12 Managing Pages Create a new page 1. From the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Pages 2. Click Add New 3. Add a page title and select a parent page if relevant 4. Click on Publish 5. Click Edit with Visual Composer 6. Select a Theme Defined Layout as the starting template 7. Modify the page layout and content 8. Click the Check Mark (Publish) icon in the bottom right to save Edit an existing page 1. From the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Pages 2. Click All Pages 3. Hover over an existing page and click Edit or Edit with Visual Composer Delete a page 1. From the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Pages 2. Click All Pages 3. Hover over an existing page and click Trash Edit the site s menu 1. From the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Appearance 2. Click Menus 3. Select a menu to edit from the drop-down 4. Click Select 5. Add, reorder or delete any applicable items

13 6. Click Save Menu when finished *PLEASE NOTE: The first menu created on every subsite that is assigned to the Primary Display Location will be replaced with the Global Main Menu. To edit this, you must be editing the The Michigan Area United Methodist Church site. Managing News Posts (includes Classifieds, Appointments and Obituaries) Create a new post 1. From the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Posts 2. Click Add New 3. Add a page title and content 4. Add a featured image (recommended size 960x640) 5. On the right-side Categories pane, check the appropriate category 6. Click on Publish when finished Edit or delete an existing post 1. From the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Posts 2. Click All Posts 3. Hover over an existing post and click Edit or Delete Plugin & WordPress Core Updates It is important to keep WordPress core files and WordPress plugin files up-to-date for optimal security and functionality. However, it is important to create a backup before running updates, as these changes can sometimes create issues with the site. 1. Create a backup of the site files and database (recommended method is to use the tools available in Cpanel contact your hosting provider if questions)

14 2. From the top menu bar, hover over My Sites and then Network Admin 3. From the WordPress Dashboard menu, click Updates 4. If updates are available: a. Click Update Now to update WordPress b. Click Select All and then Update Plugins to update the site s plugins 5. Review the site to ensure it is functioning properly after updating Security Security can be managed using the plugin called All in One WP Security. Please note that settings for this plugin must be modified for each subsite in the network. To manage the plugin s settings, click WP Security from the WordPress Dashboard Please note that improperly configured settings can lock an administrator out of the website, so always make a backup before modifying these settings
