soil bacteria Streptomyces v. pat imparts transgenic plants with tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate-ammonium and facilitates the selection of plants containing cry1f and cry1ac. Glufosinate-ammonium was developed from the same bacteria and causes ammonia to build up plant tissues. Excess ammonia disrupts cell membranes and stops photosynthesis eventually killing plants. pat is the antidote to glufosinate-ammonium, allowing the plant to detoxify the herbicide
Ignite Tolerance Varieties designated as EPA has ruled that it is a legal application.
Disclaimer Any liability associated with Ignite applications to WideStrike cotton varieties is solely that of the user. PhytoGen and Dow AgroSciences do not recommend or warrant the use of glufosinate ammonium herbicides on WideStrike cotton. Bayer CropScience does not recommend or warrant the use of glufosinate ammonium herbicides on WideStrike cotton. All risk of crop damage and loss associated with the use of glufosinate ammonium herbicides on WideStrike cotton remains solely with the user.
Literature Weed Management with Glyphosate- and Glufosinatebased Systems in PHY 485 Cotton. J. R. Whitaker, A. C. York, D. L. Jordan, A. S. Culpepper. (Accepted for publication on 10/1/2010) Glufosinate caused minor and transient injury to the crop, but no differences in cotton yield or fiber quality were noted.

Disclaimer This presentation is not a recommendation to apply Ignite to WideStrike cotton varieties. Many applications in this presentation were above label rates, always check current labels for use directions. The University of Arkansas, University of Georgia, Mississippi State University and the University of Tennessee do not warrant the use of glufosinate ammonium herbicides on WideStrike cotton. Be willing to accept crop injury risks from applications of glufosinate ammonium herbicides to WideStrike cotton.
