1 What's New in Impressario 2 Integration New Media Inc Version

2 Welcome to Impressario 2 Impressario 2.0 contains exciting new features, many of which have been requested by users of the first version of Impressario. This document, when viewed within the sample movie, entitled "Whats-New-Impressario2.dir", gives you a quick overview of the new features. Sections entitled TRY ME are interactive demonstrations. For details on using these features, please consult the Impressario HTML Help system, by clicking Xtras > Impressario > Help, or view the Impressario User Manual as a PDF document: p.2/16

3 Full and Light versions The first big change is that Impressario is now available in two different flavors. The Light version gives developers with limited budgets and simpler needs an opportunity to take advantage of Impressario s cross-platform capabilities and self-contained nature, while keeping the upfront investment costs down. The Full version of Impressario offers powerful features that let you truly customize the end-user experience with the ability to monitor and control events, such as hyperlink clicks and form interactions, as well as the ability to customize parts of your PDF documents. The full version also now supports Shockwave delivery. Throughout this document, features that are available for the full version only are marked with this symbol: p.3/16

4 Overview of new features Here is a complete listing of all new features for version 2.0. Many of them are illustrated throughout this sample movie. Import multiple PDF documents at a time Auto-download PDF documents from the web New Impressario toolbars, plus additional buttons for existing toolbars, to support the following new features: Rotation of the PDF Zoom tool Native scrollbars Bookmarks Localization to multiple languages via external XML files. Ability to find and highlight all occurrences of found text within the PDF document. Ability to retrieve the image of a PDF page as a bitmap. Features available for the full version only Shockwave support Ability to replace a bitmap image within a PDF document Ability to trap events such as a hyperlink click, mouse enter and mouse leave for hyperlinks and form controls PDF forms support, including new support for multi-line text fields and the ability to set the focus for form controls p.4/16

5 1. Create multiple Impressario members at once Click Xtras > Impressario > Link Multiple PDFs. This option allows you to select multiple PDF documents to link and creates a new Impressario member for each document. Once your Impressario members are created, you can change their properties as follows: 1 Select multiple Impressario members in the cast, by holding the Shift key as you select them. 2 Open the properties inspector and edit the common properties from that window. 3 Double-click an Impressario member to bring up its Impressario Options dialog to edit member-specific properties. p.5/16

6 2. Auto-download PDF documents from URLs Now Impressario can display PDF documents that are located on the Internet and PDFs can contain hyperlinks to other PDFs that are URLs. 7 3. New toolbars A couple of new colorful Flash-based toolbars have been added to the Impressario Toolbars library. All Impressario toolbars also come with new buttons to support the following new features: Rotate PDF documents on screen, clockwise or counterclockwise by 90-degree intervals. Zoom tool lets you zoom in (or out) on a specific area of the PDF document. Open and Save buttons have also been added to all toolbars. TRY ME: Click the Rotate and Zoom Tool buttons on the toolbar of this sample movie to experiment with these new features. p.7/16

8 4. Native scrollbars Horizontal and vertical scrollbars are now native to the Impressario Xtra. They are an optional property of the Impressario sprite and are always on by default. The vertical scrollbars allow you to scroll through all pages of the document. However, only one page at a time is visible in the Impressario sprite. TRY ME: Try clicking the up and down scroll bar arrows on this document to scroll continuously. Click and drag the scrollbar "thumb" (the middle piece) to navigate to a relative position in the document. See what happens to the scrollbars when you zoom in our out on the document, using the Zoom buttons on the toolbar. p.8/16

9 5. Bookmarks The new methods GetBookmarks() and GotoBookmarks(), allow you to implement a bookmarks panel to provide simple and efficient navigation of any PDF document containing bookmarks. Impressario Bookmarks component To help you implement bookmarks quickly, in any project, we have supplied a Lingo-based Bookmarks component that is very easy to use. It's the one you see on the left hand side of this screen. The Lingo-based bookmark component offers several display options, including: ability to set the hilite color & blend ability to set the background color choice of horizontal scrollbar or tooltips for long bookmark names choice of using the current zoom level or the bookmark's stored zoom p.9/16

10 6. Localization to any language INM recognized the need to be able to easily adapt projects to suit audiences of different languages. Impressario now allows you to create or edit external XML-formatted text files containing the strings for all text displayed to the end-user, including the text of the Find dialog box, and Error and Warning messages, and then tell Impressario which XML file to use at runtime. TRY ME: 1 Select one of the language options available on this screen of the Director sample movie. 2 Then click the Find dialog box in the toolbar to search within the PDF document on screen. 11 7. Find and highlight items The Find dialog box now includes a new checkbox: Highlight all items found in the document. When this box is checked, all occurrences of the found text are highlighted throughout the PDF document. TRY ME: 1 Click the Find button on the toolbar and check the Highlight all items box. 2 Search for a term that appears often within this document, such as "hilight". p.11/16

12 8. Enhanced PDF forms PDF forms are supported in the full version of Impressario only. The following new forms capabilities have been added: TRY ME: Multi-line text fields are now supported, in addition to single-line text fields, check boxes and radio buttons. Centered alignment is now supported for both single-line and multi-line fields. Ability to set the focus to a specific form control through code. Events can be triggered to allow you to monitor and control user interaction with PDF form controls. Type any text in the multi-line form fields below. Multi-line field: Multi-line centered: p.12/16

13 9. Impressario Events Impressario 2 now triggers events, similar to Director's events, which allow you to monitor and control the way users interact with your PDF documents. Page and Document events These events allow you to refresh the display of controls in your movie, such as the bookmarks component, toolbar, and other visual cues. #Imp_PageChanged #Imp_DocumentChanged Form control and hyperlink events These events let you know if the user's mouse has entered a hyperlink or form control and provide information about those objects. TRY ME: Pass your mouse over the hyperlink text below and see what happens: "Hyperlink example" The tooltip effect you see is achieved through a script attached to the Impressario sprite, which contains handlers for the following events: #IMP_MouseEnter #IMP_MouseLeave #IMP_MouseWithin #IMP_HyperlinkClick Find out more about trapping and handling Impressario events in the User Manual and Help System: Xtras > Impressario > Help p.13/16

Customization of PDF content Customizing Images Customization of images within your PDF document can be achieved through the new ReplaceImage() method, which allows you to replace a bitmap inside a PDF document with an image from Director. TRY ME 9: 1 Click the button labeled Substitute Logo on this page. The logo below is substituted with the Impressario Light logo. 2 Click the button labeled Original Logo to return the original logo. Customizing text Customization of text within PDF documents, via text fields, is now enhanced with the addition of support for multi-line fields. Set the border of the field to None for a seamless effect. See Enhanced PDF forms for additional information. p.14/16

15 11. Shockwave support You can now deliver Impressario projects as Shockwave movies over the Internet! To test this feature, go to the Impressario product website and run the Shockwave movie in the Samples section: p.15/16
