5 Preface Preface This document explains new functionality and enhancements included in the JICS release and details resolved and known issues currently affecting base JICS, Jenzabar elearning, e-racer and the Constituent Relationship Modules. 6 Preface Assumptions We assume that you have expertise in and permission to administer both JICS and your ERP. Conventions used in this document This document uses the conventions described in the following table. Table P-1. Conventions Style black bold gray bold gray bold italic italics blue monospace italic monospace Description Indicates a term that is being used and defined for the first time. Also used to introduce procedures and for emphasis. Used to quote the names of labels and options as they are displayed in the JICS interface. Used to represent text in system-generated messages and labels, when the text would vary depending on the name that you gave something. For example, when you edit a page, the system displays a label that says Edit page name of page, where name of page is the name of your page. Used for document titles, for emphasis, and for nonliteral representations of user interface (UI) elements. Indicates that the text is a hyperlink to either another place in this document or to a URL. Used for file names, menu paths, code and text that you enter. Used to identify user input in situations where the text is not literal. For example, if we want you to enter the name of your database server, this might be represented as YourDatabaseServer. This icon is used alongside a note or a recommended practice. This icon is used alongside a cautionary note. Tracking numbers The main tracking numbers used in this document are from TestTrack Pro, or TTP, which is the internal tracking system used in Product Development. In some cases a support-call reference number is also listed. 6

7 Preface Illustrations in this guide The illustrations in this guide were created using the artwork and site design in effect when JICS is first installed. If your site has been customized with your school s own logos and artwork, and as you further customize by creating and modifying tabs and other content, your view of JICS will be different. Terms Note that the following names are sometimes used: Constituent Relationship Module is often abbreviated as CRM. e-racer and Jenzabar elearning are sometimes referred to as the LMS. JICS is sometimes referred to as the portal. The term portlet has been replaced with feature in JICS and elearning. Generally any reference to a feature in this document is referencing a portlet. About the modules This section describes the versions of optional modules that you will get with a new installation, if you are licensed for these modules, as well as any versioning changes that could result from an upgrade from a prior version of JICS. If you ever need to review the version numbers you have installed, log in to JICS as an administrator and choose Site Manager > Portal version info. Note that in general, proper functioning of optional modules, particularly the CRMs, depends in part on supporting components in the ERP system. If you think that your ERP system may lack a particular update, check MyJenzabar.net for information on available upgrades. If this is a new installation If your JICS license key includes the following optional modules, a new installation will include the versions listed below. e-racer LMS Admissions Officer CRM 1.0 Advancement Officer CRM At the time of this writing, QX does not support this CRM. At the time of this writing, TE does not support version 1.5 of Advancement Officer (version 1.0 is supported and activated). Note that the 1.5 functionality is hidden by default. Candidate CRM 2.0 Constituent CRM 1.0 7

8 Preface Faculty CRM 1.0 At the time of this writing, PX does not support this CRM. Staff CRM At the time of this writing, QX does not support this CRM. Student CRM 1.0 At the time of this writing, PX does not support this CRM. Upgrades to some of these modules may be available. For details on finding upgrades, see Additional upgrades may be available on page 8. If this is an upgrade If this is an upgrade, and if you have previously upgraded one of the optional modules, the JICS installer will respect your upgrade. That is, newer versions will not be overwritten with older ones. Compatibility e-racer is the only supported e-racer release compatible with JICS 8.4.x. JICS 8.4.x will automatically update your system to e-racer if necessary. elearning is the only supported elearning release compatible with JICS Course Evaluation is automatically updated to the latest version each time you upgrade JICS. Jenzabar Mobile If you are using Jenzabar Mobile Web (formerly known as Jenzabar Mobile) and are planning to install JICS 8.4.2, you will need to upgrade Jenzabar Mobile Web to version Jenzabar Mobile Web must be upgraded after e-racer, elearning or CRM updates. For information and updates about JICS Mobile Web, log in to My Jenzabar and choose Support > Jenzabar Mobile. Additional upgrades may be available Additional upgrades for certain modules may be available on MyJenzabar. In general, you run a different installer to get these updates, as follows: To view and download available CRM upgrades, log in to MyJenzabar and choose Support > JICS-CRMs > JICS Downloads for EX > CRM installers and documentation. The available upgrades are listed on this page. To view and download available Jenzabar elearning upgrades, log in to MyJenzabar and choose Support > Jenzabar elearning > Downloads. 8

12 What s new MoxieManager link in the admin bar The admin bar now features a link to MoxieManager. The admin bar now contains a link to MoxieManager. Clicking this link will open the MoxieManager window with the user s personal folder selected. Note that the admin bar will display only for users who have administrative privileges for the page being viewed. 12

