Introduction The Freshman (hereafter known as the Provider) is pleased to submit a proposal for the web site development of the Romain College of Business (hereafter known as the Client). This proposal describes technological advancements, social impacts, statistical analysis, functionality, simplicity, and how it can help develop students lives. In the digital age, a web site will frequently serve as the front entrance into the University of Southern Indiana, but in this case the Romain College of Business. This is one of the most critical times to capture and sustain the correct crowd to allow flow to the website. Our mission is to present you a professional on-line presence that will generally enhance the Romain College of Business s image and branding, as well as move prosperous students into the university. When creating this website, we made sure to use our resources to the best advantage. During the conception of the webpage we came up with the idea to do a survey gathering data for ages This survey asked generic questions that guided us in how we created and developed our webpage. Over 170 people took this survey which allowed us copious amounts of statistical referencing. Page 1
Website Details In order to develop a successful and powerful website, our team initially broke down the project s core requirements / guidelines. When we distributed these requirements we brainstormed and used a systematic flow chart to help us determine the best possible outcome for the webpage. FIRST IMPRESSIONS In this subsection, we developed and broken down further sections. This section is going to be broken up in looks/ascetics, URL name, home page, clarity of selling point, and the ability to take action. On the following pages our ideas and concepts will be explained further and more detailed for clarity. NAVIGATION In this subsection, we distributed the requirements into how easy the website is to operate and use. CONTENT In this subsection, we developed seven different classifications that we focused on during the design and idea phase. The concepts that we focused on were how useful the information was, maintaining social values, exceeding business requirements, having a higher level of interaction, including visual aids or infographics, and making the sites accessible to everyone. INOVATION In this subsection, our team focused on three subsections that contain unique elements, variation of how things are implemented, and making sure the website is engaging. RESPOSIVNESS In this subsection our team is focusing on streamlining the code which will allow for a faster response time. COMPLETENESS The completeness of our website will be showcases in the prototype that we have created. We used different website tools to help us in developing the prototype, but it is all created by HTML coding language. Page 2
Website Background Research STATISTICAL ANALYSIS The way we were able to generate precise and accurate data for the Romain College of Business s webpage, was by conducting a survey. In this survey, we asked various questions that allowed us to make an analysis of what students at the University of Southern Indiana expected from a webpage. SURVEY QUESTIONS The figure to the right is the survey we sent to over 250 individuals. We received an overwhelming amount of support with over 170 people taking the survey which provided us with ample amount of information. On the following or concurring page we will go in depth with our findings from the surrey before we start explaining how our webpage was designed. Page 3
Website Background Research Continued SURVEY SUMMARY With the survey, we were able to gather statistical data from over 170 students. We used this data to determine how our website would formatted. In the concurring pages, we will break down each question asked on the survey so it is easier to interpret the results. In the figure above we asked how many hours a week students spend on the Internet. Out of the 170 individuals that took the survey, over 50% of them stated that they spent over 9 hours per week on the Internet. This question was the baseline question and was reliant on the concurring questions. In the next figure the question is asking how many hours per week do student spend on social media. When we reviewed, the data we were surprised to see that 43.9% of the students spend that amount of time on social media platforms. This means that only 3 hours are spent browsing the Internet. Based on this information our team made the first deciding factor. We determined since social media platforms are where most of a student s internet time is spent on, we would design the webpage like social media platforms. This helped us understand and create a better design flow based on student s preferences. In the next figure we asked what a student s first impression of a webpage is based upon. The students almost unanimously agreed that it needed to have a strong graphic design feature, as well as being functional to everyone. From these first three figures we were able to establish a strong identity for our webpage, but we wanted to do more background research. Page 4
In the next two questions we asked parallel systematic references to see if the student s mindset would vary. These bar graphs helped to determine the importance of different types of information/ technology that appeals to all students. With all of the data collected we were able to start building and designing a webpage that in theory would be the perfect website. We are going to implement all of the statistics that we have collected developmental phase of our webpage. Page 5
Comparison between Current and Potential Webpages These two images will be referenced throughout the first impression, ideas and concept breakdown. THE FRESHMAN WEBAGE DESIGN ROMAIN COLLEGE OF BUSINESS CURRENT WEB PAGE Page 6
