1 About SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench - What Is SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench? - Benefits of Using SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench - How Does SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench Work? - Architecture 1.1 What Is SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench? SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench enables analysts to review the data generated about input documents. These users can see the sentiment expressed in a document, by product and feature, and the matching categories and concepts for these documents. When you choose to use SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench, you can analyze each document, create graphs, and generate reports. You can also search the documents to obtain the information that you are seeking. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench combines several key technologies to provide a comprehensive solution to data analysis:
Workbench SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench enables you to build a custom project that deploys files from SAS Content Categorization Studio and SAS Sentiment Analysis Studio. A choice of tools choose to deploy any of several tools to obtain the information that you seek. Sentiment analysis identify the feelings expressed in input documents. You can analyze the expressed overall sentiment, or choose to isolate a product or a feature of the product. Categorization classify input documents according to the matches on category rules located within the text of these documents. Concepts extraction extract entities located in your documents and their relationships. For example, locate the names of cities and states. Reports create reports that include various types of charts. These charts can be pie charts, line plots, bar charts, or phrase clouds. Phrase clouds display the matching terms in a font size that represents matching term frequency by font size. In other words, the large the font size for the matched term the more frequently it occurs in the document. Intuitive user interface use the SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench user interface to create a custom project. 4 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide

3 Document Analyses - Why You Should Review the Automated Document Analyses for Your Documents - Displaying a Document - See the Automated Analyses - Editing the Automated Analysis - Enter Comments - Finalizing Changes 3.1 Why You Should Review the Automated Document Analyses for Your Documents Use the Sentiment Analysis, Categorization, Concept Extraction, and Prominence and Dominance panes to see the automated analyses for your input documents. After you review these analyses, you can edit them. These changes are then reflected in the graphs that form the reports that you generate in the Reports tab. Review the automated analyses for your input documents for some, or all, of the following purposes: - Select a term that appears in one of the hierarchies in the Document panes to see the matching terms highlighted in the input document. These matches enable you to see the exact words that are matched by the rule that defines the selected node. - You can deselect a check box in the Sentiment Analysis or Categorization panes to remove any unsatisfactory results. This operation also removes the terms that you want to disqualify from the graphs that you generate in the Reports pane. However, you can still see
the matching terms in your input documents if you select the term that defines the unchecked node. - Choose to redefine the overall sentiment of a document based on your expertise and considering the matching terms for the selected analyses. For example, you could select neutral in the drop-down menu to the right of Sentiment, if you determine that a blogger is expressing bias instead of expressing true sentiment. - Choose to type notes about the work that you have done into the Comments pane. You can also choose to mark a document as Finalized when you have completed the editing process. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench enables you to analyze all of these operations daily, as new sets of documents are uploaded to your project by the project administrator. The changes that you make, using the operations in this chapter, affect the individual document that you selected. These changes can also affect the reports and charts that you generate in the Reports pane. For more information about charts and reports, see Chapter 4: Creating Reports and Querying. Click Update and a SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench window appears stating that the update is successful. 3. Click OK. 4. (Optional) When you deselect a node and it is unchecked, you can continue to see the matching terms in the input text in the Document pane. To see these matches, select the term to the right of the check box. 50 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
3.4.4 Add a Sentiment or Categorization Node You can add a node from the uploaded sentiment or the categories project and apply it to the selected document, only. The following example uses sentiment, but you can use the same steps for categories. To add one, or more, nodes to the Categorization pane, complete these steps: 1. Click Add Node in the Categories pane and the Product Features window appears. 2. Select the node, or nodes, to add. For example, click Sony--Design-- Positive and Sony--Design--Negative. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 51
3. Click OK and these nodes are added to the Sentiment Analysis pane. Hint: In this case, the added nodes are grayed out because there are no matching terms in the document. 3.5 Enter Comments When you make changes, you can add notes to explain these edits and their purposes. To add notes to the Documents pane, complete these steps: 52 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