13 What s new Package installer JICS provides the ability for an administrator to install JICS features via a new Package Installer tab in Site Manager. This tab can be enabled by setting Value=True for the Category=PackageInstaller with the Key=EnableTab in the FWK_ConfigSettings table of the ICS- NET database. This value is set to False by default. On the Package Installer tab, an administrator can upload a JICS feature installer package and then install the feature. Upload packages and install them here. The log keeps track of all uploaded packages. Once a feature is installed, its log file will appear in the Package Install Log at the bottom of the Package Installer tab. You can open the log file by clicking its name. Blog performance update We improved the way blog data is retrieved from the database, which will reduce load times of the Bog feature in some cases. 13

15 Resolved issues Installer issue related to.net Framework 4.6 No TTP We fixed a bug that was causing an error with the JICS installer for clients who have.net Framework 4.6 installed. Display name not showing in From field of TTP (Support call ) We fixed a bug that was causing an address to appear in the From field instead of the user s display name when the was sent using the Private (Addresses are listed in the 'Bcc:' field) option in the Group Directory for a private group. Issues with Usage Statistics feature TTP (Support call and others) We fixed an issue that was causing the Usage Statistics feature to fail. Forum replies linked to wrong posts TTP (Support call ) We fixed a bug that was causing a forum reply to be linked to the wrong post when the user had multiple forum posts open in multiple browser tabs. Portal-only users unable to change passwords TTP (Support call ) We fixed a bug that was preventing portal-only users from changing their passwords on the Personal Info screen. CUS tables deprecated during upgrade TTP (Support call ) As part of our Calendar upgrade logic, CUS tables that ended with numbers were accidentally being deprecated. We corrected this issue so that CUS tables are no longer deprecated. 15

16 Known issues Known issues This chapter lists known issues in JICS. This list includes bugs introduced over the course of many past releases. Though cumulative, this list is not comprehensive. It includes those issues that we think are most likely to affect users and administrators. In this chapter: Known issues in Base JICS Known issues in Form Builder

17 Known issues Known issues in Base JICS This section describes issues with the installer, the base JICS features and other elements common to all JICS installations. Issue with MoxieManager favorites in hidden shared folders If a user adds a file from a context s shared folder to their favorites in MoxieManager, and the shared folder in which that file is located is then hidden by an administrator, the user will see an error when viewing their Favorites folder in MoxieManager. Issue with long file paths in MoxieManager Windows file uploads to MoxieManager will fail when the file path is longer than 266 characters including the file name. When this occurs, MoxieManager will not provide feedback to the user. To avoid this issue, users can shorten the file path by taking one of the following steps: Rename the file using fewer characters. Copy the file to a directory higher in the Windows folder hierarchy. Create environmental variables to the folder. This issue occurs because on Windows systems is not yet possible to access files with paths longer than 266 characters. The MoxieManager product support team is working on this issue for a future release. For more information on how file paths are handled in Windows, see the following article on Microsoft s website: Time-picker dropdown in new Calendar feature not working on ipad No tracking number If you are using an ipad with the new Calendar feature, the time picker dropdowns will not work properly in the Add an event dialog (the quick-add popup). You will have to manually type the time instead. JICS timeout popup appears behind MoxieManager No tracking number When MoxieManager is in full-screen mode, the JICS timeout pop-up will appear behind it. If the user does not close the MoxieManager window and choose to continue the session, the session will time out. 17

18 Known issues New users are not immediately available in people chooser No tracking number New users who are added via the Site Manager or through the DIS will appear in the principal selector as expected but will not appear in the people chooser until the JICS Scheduler job is run (which is typically once a day, at 2:00 am EST). Popup is referencing wrong.net Framework prerequisite TTP JICS 8.x requires.net v4.5 Framework, but when upgrading on a machine that is currently running v3.5, there is a.net Framework Initialization Error that incorrectly refers to v4.0. Some elements display inconsistently in Internet Explorer 8 No tracking number With Internet Explorer 8.0, in certain isolated cases an inconsistency occurs in the Handouts feature in which certain fields are grayed out and can only be populated using the Browse button. By contrast, with other browsers, you can either type in the correct value or use the Browse button. This is the case with the screen where you add a handout (the File field), and the screen where you edit a handout (the Replace With field). The installer issues some warnings that can be ignored No tracking number If you are installing JICS for the first time, the installer issues warnings for certain commands related to ICS File Server permissions. These warnings are not indicative of a problem. Specifically, depending on whether you are installing on Windows Server 2003 or 2008, you will see two or three of the following warnings: MSBUILD : warning MSB3073: The command "icacls "C:\Program Files\Jenzabar\ICS.NET\ICSFileServer" /grant "CAM- SQL2K8TEST\ASPNET":(OI)(CI)F /t" exited with code MSBUILD : warning MSB3073: The command "icacls "C:\Program Files\Jenzabar\ICS.NET\ICSFileServer\" /grant "CAM- SQL2K8TEST\ASPNET":(OI)(CI)F /t" exited with code 123. MSBUILD : warning MSB3073: The command "icacls "C:\Program Files\Jenzabar\ICS.NET\ICSFileServer\" /grant "NETWORK SERVICE":(OI)(CI)F 18

