General Overview The Insight display is a universal monitor/controller for crop production that is GPS compatible. It can be transferred from a combine to a tractor or other vehicles easily. In the combine it functions as a yield monitor and accurately measures and records acres, moisture, grain weight, bushels, and yield on-the-go. In the tractor or sprayer it connects to a planter or sprayer controller and monitors and controls the application rate. The Insight display also can record data for field boundaries, tile lines or where a hybrid is planted. The Insight has its own internal memory for recording all information, including GPS data. Insight s internal memory differs from Ag Leader s other traditional systems in that no card is necessary to record GPS information. Information can be logged internally and stored until transferred via a Compact Flash (CF) card. A CF card has been provided to transfer data to and from the Insight display. The Insight must be setup and properly calibrated to record accurate information. Ruggedized, Fully Sealed Enclosure The Insight display has been built to with stand the harsh environments associated with today s agricultural industry. The Insight s weather tight enclosure is designed to seal out dirt and moisture that can be expected during normal operating conditions. Note: The card door slot must be fully closed for the Insight display to remain weather tight. Color Touch Screen The Insight display features a 10.4 inch color touch screen display. The touch screen allows easy and intuitive navigation through the display by keeping the operator interface directly in front of you. The touch screen requires only a gentle touch to operate however the press must be held for about a half second. Although this may not seem like a long time, a common mistake is to go to fast through the display and not press the buttons long enough. This usually leads to a firmer button press, which is not necessary, as opposed to a longer button press, which is correct. Controller Area Network (CAN) Technology The Insight System uses Controller Area Network (CAN) technology. CAN technology is prevalent in most agricultural equipment today such as combines, tractors and implements. CAN has many benefits including greater expandability, compatibility, dependability, cleaner installs, and easier operation. The Insight display is not compatible with previous Ag Leader Yield Monitor Systems and new cabling and sensors must be used in conjunction with the Insight display. Contact your local Ag Leader dealer or contact Ag Leader directly for more information. Help Button Throughout the Insight display onscreen help is available by press the help button. If specific questions arise or help is needed while setting up the monitor please refer to this button. Quick reference cards are also available from Ag Leader s web site to assist with Insight setup and operation. Installation Your Insight display comes with a U-bracket standard for installation. Additional hardware options such as RAM mounts are also available. Installation instructions for combines are included with the Yield Monitor Kit from Ag Leader. Installations on other equipment such as tractors, ATVs, commercial applicators, or other vehicles are up to the operator s discretion.

Hardware Overview Compact Flash Card Slot Speaker Power/Reset Switch 28-Pin Connector Compact Flash Card Slot The compact flash card slot has a built in sensor that allows the display to know when the door is open or closed. If the door is open and a card is in the display a warning will appear on the screen before the card can be removed. The Insight display comes with an industrial grade compact flash card. Maximum card size that is recommended is 256mb. The compact flash card will be required to transfer files from the Insight to the mapping software. Speaker The Insight has a built in speaker for audible warning purposes. The speaker volume can be adjusted in the setup and console button. Power/Reset Switch The switch on the back of the Insight display is used for manual operation of power. In many instances, the Insight display is hooked up to switched power which will turn the unit on and off with the ignition key. In situations where switch power is not available, the push button switch can be used to turn the unit on and off. If the power switch is used to shut the monitor down listen for one click of the button and release, the monitor will power down. If the Insight display should ever stop responding, the manual power switch may be held for five seconds, which will restart your display. Only use this feature as a last resort as data loss could occur during times of improper shutdown. 28 Pin Connector The Insight display has one 28-pin round connector for all input and output of information. Within the 28-pin connector is a CAN Bus port and also an RS232 serial port. The CAN Bus port is used to connect to sensors such as yield monitoring equipment, application controllers, flow meters and CAN compatible GPS receivers. The RS232 serial port, which is available through the 9-pin connector on one end of the display cable, is typically used to connect GPS receivers using serial communication. Most agricultural GPS receivers available on the market interface with this connection. Additional cabling may be necessary to make non-ag Leader GPS receivers compatible with the Insight display. 13 Harvest Setup This section will cover necessary settings, setup and calibration for harvest. Creating a Harvest Configuration must be completed to display the harvest run screen. Help Button Configuration A Configuration is a complete setup of a combine along with the appropriate header. Multiple headers will require another pass through the Configuration Wizard to add. Additional configurations are added by pressing the ADD button from the Configuration tab. If specific help is needed while setting up a configuration please refer to the built-in help in the display. Combine The Combine tab shows a list of all the combines that are programmed into the display, typically there will only be one combine in the list. Combine settings, map delays, distance calibration and GPS antenna position can all be set under this tab. It is recommend to add the Combine from the Configuration Wizard on the Configuration tab. Header The Header tab displays a list of all the headers that are configured in the display. Multiple headers will require a separate configuration. The area on/off calibration will be performed under this tab for each individual head. The header height is then displayed as a percent of the total range of available motion. (0% is all the way down. 100% is all the way up) It is recommend to add the Header from the Configuration Wizard on the Configuration tab. Crops The Crop tab provides the ability to customize what crops (grain types) are harvested in the field. The Crop Wizard will allow you to add the crops that you will harvest and associate planted hybrids or varieties with each crop. If hybrids or varieties were created in the display during an Application or Site Verification operation, then the hybrids or varieties will carry over to harvest. Calibration The Calibration tab is where Weight, Moisture, Temperature, and Vibration are calibrated. The Weight calibration loads will appear on this screen if they were flagged as calibration loads when the Region was created. If a calibration load was not flagged, it can still be entered using the Add Load button. For more detailed help about calibrating procedures please refer to the built-in help.

