The documentation is released in multiple volumes to meet this commitment. This document serves as a reference for Edupoint's recommendations and Best Practices for Synergy processes. Due to the complex nature and myriad configurations possible within the Synergy software, it is not feasible to include every possible scenario within this guide. Conventions Used in This Manual Bold indicates user interactions such as a button or field on the screen. Italics indicate the option to select or text to enter. Notes, Tips, References, and Cautions appear in the margin to provide additional information. Notes provide additional information about the subject. References list another source of information, such as another manual or website. Tips suggest advanced options or other ways of approaching the subject. Cautions warn of potential problems. Take special care when reading these sections. 6 6 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction Overview With Synergy LMS, teachers access everything they need in one place using LMS pages: Curriculum Elements Curriculum Maps Assignments Student work Assessments Performance analytics Digital resources Classroom management tools Synergy LMS allows teachers to create web pages that contain the curriculum for the their classes. You can make the LMS pages visible in ParentVUE and StudentVUE and replace Class Websites. The hierarchy for LMS content is: Library > Book > Page > Panel. When you access the LMS, a default library opens that contains the necessary components for the page. Rename the Default Library, Default Book, and Default Page to names you want to use using the menus. Accessing LMS Navigate to Synergy SIS > LMS > LMS. Users with access to Grade Book, access the LMS pages from the LessonVUE menu. A LMS page opens in viewing mode: Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

8 8 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction Formatting Window This section describes the formatting window used to create curriculum templates and content for curriculum elements. The formatting uses a CKEditor. Curriculum Templates Screen, Formatting Window The formatting and editing tools available for creating templates and content are: Source Toggles the view between WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) and HTML editing mode. When editing in HTML, the HTML tags such as <p> or <b> display. For example: A heading using the Heading 1 style would appear: <h1>heading</h1>. New Page Clears unsaved changes Preview Previews the template design Cut, Copy and Paste Cuts, copies, or pastes the selected text Paste as Plain Text Pastes the text as plain text with no formatting. This is helpful when copying from other programs that may have hidden HTML formatting, such as other web pages or Microsoft Outlook. Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

9 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction 9 Paste From Word Inserts text copied from Microsoft Word and allows you to edit the text to remove erroneous HTML code that Microsoft Word inserts. a. Paste the text in the pop-up box. b. Select Remove Styles definitions, if needed. c. Click OK. 10 10 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction Replace Replaces text Find And Replace Box, Replace Tab Select All Selects all content in the formatting window Bold, Italic, Underline or Strikethrough Formats the selected text as bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough Subscript and Superscript Inserts subscript or superscript text Remove Format Clears all formatting for the selected text Insert/Remove Numbered or Bulleted List Formats the selected paragraphs as numbers or bullets Increase or Decrease Indent, Outdent Indents or outdents the selected paragraph Blockquote Indents the paragraph on both sides Align Left, Center, Align Right, or Justify Aligns text per the setting Insert Hyperlink or Remove Hyperlink Inserts or removes a link to a website or address Anchor Inserts a place that you can link to inside the template Table Inserts a table Insert Horizonal Line Inserts a horizontal line Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

16 16 LMS User Guide Managing Libraries A Library is the main repository for all of the content. It contains books that contain pages that contain panels. 1. Click Library. 2. Select a library under Switch Library. Add a Library 1. Select Add New Library from Library. 2. Enter the New Library Name. 3. Click +Add Library. Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

17 LMS User Guide 17 Edit a Library Name 1. Click Edit Library Name from Library. 2. Modify the library name. 3. Click Save Library. Delete a Library Libraries that are shared to ParentVUE cannot be deleted. Remove sharing from the library before deleting. 1. With the library selected, select Delete Library from Library. 2. 18 18 LMS User Guide Changing Libraries 1. Click Library. 2. Select a library under Switch Library. Sharing to ParentVUE You can customize the images that display for the libraries. You can use the school and your picture for homeroom class libraries and subject related pictures for subject/course libraries. 1. With a library selected, select the course or subject. The images display. 2. (Optional) Change the images: Change the Teacher s Picture 1. Click. Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

