The Definitive Guide to the Northrepps Model Flying Club Website Public Area This is the Homepage of our website. It welcomes you to the view we are giving of our Club for the World to see. The menu bar along the top is fairly self explanatory really. All have drop down sub menu items for you to browse. We hope that a combination of all of these pages will give you a current view of our Club, what we do and what we can offer to the viewer. The website is designed to be of use every day we hope. The what s new box top right is a quick snippet of what s happening and what s new on the site. There are a lot of bits here for you to click on. As you have probably gathered we are an English Club, located in England. We are proud of our heritage, contrary to the dictates of those that govern us. So click on the flag of St.George and the N.M.F.C. title. Click on the badge to see our welcome video. Click on the scenic view at the bottom to get a wind map. On the bottom bar we have links mainly for everyday, some a little more specific. Starting left to right we have all things BMFA, The Poppy Shop, East Anglia Air Ambulance, Northrepps Airfield, the webcam that watches our field, Weather options and finally our Facebook page. These links remain constant throughout
the public area of our site. As you can see in the main text there is a link to Contact Someone in a darker yellow. This is the general link structure through the site. If we mention a need to do or see something we will link it in like this. The Home button of the menu will offer encrypted links to the Members Only and Committee Members Areas. If you do not have legitimate access do not click these. It will also allow you to download or view this guide. The About Us menu is probably the main selection area if you are visiting the site to learn about us as it gives all the relevant up to date information about us as you will be able to see in the following pages. Overview This tells you what you need to know about us generally and has a link to our small rule book in the middle of the text. If you plan to visit us please read this beforehand as we are an active airfield and it does contain a few bits you need to know. As well as the standard links carried on from the homepage the Club Badge top left has a new video and there is a recorded flight from one of our members gliders flying from the site. This will give you a good view of the surrounding countryside and any obstacles you will come across during your every day flying from our field. This brings us nicely to the next page Our Field.
As with all the public area pages, the same theme is carried throughout the site. All the standard bottom bar links are there along with the menu structure and the two links top right. The Club Badge on this page has a short video about the field. The picture has three links, click the picture itself for a larger view, the Club area in yellow with the mini badge for a drawing of the Club area layout and the yellow text link to find us on Google Maps. In the main text area there are three links, as before they are mentioned so linked. These take you to the Training page, an FAQ page, and again the Contacts Page. This is to save you having to go to the main menu each time if you wish to jump forward through pages. Next we have the Training Page..
The NMFC offers training to people that wish to learn to fly model aircraft or to refresh those that have done so in the past and wish to get back into the hobby. The Club has access to a few members aircraft for training and a couple of Club purchased models. If you click on the model pictures you will get a breakdown spec sheet for the chosen model. In the text area we have a link to instructors. This will give you contact details for your instructor. Try clicking the Club badge, see if anything is there :-) Initial training is carried out using a buddy box system. We start you this way to try to save as much anguish and expense as we can and enable you to enjoy your learning experience with us. Next we have the fee structure for the Club and the parent organisation, the BMFA
Our Club fees run from the 01 January to the 31st December every year. We offer a reduced fee for those that join us after the 01 September. As we are an affiliated club it is also a necessity that you join the parent body. Their price structure is shown on the left of the page. They reduce their cost of membership in two stages, on the 01 July and the 01 September. The BMFA membership provides you with the insurance cover that we deem essential to fly models in this day and age where litigation is prevalent. Also because we fly on an active airfield that can be busy at times and does have the odd visitor in a full size aircraft who we sometime wonder about. As in all walks of life there are some that are ignorant of the rules and some that feel they don t apply to them. Neither scenario is acceptable but does happen. We expect our members to use their common sense, if they fail to do so they will be warned, fail again and they will be asked to leave. This is our main rule - use you common sense! This is also the page to download an application form for membership and a renewal application form. We do not currently make any one off charge for enrolment. Next we come to the contacts for the Club
Here you will find all of the contact details for the Club, including the three Committee positions the Club has, a General Enquiries Form and the subscribe/unsubscribe to the Club Newsletter option. All options should open your program directly with some fields of the outgoing message prefilled. You just need to fill in anything missing and send it. The Club has a monthly newsletter, you can see the latest edition on the News menu option. Next on this drop down menu we have the Guestbook page. This is old school website design but still liked by a lot of website visitors, albeit taking the time and effort to make an entry seems to be dying off. I envisage this being removed in the future. The final option from the About Us menu is the Flying Today page. Here you can see if there is anyone going to be at the field or arrange to meet someone at the field if that is your wish. Generally it is used by members to see who will be at the field with them. It is not always good to fly alone, besides that is the reason for a Club like ours, camaraderie with like minded friends. The next option along the menu bar is Links. Here we try to have all the links you will need for your hobby. Obviously this will never be complete but it is a good attempt.
