Modifying default CSS (two files!)! Modifying buttons! Time = 70% discussion; 30% implementation! Still do not have needed control (SSIs! Tabs!)
4 Overview of testing 37 people tested (+15 SOM)! Staff 15! Students 11 " Additional 7 med students in person " feedback from 8 additional med students! Clinicians 3! Researchers 4! Other faculty/instructors 3! Member of public (ret. prof) 1! In addition to 200 people on survey! Sometimes more a dialogue! No computer/computer
5 Highlights from usability survey! People like the content we provide, but not the layers to gain access (too many links/clutter).! Some of our resources (Journals access, OPAC, WebBridge) frustrate them to no end! They think they are searching well, but they are confusing things and in the process missing a lot.! Users would like us to fix the existing interface first (before RSS, podcasts)

Completely stuck on what to do next if said was in Old Library. " Some would go to Old Library " Some thought they had to come into Library to fill out a form. " Clicked on call number link

20 Question 4 Books through Summit What people did on this task! Said they would assume we did not have item.! Did not know we could get it for them.! Assumed they had misspelled and tried again.! Would check Multnomah County Library or PSU or go to Amazon.com to buy book if desired.! No one knew what Summit was! No one could find the button even if they surmised we should have this function.

24 Summary of pain points - OPAC! Confusion with layout of OPAC in general! Confusion with layout of bib records for both journals and books! Confusion with terminology used in OPAC! Finding something good enough if not exact article
25 Recommendations Short term! Make Request button stand out more! Make buttons be just larger words and not images people have to figure out.! Take out or reduce prominence of buttons that seem cluttery to people " MARC We have this info through staff login " Another Search Seemingly redundant with New Search! Change Summit button to say something more obvious about it s function (ie. Request from other libraries ).! Change term of Search as Words
26 Recommendations Long term Lobby Innovative for changes to OPAC that we cannot currently make " Include link where Search as Words is now to be Search affiliated libraries (i.e. Summit function) " More faceted/grouped searching in OPAC less layers and confusion! Bottom line: Existing system is still not as flexible as we need it to be.