1. Click to open the Comments pane. 2. Type in your notes. 3. Click Update. 4. These notes are saved for any of the collaborators on this project who also review this document. 3.6 Finalizing Changes Whether you decide to make changes to the automated analyses in the Content Analysis pane, or you choose to leave the automated results, you can finalize your review. To finalize your review, select Finalized in the drop-down State menu. The Finalized setting indicates that a review has been conducted and that the results displayed are satisfactory. Hint: If you select Finalized, click the Show finalized only check box in the Create Chart window, or the Configuration tab of the Reports tab. In this case, the documents that are under review are not included in the results. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 53

4 Creating Reports and Querying - Overview of Creating Reports and Querying - Creating a Report - Exporting Results - Query the Documents 4.1 Overview of Creating Reports and Querying The reports feature of SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench enables you to generate a comprehensive, pictorial overview of document analyses based on the criteria that you specify. The graphs that form these reports illustrate the analyses of the input documents and any edits that you make. If you choose to graph only sentiment analysis, it is the overall sentiment expression for each document that you plot. On the other hand when you plot categories or features, with, or without sentiment analysis, the expressed sentiment for each category or feature is displayed. You can output your reports, like your graphs in.xml format. The queries feature of SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench is a filter that returns only the documents that match your specified terms. Queries work like searches in their most simplistic form. When you choose to specify criteria other than a search term, they delimit the documents that are used for a graph. Use the Reports tab with the queries filters to create one, or more, graphs. You can choose to graph one or two analyses into a pie, bar, or line plot. Note: The graphed sentiment represents the overall sentiment expression for each document. When you choose to export a report, all of the changes that you
made to the project in the Documents tab are also exported. 4.2 Creating a Report Before You Create a Report A Considering the Graph Variables Before you create a report, consider the types of graphs that you want to create and the information that you want to analyze. Some types of graphs work better for some types of assessments than others. For example: - Analyze sentiment over the time that the input documents were created using a line plot. - See the numbers representing the three types of overall sentiment as slices in a pie chart. - Compare negative and positive sentiment over time using a stacked line, or a stacked bar, chart. - Use a bar chart to graph the distribution of categories or features. 56 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
4.2.1.B Selecting a Graph There are different types of graphs that you can use to display the information in your reports: Pie Chart A pie chart is a circle that is divided into sections by radial lines. Each slice represents the relative contribution of each part to the whole. Display 4-1 Pie Chart Graphing Categories. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 57
When there are several sets of categorized documents that are too small to be considered a slice, these documents might be grouped together under Other. Click on the circumference of the pie to see the distribution of Other. Display 4-2 Pie Chart Distribution of Other Hint: Click on the circumference of any pie chart to see the analytics for its slices. 58 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
Line Plot A line plot shows the relationship of one variable to another, often as movements or trends over a period of time. Line graphs summarize source data and typically are used to chart response values against discrete categorical values. Display 4-3 Line Plot Graphing Features SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 59
Bar Chart A bar chart consists of a grid and some horizontal lines. Each bar represents quantitative data. Display 4-4 Bar Chart Graphing Categories 60 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
Stacked Bar Chart A stacked bar chart is like the bar chart. However, some bars have a second layer. Each section of the stack represents a set of quantitative data. Display 4-5 Stacked Bar Chart Graphing Sentiment over Time Stacked Line Plot A stacked line plot is like the line plot. The additional line represents a second layer of quantitative data. Display 4-6 Stacked Line Plot Graphing Sentiment across Categories SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 61
Phrase Cloud A phrase cloud is a collection of matching terms where the size of the font indicates the frequency of the occurrences for each of these terms. Display 4-7 Phrase Cloud To make changes to the phrase cloud, see Section Reports Tab on page C Changing Graph Views To see another view of the line plot, or any other chart, place your cursor on the blue bar that appears below the chart. (Click on the lower right corner of the white chart pane if you do not see this bar.) Pull the bar to the right to see fewer features. Stretch the bar to the left to see more, or all, of the features. 62 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
Figure 4-1 Sliding the Expansion - Contraction Bar D Selecting One or Two Analysis Types Together the charts that you specify, form a report. This report provides visual displays of the analysis results for a set of documents. The Documents pane provides a complete set of analyses for one document and enables you to edit these analyses. The Reports pane enables you to generate one or two analysis types across a set of documents. Use the following analyses to create your charts: Sentiment Track the positive or negative expressions for a product or an object. Categories See how many documents matched the categories in your project. Features See the number of documents for each matched feature with its sentiment. Each feature is sentiment-specific when it appears in a graph. Created time Choose to plot one of the above analyses over time. The date that the document was created is used for this purpose. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 63