Links of Interest is the first option and we hope it does what it says, just browse and click. All links to outside sites will link to a new page so our website is always open and you can return to it to continue your adventure. The next option is for Member Sites. These are any site connected to a Club Member. A little bit of back scratching, you never know when it may return something to your site. Next we have a list of BMFA Clubs local to us.
There are really only five Clubs that are active for all and close to us. We get asked why we have this as surely we want the members, not to push them off to other Clubs. This is true, but we are here to help you get the best out of your model flying. It may be there is a Club closer to you than us and this may be a better option for you. All we say is have a look at other Clubs and join the one of your choice on the merit of the Club as it is presented to you. We will always stand by our Club and our presentation of it but we do understand it may not be what you want from the hobby. As always the choice remains yours. Next on the list is RC Dealers.
Needless to say this is not a complete list and we do not recommend any dealership over any other. We just aim to have a list of some of the more common or local dealers and give you the ability to get to them easily. The final section of this menu is for a couple of full size aviation services mainly for interest, and a few publications we see as necessary or of interest to read, some from outside agencies, others from our Club. These give you the direct links to browse at your leisure. Next we have the News section on the main menu bar.
First off, we have the News Blog. Members of the Committee can add news items relevant to their area or from general news as they deem fit. It does contain bits from outside the Club but is mainly for Club or Airfield News. Only Committee members may add news items but anyone is able to make comment on the items added. Next is the latest newsletter. This option gives you the ability to download the latest edition as a.pdf file. As said previously, this is published once a month, on the 1st of the month. Anyone can subscribe to get this by on the 1st of the month (ish). The final entry on the News tab is for forthcoming events.
As you can see from the right hand panel we post four categories, Airfield Bookings, Invite Bookings, Club Commitments, and General Events. At the start of the year we update the airfield bookings for the full year. As we fly on an active airfield we need to know what to expect in the air when we are flying and sometimes when we do not fly due to NOTAM Orders. If a NOTAM Order affects the full size, we comply as a courtesy and stay on the ground. Invites to functions also get listed here. We have managed to get an invite currently for the Binham Flyins. These are LMA functions but the organiser has agreed we can attend as a Club on the Sunday of the event. Some of our members are also LMA Members and take advantage of the full LMA membership for these events. Club Commitments are not that many. Currently we commit to help the Airfield in anyway we can. When they put on the bi-annual Open Day we will have a display tent and flying demonstrations from the Club and generally try to help out where we can if needed. General Events are the major model shows. These are usually restricted to the localised ones only. All other events on the BMFA or LMA calendars can be accessed from their page links at the top of the key box.
Next are the galleries. These are really self explanatory and are there for general browsing and will hopefully give you an insight into our life at the airfield and what can be seen from time to time. The wallpapers are shots we think you may like as a backdrop on your computer. We now come to the final menu, The Shop, here we have Club Sales, they have reduced of late to mainly fuel and a windscreen sticker. We do have a contact with a clothier in Norwich which does sewn badges but we have now made this so the members can go direct to obtain their goods as requests were few and far between and it was not proving viable. The fuel we stock is ordered on average twice a year dependant on the amount of IC flying we are getting done. We stock Westons Liquid Gold 5% & 10% fuels by the gallon. These are available at a discounted price. A small percentage goes to the club to help boost club funds a little. General Sales covers the sale of anything by members and friends. It should be remembered we are a small club and the circulation is limited. Finally we have the Wanted Section. If any member is after a specific part, list it here and keep the fingers crossed. As you can see there is a lot crammed into what is quite a small club and site. We hope you find it useful. If you do perhaps a quick message in the guest book would be a nice acknowledgement. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