First Impressions (Ideas and Concepts Breakdown) *All concepts will be listed in bullet point format or flow charts for better visual representation. LOOK AND FEEL Clean Cut o We are going to use a geometrical approach for a cleaner appearance. Golden Spiral o We are using a famous mathematical formula that will draw your eye to the website because it is close to the perfect geometrical shape. The golden spiral, or Fibonacci, sequence is adapted throughout the entire webpage for a more appealing visual representation. HOME PAGE Diamonds o As we noticed in the survey, students are more acquitted to use a social media platform before a webpage. We are going to design our homepage in a modern social media platform setup but for academics. As you can see below, there are different diamond shapes. Each shape will have an image according to the core subject that you can click on to obtain information via link. This is the same concept Instagram uses. Menu o The menu will operate like a normal menu bar, but it will be limited to three selections to allow easier webpage browsing. Contact Information o In the survey students requested a better way to obtain contact information for different competitions, events, and their professors. We are going to have a detailed page strictly for contact information that uses a search bar for easy navigation. Social Media o On the home page, we are going to link social media through a lie feed. This social media platform will let us bring college students excitement back to regular web pages. Call to action o Another core concept for the home page is having a login setting where mass notifications can be sent to the individuals signed up. These messages will be about anything from events to social gatherings. Page 7
Navigation/Content (Ideas and Concepts Breakdown) NAVIGATION Simplistic and easy approach. o In the survey, functionality and simplicity were two of the key factors student emphasized. To make sure that these factors are meet we are making sure that the website is simplistic for almost enough for any age group. There will be minimal button clicking or scrolling. All buttons will have visual representation (student survey request) o The buttons will take the individual directly to a subpage with all information that they need regarding the button selected. CONTENT Perceived Usefulness o All information of the webpage will be on the site for a specific reason. We plan on having a diamond for resumes, success stories, past/present/future students, competition, program descriptions, and any additional information requested by students. All information will be organized in a unique, geometrical approach that incorporates simplicity. Business Requirements o All information of the webpage will be professional. The page will be clean and sleek. The social media live feed will also be scanned by an HTML code to eliminate profanity or inappropriate messages. Social Values o On the website we plan on having many different social aspects ranging from live social media to private messaging. o Our goal for the webpage is to have a dynamic social status that will encourage students to get involved with the Romain College of Business. Some social elements that are under consideration are weekly competition posts about events happening on campus or in society. If the individual that posted the material has the best post they will be featured on the homepage. Level of useful information o Ideas for useful information that were not discussed in perceived usefulness are calendars with dates and times of events, and educational forms from student s perspective. Educational forms is a section on the webpage that upcoming seniors post so younger students can understand how they were able to succeed in their major. It can also be used for resume building, professor s classroom settings, and blog posts. Values of visuals o Our website is designed off of the survey, in which the students voted for a high level of visual aids that include; live feed social media platforms, videos, google maps, online PowerPoints, and interactive learning tools. Page 8
Innovative/Response Time/ Completeness (Ideas and Concepts Breakdown) UNIQUE ELEMENTS In our design we have many unique elements ranging from the diamond effect to the live feed social media platforms. The layout of our website is also unique because it is not the traditional format of a website for a College of Business. o The uniqueness of the format will draw more students in to explore the different aspects. We have also revised the typical aspect of an educational website. In most scenarios these websites are designed in a bland format that is not interactive, but the webpage that we designed has a complete 180 degree spin. RESPONSE TIME The webpage is designed to streamline the HTML code. Since the code is streamlined the website has a higher operating rate which allows it to be faster and more efficient. The HTML source code has been narrowed down to only 343 lines of code. COMPLETENESS The website that we have designed is complete regarding the background research, content, thoroughness, and execution. This website is ready to be taken to the next leave with a small leavel of work. Page 9
Conclusion The freshman (Provider) is pleased to submit a proposal for the web site development of the Romain College of Business (Client). This proposal described technological advancements, social impacts, statistical analysis, functionality, simplicity, and how it can help develop students lives. This webpage was designed with statistics and background research in mind which helped us propel into the design/ prototyping phases. This website has been carefully chiseled to create a masterpiece that draws students. Our team believes that this website is the future of the Romain College of Business. Page 10
