1 Layouts Overview The user can save the structure, location, and size of different frames as individual layouts. A layout is an interface component that enables the user to: Define the view of the workspace and create new frame sets (including Save As New based on existing layouts) Modify or adjust the view of the workspace Keep the necessary number of frame sets Save frame sets, either or by clicking the Save Layout button (so two modes are possible) Edit the names of layouts Reset the default layouts to their original state Delete layouts Split frames, either vertically or horizontally Remove frames The front end provides default layouts that contain a selection of frames and functionalities within those frames. The user can have up to seven layouts: two default and five of one's own. Switching among multiple user accounts does not change the current layout, but it does refresh the data controlled by the user account number, such as open positions, open orders, and so on. For the purposes of this document, click refers specifically to the left mouse button. The user does not use the right mouse button with layout functionality. Opening Layouts The user is not authorized to open more than one layout within per session. That is, a single layout is active for the duration of one session. The user can, however, reconfigure the current layout to suit one's preferences. When the user runs the front end for the first time, the default layout is displayed onscreen. For subsequent logins, the user sees the layout that one used last. If the user restarts the front end, the most recent layout is loaded. Access the layouts by clicking the Frames button in the menu bar (menu bar functionality is out of this scope). The corresponding dropdown shows all the available layouts, both 1
2 default and customized. Use this dropdown to add new layouts or rename, save, or delete existing layouts. Modifying Layouts Modifying a layout includes changing the work area, such as adding, removing, resizing, or relocating frames, as well as defining the sets of the tabs (as the content of frames). You can save your changes to tabs by saving the corresponding module, and you can hide or unhide the grid display from the corresponding module s Settings (Settings functionality is out of this scope). By checking the option, you can specify whether to save the layout, as you make changes. If you leave this option unchecked, the front end prompts you to save if you have modified the layout. The Save button becomes active as soon as any changes to the layout have been made. If you do not save the layout or confirm your changes, your modifications to the layout are not retained for future sessions. 2
3 Click the Reset icon to return to the presetted view of the default layouts. Adding New Layouts You can add additional layouts with different areas, including frames and content. These new layouts are added to the list. To create a new layout, click one of the Create new layout icons, or modify and save one of the existing layouts, as described previously. There are four layout options to start. After you select one, provide a name for the new layout (which has the inspiring name of New layout by default), and click the Create button. 3
4 The front end opens a blank layout according to the chosen frame set type. You can adjust the content of the information area to meet your current workspace requirements. The new layout is saved to the database. You can view it alongside the other layouts in the Frames dropdown. When you reach the maximum number of layouts, the Create new layout icons, along with the Create and Copy buttons, become disabled. Renaming Layouts To rename a layout, click the Modify icon of the desired layout. The Rename Layout window appears. The edit box in this window provides current layout name as the default option. Type the new name, and click the OK button to confirm. 4
5 The layout appears in the Frames dropdown under its new name. The maximum length of the layout name is 25 characters. Deleting Layouts To delete a custom layout (but not a default layout), click the Delete icon. This layout will no longer appear in the Frames menu. You are free to modify either of the two default layouts to suit your needs, but you can never delete these layouts. However, you can always modify a default layout and save it as a new one, provided that you have not yet reached the maximum number of layouts for your account. Frame Menu Commands The menu commands referring to the layout's frames are contained in a separate section of the Tab menus. These commands are described in the sections to follow. Split vertically The Split Vertically menu command splits the current frame in two by adding a new frame to the right; the two frames have the same size, and the total size is equal to the initial frame's size. This command is available only when there is enough space by width. 5
6 Split horizontally The Split Horizontally menu command splits the current frame in two by adding a new frame beneath it; the two frames have the same size, and the total size is equal to the initial frame's size. This command is available only when there is enough space by height. Remove frame The Remove Frame command deletes the current frame. The resulting free space is occupied by the neighboring frame of the same width or height. This feature is available only when there are at least two frames in the layout. 6
