5 1 Validation Examination Common Issues During the Surpass (SecureClient) Validation Examination, if you clicked No to any of the multiple choice questions you will be asked to refer to a Validation Examination Common Issue. Refer to the items below for any areas identified on the Validation Examination that need to be addressed.

7 3 1 Primary Language on your laptop In order to determine your primary language, perform the following steps: 1. From your desktop, click the Windows icon and then click the Options icon.
8 4 Validation Examination Common Issues The Windows Settings screen appears.
9 issue 1 Primary Language on your laptop 5 2. From the Windows Settings screen, click Time & Language. The Date & time screen appears.
10 6 Validation Examination Common Issues 3. Click Regions & language. This will bring up the Region & language screen.
11 issue 2 Excel Formulas 7 2 Excel Formulas There are a number of reasons why a formula may fail during the Validation Examination. The most common cause of formula errors occurs when the cell is formatted as Text, which causes Excel to ignore any formulas. To resolve this issue, change the format of the cell(s) to General or another format setting. You can also access the help function within Excel by performing the following steps: 1. From the navigation bar, click Tell me what you want to do. 2. In the field, type Help with Formulas and click Get Help.
12 8 Validation Examination Common Issues If this does not resolve your issue, submit a help ticket through the Support Web Portal. You are required to include your CPA Canada Candidate ID (I.e. seven-digit number that begins with 4) when submitting a ticket.
13 issue 3 Excel Autosum 9 3 Excel Autosum The two most common issues with the Excel autosum function failing are: 1. There are blank/white spaces before or after the number in the cell. Generally, this can occur when you copy/paste a number from one area to another. To resolve this, please make sure that all whitespaces have been removed (either manually or by using the Find/Replace tool). 2. The cell has been converted to a date format while the rest of the cells have not. To resolve this, highlight the range of cells to be Autosummed, and change the format to general numbers (or the appropriate format). If neither of these situations is applicable to you, access the help fuction in Excel for further information.

15 issue 4 Uploading Files 11 4 Uploading Files Once an answer for Word or Excel has been completed, perform the following steps: 1. In SecureClient, click Next. The File Attachments Summary screen appears.
16 12 Validation Examination Common Issues 2. Click Continue to upload the docx file. You will then be prompted to upload the xlsx file. click Continue to do this as well. Note: You will only be prompted to upload a file the first time you move away from a question. After that any changes to the word or excel file will automatically upload.
17 CHAPTER 7 Profession Assessments 13 If you have not opened Word or Excel, you will see the following message: If you experience issues with attaching files, submit a ticket through the Support Web Portal. You are required to include your CPA Canada Candidate ID (I.e. seven-digit number that begins with 4) when submitting a ticket.

19 Chapter 6 CPA Mentor Reviews 15 5 Excel Formatting If any formatting tools in Excel are not available to you during the examination (the icons are grayed out or missing), submit a help ticket through the Support Web Portal. You are required to include your CPA Canada Candidate ID (I.e. seven-digit number that begins with 4) when submitting a ticket. If you are new to using the formatting tools in Excel, information can be found on the Microsoft support site.

21 CHAPTER 7 Profession Assessments 17 6 Reference Materials The Reference Material screen appears when the reference link in a question is clicked. If this screen does not appear during the examination, please ensure that your laptop is connected to the internet. If your laptop is connected to the internet and the reference material does not appear, submit a help ticket through the Support Web Portal. You are required to include your CPA Canada Candidate ID (I.e. seven-digit number that begins with 4) when submitting a ticket.
