3 Building Systems Catalogs registry o Default part catalogs and content locations o Set paths to your ABS content o Set common paths in the network deployment! Building Systems Catalogs Specify the default part catalogs and content locations from which parts are selected during layout If you are sharing common content files to the office, this is the location where you specify the path to that content Note when setting up a network deployment, you have the option to install and path the content in the deployment package 7

4 AEC Content Tab registry Content Path Point to a central content source Accessed on the Custom tab in Design Center AEC Content Tab This tab specifies the location of the content files accessed by the Custom View in AutoCAD DesignCenter i.e. design and documentation content. Content Path Path to centralized content location i.e. a common network drive Display Edit Property Data Dialog During Tag Insertion Controls whether the Property Set Definition dialog box is displayed each time an object is tagged. 8

Degrade to Wireframe This uses less of the system resources and allows the drawing to move at a faster speed. Maintain - 5 FPS Specifies the display speed in frames per second. Dynamic Tessellation On Sets the options that determine the smoothness of the objects in a drawing. Surface Tessellation - Midrange Determines the amount of detail for surfaces in your drawing. Curve Tessellation - Midrange Determines the amount of detail for curves in your drawing. No. of Tessellations to Cache 2 A cache is a special memory subsystem that stores frequently accessed information. The 3D cache always stores at least one tessellation. Render Options Off Makes settings available for enhancing the display of lights, materials, textures, and transparency in 3D views. Geometry Discard Back Faces If you select this option you are choosing not to draw the back faces in your drawing therefore performance is enhanced. Acceleration Software Select to use the software graphics system to perform all of the drawing tasks in 3D. Use Geometry Acceleration (Single Precision) Geometry acceleration must be supported by your graphics card. Enable Anti-aliasing lines Lines appear smoother and less gradient. 10

6 AEC Object Settings Tab drawing AEC Facet Resolution Facet Deviation Chord to arc distance Facet Maximum Curved object facets AEC Object Settings Tab Specify the maximum number of facets used to display a curved object, such as a cylinder or curved wall. AEC Display Resolution Facet Deviation Maximum distance from the chord to the arc Must be greater than zero (0) and has no upper limit. Facet Maximum Maximum number of facets used to display a curved object, such as a Cylinder mass element, or a curved wall. 11

9 Building Systems Crossed Objects Tab drawing o Apply gap to outside o Apply gap to inside o Gap width o Increase drawing open o Disable haloed lines o Haloed lines??? Haloing lines makes it easier to understand a wireframe drawing. Lines that pass behind other lines stop short a little before passing behind. It makes it clearer which line is in front of the other. Building Systems Crossed Objects Tab In your drawing, some runs may cross over other runs that have a lower elevation. The representation of crossing or overlapping objects at different elevations in plan view is referred to as "haloed lines. Haloed is a programming term, a description can be found at Apply gap to outside Specifies a gap to the outside of the crossed objects Apply gap to inside Specifies a gap to the inside of the crossed objects Gap width Specifies the width of the gap Increase drawing open performance by saving haloed lines in drawing Disable haloed lines for MvParts Ignore haloed lines on MvParts 15

10 Building Systems Tooltips drawing o Tooltips display information about objects o Control what information is displayed Building Systems Tooltips Building Systems tooltips can display information about an object under the cursor Can display multiple bits of information 16

11 Profiles Tab registry Add To List Add a new profile to the list Set Current Set it the new profile current Export Profile resides in the registry until exported Profiles Tab Use the Profiles tab in the Options dialog box to create and save your drawing environment settings. Add To List Set Current Export Make sure you add a description to all profiles that you create to document your effort. Any changes you make to the system settings will now be applied to this profile Exports the profile to a file with an ARG extension. After profile specific options have been set, or, after any changes are made, export the profile to a known location. 17

12 Templates o Styles Drawing based styles Symbology, Devices Panels, Fittings Template based styles Section/Elevation Styles, Label Styles Layer Key Styles Code Related Information Pipe Sizing Tables, Demand Factors, Fixture Units System and Style Definitions Template based styles include items such as: Schematic symbology, electrical devices, electrical panels, plumbing fittings Drawing (library) based styles include such items as: Section/Elevation Styles, Label Styles, Demand Factor Styles, Wire Styles, Rise/Drop Styles, Classification Definitions, Layer Key Styles 18

13 Templates o System Definitions o Mechanical o Electrical o Plumbing o Specify o Layer Key Style o Abbreviation o System Group o System Type System and Style Definitions Create discipline specific templates that contain styles and systems for that discipline only. The following list describes these definitions. System Definitions A system is a collection of related components that work together and maintain common physical and visual characteristics. You define System Definitions in Style Manager by selecting MEP Common -> Mechanical -> HVAC System Definition. Electrical -> Electrical System Definition Plumbing -> Plumbing System Definition The design rules for a system definition establish the following: Layer Key Style Sets common layer for system objects Abbreviation An alternate system name System Group Associate systems without changing individual system properties System Type Plumbing and Electrical systems also have Type designation that control unique behavior of these systems. Electrical Type controls properties such as number of poles. Plumbing Type controls fixture connections, fitting orientation and pipe sizing criteria. 19