19 Known issues /t" exited with code 87. These errors occur because the installer, to account for differences among operating systems and possible variations in the syntax for a particular setting, executes multiple commands to achieve the same end. These warnings can be ignored. Similarly, you may also see the following warnings, which can be ignored: MSBUILD : warning : Couldn't find the 'DIS' service on 'Server Name' MSBUILD : warning : Couldn't find the 'Httpfilter' service on 'Server Name' The Administrator user s photo is not handled properly TTP 3731 If the Administrator user uploads a photo via the Personal Info > Photo screen, the system does not handle the photo properly. That is, the wrong photo may end up being displayed in the Administrator s personal profile. Problems may also occur after the photo is deleted. For these reason, the Administrator user should not upload a photo. Placement of new tabs may be incorrect TTP When you create a new tab, the placement of the tab is not always handled correctly. That is, the tab may display in a different position than what you specified on the Add a New Tab screen. Further, the Re-Order Tabs screen may include duplicates of some tab positions (that is, more than one tab might be configured to show in the second or third position, whereas only one tab should be allowed to hold each position). In RSS News Reader, long category names are not handled gracefully TTP In the RSS News Reader feature, if a category name is longer than 23 characters, the display of the name does not render gracefully. The Add a Handout link does not always display properly TTP If the Handouts feature is the only feature on a page, the system fails to display the Add a Handout link. Issues exist with Select Users dialog box TTP In the Announcements and Task Manager features, the following issue exists with the Select Users dialog box: If you display the Select Users dialog box in a context that does not have contextspecific roles defined, the radio buttons at the top of the dialog box essentially have no function. That is, if you select the context-specific radio button (the one on the right), the dialog box continues listing all users in the system and does nothing to indicate that there actually are no context-specific users. 19

20 Known issues In Learning Tools feature, image gallery does not display TTP If you upload an image in the introduction of a Learning Tools feature instance, but do not drag the image into the text editor, the image will not display. (The intended functionality is that any images uploaded will display in a gallery below the introduction text.) In Learning Tools feature, issue with deleting images TTP If you add an image to your introduction by dragging it into the text box, then you later open the introduction for editing and delete the image from the gallery (but not from the text box), the saved introduction will display in some browsers with a broken-image icon. In Learning Tools, use blank spaces to clear a description for an activation TTP If you want to override a tool s basic settings and remove its description text, simply clearing the Description field within the activation settings screen does not accomplish this. To remove the description for a particular activation, delete the text in the Description field on the activation settings screen and add several empty spaces to the field (and save your changes). In Learning Tools, yellow-screen error if you click link to a deactivated tool TTP If you activate a tool, distribute the link to users, then deactivate the tool, people who try to use the link will see a yellow-screen error that reads in part Server Error in '/ICS' Application. This could also happen with links that still appear in JICS for example, the error could display if a user is viewing a page that includes the Launch this tool link, the link is deactivated, and the user fails to refresh his or her screen before clicking the deactivated link. In Learning Tools, Add a category pop-up may display incorrectly TTP The following issue can occur when adding a tool: If you have permission to add categories, and you press the enter key after entering a URL on the screen where you add a tool, the system incorrectly displays the Add a category pop-up. If you do not need to create a category, you can just click cancel to dismiss the pop-up. 20

21 Known issues Known issues in Form Builder 2.0 This section describes issues with Form Builder 2.0. Issues exist with Save and Finish Later TTP 8708, 8278 (Support call 88985) The following issue currently affects only the CRM Candidate features (Apply Online 2.0 and Make an Inquiry 2.0): If you log in to JICS as an administrator and display a form as a prospective student would (that is, not in preview mode), you may experience problems using the Save and Finish Later button: If you fill out the form, click Save and Finish Later, then navigate back to the Form Builder: Name of your form screen and preview the form, the system deletes the form response values. If you fill out the form, click Save and Finish Later, navigate back to the Form Builder: Name of your form screen, preview the form, and then do not return to the Form Builder, but rather navigate back to the feature as a prospective student would, the Save and Finish Later button is no longer displayed on the form. In its place, the system displays a Back to the Form Builder link. To get the Save and Finish Later button back, log out and log back in. Issues exist with <br> tags TTP 8981 (Support call 88985) If you are editing question text in HTML mode, and you want to create a line break, you should do so using a <p> tag, and use the margin-top CSS attribute to adjust the spacing, as follows: <p style="margin-top:0px">this is a paragraph.</p> Note that you cannot use <br> or <br /> to effect line breaks. Questions that use <br> or <br /> display correctly when switching back and forth between the Normal and HTML view within the rich text editor, but after you save the question, the <br> or <br /> tags are removed. After finishing and saving your questions, use the Preview this form or Preview this question features to make sure that all questions display as you intend. 21