Harvest Setup and Calibration For additional calibration instructions please refer to the onscreen help button. Calibrating Distance You must accurately measure a known distance, setting flags or making a mark at each end of the path. Use at least a 200 feet travel path to obtain an accurate calibration. For maximum accuracy, calibrate on a ground surface that is similar to field conditions. If using GPS as the primary speed sensor it is still recommend to calibrate the wheel speed sensor. Calibrating Temperature The moisture sensor contains a temperature sensor, which measures the grain temperature for use in adjusting the measured grain moisture. You must have the moisture sensor installed in the combine before you can calibrate temperature. For accurate moisture readings, it is more important that you not change the temperature calibration while harvesting. The temperature reading does not have to be exactly right for correct moisture readings. Therefore, after you calibrate temperature, leave it at that setting. Calibrating for Vibration The Insight must be calibrated to eliminate false grain flow readings that are caused by vibration forces when the combine runs empty. You should have the head that you will use to harvest the grain on the combine before you perform a vibration calibration for any grain. Calibrating Stop Height The stop height is the height at which the head must be raised at the end of a pass to shut off area counting. The stop height number is a reference number for the display to determine the height of the head. The reading is a percentage reading of how high or low the head is at its current position. The stop height number must be set for each grain type. Calibrating Moisture You must calibrate the display for grain moisture, for each grain type before the monitor can accurately measure grain moisture. Make sure the temperature has been properly calibrated before calibrating moisture. You do not have to calibrate for grain moisture at the beginning of the season to get accurate results, although it is recommended. Once calibrated, the display will automatically correct all grain moistures for all the loads that were previously harvested of that grain. To calibrate moisture, you must obtain the actual moisture for one specific monitor region of the grain you want to calibrate. Ideally, a moisture calibration region should be one, to two combine hoppers in size where the grain varies little in moisture content. Insight Getting Started Guide 15

Harvest Setup and Calibration Calibrating Grain Weight Calibrate the moisture before calibrating grain weight. Refer to the instructions in this section for moisture calibration. You must calibrate the display for grain weight (lbs) for each grain type before the monitor will accurately measure bushels. You should be able to calibrate the Insight for grain weight to an average error of 1% to 3 % IMPORTANT: Before calibrating, you MUST check the clearance between the tip of the clean grain elevator paddles and the inside of the elevator housing at the top of the clean grain elevator. There must be 1/2 inch or less clearance as the paddle rotates around the top sprocket. You do not have to calibrate grain weight at the beginning of the season to get accurate results, although it is recommended. After calibrating the monitor it will automatically correct the grain weights. Because the display measures the weight, not the volume, of the grain hitting the flow sensor, test weight and different varieties should not cause calibration inaccuracies. Harvesting Calibration Loads The display calibrates on the basis of actual load weights you enter into the display. You obtain actual load weights by weighing the grain of a load in the monitor on accurate scales (elevator, calibrated weigh wagon). To vary the grain flow rate you should either vary the travel speed or swath width for each calibration load. IMPORTANT: For accurate calibration results, you must obtain at least four to six calibration loads (loads with actual weights) of grain. Each calibration load must be harvested under a different grain flow rate by varying your travel speed or your swath width.

Site Verification Setup Site Verification is the mode for general logging purposes. (Ex. tile lines, hybrids or varieties) An implement switch is available for use with the Insight display to signal when the implement is in the up or down position. This will be a trigger for the display to start logging data or stop logging data. If an implement switch isn t present, the area count switch on the run screen can be used to turn logging on and off. Help Button Configuration A configuration is a complete setup of a Vehicle and Implement. It is highly recommended that when a new Vehicle or Implement needs to be added that you begin from the Configuration Wizard from the configuration screen. Additional configurations are added by pressing the Add button from the configuration tab. For details on creating a Site Verification Configuration, please refer to built-in help in the display. Vehicle Vehicle information and settings can be accessed under the Vehicle tab. Additional vehicles can be added or removed under the vehicle tab, but if you need to create a complete configuration, it is recommend to add the Vehicle from the Configuration Wizard on the Configuration tab. Implement Implement information and settings can be accessed under the Implement tab. Examples of implements could be planters, sprayers and toolbars. Additional implements for Site Verification can be added or removed under this tab, but if a complete Configuration is required, it is recommend to add the Implement from the Configuration Wizard on the Configuration tab. Product Add all Products that will be applied from the Product tab. Product types include, seeds, herbicides, fertilizers, insecticides, etc. Product information is displayed on the right for the highlighted item in the list. The products that you set up will be available for selecting on the RUN screen. Note: Hybrids/Varieties will carry over to harvest for variety tracking at harvest time.