4.2.1.E The Differences between Filtering and Graphing Filtering is defined as the criteria that restrict the data that is displayed in a graph. The selections that you make under the Specify a query using these parameters section of the Create Chart window or Configuration pane filter your documents. The filter, like a search operation that uses a keyword, might limit the number of documents used to extract all of the categories, features, or sentiment. To see how the filtering and graphing selections work together for features (and categories), complete these steps: 1. Click Create Chart and the Create Chart window appears. 2. Type in the name of the new graph into the Chart Name field. For example, enter PriceNegative. 3. Select features for Axis X. 4. Leave the default selection All for Sentiment. 5. Leave the default selection All for Directory. 64 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
6. Click to the right of the Features field. 7. The Product Features window appears where you can select to select the features that you want to use as a filter. 8. Select each check box that has the feature that you want to use as a filter. For example, select Sony--Price--Negative. 9. Click OK. 10. Click OK in the Create Chart window. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 65
11. Select Documents to see the documents that have this feature. 12. (Optional) Click the blue links to each document. The text of the document appears in the Documents pane where you can see its complete analysis. 13. Click Chart to see the graph of these results. Although all but two features were filtered, all of the features for the filtered documents are displayed. 66 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
Note: When you filter for sentiment and select sentiment for Axis X, only the filtered sentiment is displayed. In this case, sentiment analysis is performed only on the overall sentiment for each document Add a Report After you consider the types of graphs that you want to create, you can begin developing your report. A report in SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench is simply a collection of graphs that illustrate the analyses performed on document collections. To create a report, complete these steps: 1. Select the Reports tab. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 67
2. Right-click in the pane below Reports and select New Report from the menu that appears. The New Report window appears. 3. Type the name of the new report into the Name field. For example, enter ReportOne. 4. Click OK and the new report appears in the Reports pane Create a Graph You can specify parameters to make one, or several, charts in your report. Note: If you are unable to create a graph for any reason, select File --> Project List to reload the project. 68 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
To create a graph, complete these steps: 1. Select a report in the Reports pane. 2. Click Create Chart and the Create Chart window appears. 3. Type the name of your graph into the Chart Name field. For example, enter SentimentOverTime. 4. Leave the default Sentiment selection All. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 69
5. Leave the default Directory selection All. 6. Click and select Stacked Bar Chart in the Chart Type menu. 7. Click the Axis X check box to the left of createtime. 8. Click the Axis Y check box to the left of sentiment. 9. Click and select month from the menu located to the right of createtime. 10. Click OK. 11. Select the Chart tab to see your graph. 70 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
4.2.4 Delete a Graph In most cases it is easier to reconfigure than to delete your graph. However, if you want to change the type or the name of your graph, or if you do not want to export a specific chart use the Delete Chart button. To delete a chart, complete these steps: 1. Select a graph in the display of charts. For example, select CategoriesDistribution. 2. Click Delete Chart and the Confirm Chart Delete window appears. 3. Click Yes. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 71
4.3 Exporting Results Export a Graph You can export a graph in.xml format in order to see its components. To export a graph, complete the following steps: 1. Select a graph and click Export Chart. For example, select FeatureDistribution. 2. A SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench status window appears. 72 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
3. Click Yes. The Select location for download by localhost appears. 4. Select a location to store the saved file in the Save in field. For example, choose Desktop. 5. Type the name of the report into the File name field. For example, enter FeatureDistribution.xml. 6. Click Save. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 73
7. Open the.xml file to see its contents Export a Report After you create all of the graphs for a report, you can export the report in.xml format. Use this file to see the contents of all of the graphs that comprise your report. To export a report, complete these steps: 1. Right-click on a report and select Export Report from the menu that appears. 74 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
The SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench window appears. 2. Click Yes and the Select location for download by localhost window appears. 3. See Step 3. through Step 6. on page Open the.xml file to see the contents of the graphs that define this report For example, open Report2.xml. SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide 75
4.4 Query the Documents Use the Queries tab to perform the following operations: - Search input documents for a matching word. You can see all of the documents that contain this word below the count of results. - Use the Search pane in the same way that you use a filter when you create graphs and see all matching documents. For more information, see Section E The Differences between Filtering and Graphing on page See the total count of all of the documents in the project, or a count for each set of documents that you select from the Directory menu. Figure 4-2 Queries Pane This pane is similar to the Reports tab, with one exception. Use the Search History pane to see a list of all of your query terms. 76 SAS Sentiment Analysis Workbench: User s Guide
To remove one of the search terms, complete these steps: 1. Select a search term in the Search History pane. 2. Click Remove and the Confirm Search Term Removal window appears. 3. Click Yes. To remove all of the search terms in the Search History pane, complete these steps: 1. Click Clear All and the Confirm Clear Search History window appears. 2. Click Yes.
