1 ACCESSING LIBRARY RESOURCES How to find books in the Southend Forum How to find and use e-books How to find journals and search within journals How to find subject specific resources FINDING THE SOUTHEND SOUTHEND FORUM To find books held within the Southend Forum library go to the library homepage.then click on the Southend books tab above the search bar.

Scroll down to Item details this will show how many copies we have and the classmark of the book e.g BLO, use this to find the book on the shelves. FINDING E-BOOKS To find e-books, click on the Library search tab above the search bar and search for the book title. To narrow down your list of results you can use the filters on the right hand side. Choose Publication year in order to bring up the most recent edition of the book. Then select the book you want by clicking on its title to bring up its record. To filter only e-books from the list of results, click on E-book from the list of options on the left hand side.

From the list of results, select the E-book you want to read by clicking on the link view the full text.

You can access past issues by clicking on Select Year and then selecting what year and what issue you would like to view.

Make sure to create a username and password different from your University login details.

FINDING JOURNALS To search for journals, click on the Journal search tab and search for the journal title.

3 From the list of results, select the E-book you want to read by clicking on the link view the full text. You can then either download or view the e-book online. You can access past issues by clicking on Select Year and then selecting what year and what issue you would like to view. If you are downloading the book from EBSCOhost you will need to create a free account. Make sure to create a username and password different from your University login details. Some titles are not available for download but you can still read them online. FINDING JOURNALS To search for journals, click on the Journal search tab and search for the journal title. SEARCHING WITHIN JOURNALS FOR ARTICLES This will bring you to a page where you can look at current articles as well as search through past issues. If you cannot find the journal you want within Journal Search you can also search for journals by selecting the Library Search tab. This also allows you to search within the journals for keywords to bring up more specific results for your research.

To filter only online journals from the list of results, click on E-journal from the list of options on the left hand side.

To search within the journal to bring up specific articles you can type key words into the Search box. Click on the journal s title to bring up it s record. SEARCHING FOR SPECIFIC ARTICLES USING CINAHL OR EBSCOHOST If you access journals using a CINAHL or EBSCOhost link this takes you to a different type of webpage. Under where it says Available Online click on the blue link to take you to the journal s website or the database which provides access to its archive. Sometimes there is more than one link, covering different publication dates. Select the link which is most relevant to your search. To search within the journal click on the blue link Search within this publication above the journal s title. Then use key words to bring up specific articles relevant to your research. In this case we will select the Wiley link as it has acess to the most recent articles. This will then take us to the journal website

Then select your department from the list of options. The subject guides have links to specialist databases, recommended websites as well as providing referencing help.
