3 1. Preface The Intellio System Architecture consists of three components. Intellio Server Intellio Client Intellio Camera Simple network architecture Intellio Server Intellio Camera Switch Intellio Client Intellio Server keeps alive connections with Intellio Cameras and with Intellio Clients. One server can handle more cameras and more clients.

Intellio Clients are able to connect to the server via LAN or via the internet. The server can handle more cameras and more clients. It contains two or more servers connected to each other via LAN. Intellio Site architecture provides the following features: Failsafe operation: if a server breaks down, the rest of the servers take over cameras Load balancing: if a server s load is much more than the rest of the server s the system equalizes the load among the servers Resource: more server means more resources so more cameras The Intellio Site architecture establishes the following connections: Servers connect to cameras Client connects to all servers Servers connect to each other Intellio Ltd. It contains all services of the site architecture plus more. A domain consists of two or more sites. The Intellio Domain architecture provides you the following features: You can manage all the resources of your surveillance system with a single client program. For example you can watch on the live feed or access to records and events. Global rights management: with a single login name you can access and modify all your sites and its resources. The Intellio Domain architecture establishes the following connections: Servers in the sites connect to cameras in the same site One of the servers (the master server) in a site connects to one of the servers of each sites Client connects to a site of the domain, after that the client can establish connections with the rest of the sites Intellio Ltd. 8 2. Features 2.1. Digital Video Recording Unlimited storage capacity Storage capacity of the system depends only on the hard drive capacity of the server computer. Increasing storage capacity of the system is simple by installing further hard drives to the server computer or installing multiple servers Unlimited frame per sec storage performance Frame per sec storage performance of the system depends only on the performance of the server computer. Increasing performance of the system is simple by upgrading the CPU and the hard drive of the server or by installing multiple servers Unlimited resolution Resolution of stored images in the system depends only on the resolution of the camera. Increasing the resolution of stored images in the system is simple by installing a higher resolution camera Unlimited camera number The system stores all frames from all cameras real time. There is no upper limit for the number of cameras. Maximum number of cameras depends only on the performance of the server computer and the bandwidth of the network. 11 Networking 2.6. Streaming Evolution of streaming, the Intellio Complex Streaming The following diagram shows the traditional IP surveillance system. In this architecture all of the servers and clients establish connections with the camera so it requires huge bandwidth and performance. All clients connect to the camera with the same bandwidth. The following picture describes Intellio Complex Streaming. In this case the camera establishes connection with the server and the clients connect to the server. The server also works as a video gateway, automatically recompressing the stream for all clients, so clients get the stream with the ideal bandwidth. 12 Building a sample installation The following diagram shows a typical surveillance system installation. Cameras are grouped into groups of seven. These cameras are connected to a 100MBit switch. Seven camera groups are connected to a 1000Mbit switch. So you need only three gigabit switch for the 196 cameras Reducing network bandwidth requirement Intellio managed to reduce network bandwidth demand to a minimum. This has been achieved by two special technologies built into the Intellio Video System: The network video systems use video streams to transmit video images continuously between the end points. In conventional systems one wide stream is being transmitted for storage and several additional streams for the client programs that are monitoring the cameras. The Intellio Camera is sending only one video stream to the server which is enough for the system to provide frames for recording the events and also for monitoring the live video Intellio Ltd. 13 In practice the camera itself provides motion detection for monitoring and storing separately. As a result, the sensitivity and the detection area of motion detection can be separately calibrated for monitoring and storing. After the camera has done the motion detection each frame gets an identity flag and the frame is being transmitted with this. Based on the identity flag the server decides on whether to store the frame or/and transmit it to a client. Optionally the server is capable to reduce the recording fps. If the client computer is connected to the server via LAN the original video stream is being transmitted. If the client program has a low bandwidth connection (e.g. remote connection), the server creates separated video streams according to the available bandwidth for each clients. The system has a bandwidth manager that enables to set the bandwidth limit of each client program. The other technology is the frame rate reduction. In case a frame doesn t contain motion or alarm event the camera sends images with a reduced fps (e.g 1 fps). In case of such events the camera reverts to sending images with the highest frame rate. For example by using this feature the camera can be programmed to send images only when someone is trespassing into a restricted area Intellio Ltd. Page 4