If not sharing to ParentVUE, the book banner displays at the top of the page., Books Without ParentVUE If sharing to ParentVUE, the book banner displays under the picture., Books With ParentVUE Add a Book to a Library 1. 25 LMS User Guide 25 Edit a Page 1. Select the page. 2. Click Page. 3. Select Edit Page Name under Manage Page. 4. Change the name of the page. 5. Click Save Page. Delete a Page 1. Select the page. 2. Click Page. Drag and drop pages to a new location to change the order you want them to display. 3. Select Delete Page under Manage Page. 4. Click Delete Page. Select a layout by selecting the blue box: Page Layouts Screen Share Pages Within a District 1. Click Page Sharing Options. 2. Type a keyword in the search box. This search uses dynamic filters. Depending on the keyword you enter, the following groups display: Users Courses Departments Grade Level User Groups Schools 3. Make selections from displayed options. 28 28 LMS User Guide Managing Panels Working with Panels A panel displays with helpful hints. This panel will delete as soon as you add another panel. Click to expand the content. Click to return the previous view. Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

29 LMS User Guide 29 Add a Panel 1. Click Page and click + Add Panel or click Add Panel. 2. Select a panel type. 3. Select a location on the page from the panel layout. 4. Click Save. Edit a Panel Drag and drop panels to a new location to change the order you want them to display. 1. Click. 2. Click Edit Panel. 3. Edit the panel. See Panel Types. 4. Click Update. Delete a panel 1. Click Save/Add to Page., Existing Resource Tab To link to Google Drive or OneDrive: 1. Click Web/File Resources. 2. Select the Google Drive or OneDrive tab. 3. Enter a Panel Title. 4. Click Open. 5. Select a panel type: For items not shared to ParentVUE/StudentVUE, select from: Class Mark Distribution At Risk Students, Grade Book Panel, Not Shared For items shared to ParentVUE/StudentVUE, select from: Missing Assignments Upcoming Assignments My Class This Week Standards Summary At Risk Assignments Current Grade With Category Chart, Grade Book Panel, Shared 4. 37 LMS User Guide 37 Streams Discussion Only one Streams discussion is allowed per page. 1. Click Streams Discussion. 2. Select who can see and post to the discussion: Select Group is Public to allow other Streams users to search the Streams Group. 3. Use the filters to search for people to add to the conversation. 4. 38 38 LMS User Guide Video/Image and Text 1. Click Video/Image and Text. 2. Select media. Click to select media from a website. a. Enter the URL. b. Select the Alignment. c. Click OK. d. Enter and format the content for the video or image. Click to upload an image. a. Choose the file. b. Click Upload. c. Enter and format the content for the video or image. Click to select YouTube content. A window displays for searching of YouTube content. a. Use Keyword Search to find YouTube content. b. Click a video to select and preview the desired YouTube content. c. Click to embed the content into the LMS Panel. Requires Google Drive to add YouTube content. 3. Click Save/Add to Page. 40 40 LMS User Guide Calendar 1. Click Calendar. 2. Enter Panel Title. 3. Click Save/Add to Page. You can add content to the calendar before saving it to an LMS page. Adding Content to the Calendar 1. Toggle Editing On. 2. Click. 3. Click Edit Panel. 4. Double-click the day to open the event window. Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

41 LMS User Guide Enter event details. Event Window Subject Title of the event displayed on the calendar. All day Toggle to ON to make the event an all day event. The times in Start Date and End Date options do not display when you select All Day. Start Date / End Date Enter the start and finish date and time of the event. Repeat Event Details Color Select a color for the event to display as when added to the calendar. Description Enter details of the event with the advanced text-editing features. The details appear when hovering over an event or when you select an event to view from the main calendar. 6. Click Done to add the event to the calendar. 7. Click Update.
