5 1. Getting Started Opening the Parts and Service Application To open the parts and service application, click the Technical Documents button. Click here to open the parts and service application. To give you more working area, the parts and service application fills the entire screen, hiding the Stihl features across the top of the screen, when you start using the application. eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005) 5

6 Identifying the Main Page Frames The Main Page is your starting point in the parts and service application. This section provides an overview of the features available from the Main Page. 7 Using Main Page Features Feature How to Use Click the Main Page button to display the navigation links on the Main Page. This button is available at all screens except the Main Page. Click the Bulletins button to open the Bulletins window. From this window you can view and search for bulletins. Click the Search button to open the Search window. From this window you can search for parts and service information. Click the Notes button to open the Notes screen. From this screen you can manage user notes. Part Info Click Part Info to display a Part Number text box. Then type a number and click to display parts information. Click the Help icon to view information that explains what to do at a particular screen. This icon is available throughout the application. Identifying Buttons and Icons To identify a button or an icon, position the mouse pointer over the button or icon to display its label (referred to as a ToolTip). 9 Getting Help When you need assistance while using the application, click in the upper right portion of the screen. This icon is available throughout the application. Available Help topics change according to the screen currently displayed. To view the Help topics at a screen, do the following: 1. Click to open the Help window. The Help window displays information similar to the following: 2. Scroll through the questions in the left frame of the window until you find one that applies to your situation. 3. Click the question. The answer appears in the right frame. 4. When you finish viewing Help, click to close the Help window. eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005) 9

10 2. Finding Additional Information for a Part This chapter explains how display information for a part number without having to navigate to a parts page. 1. Click Part Info in the Information frame to open the Part Info dialog box. 2. Type the part number in the text box. When applicable, select a region. 3. Click. Supplier Information is displayed. If your PC is connected to a business system, click to display additional information. When is displayed after Part Number, supersession information is available for the part number. 11 3. Navigating to Parts and Service Information When you click a link, preceding the link changes to and additional links appear. Navigating to a Parts Page The following example shows how to navigate to a parts page. To navigate to a parts page: 1. Click Parts Manuals to display additional links. 2. Click Chainsaws to display additional links. 3. Click Electric Saws to display links in the right frame. 4. Click E 15 (1203) to display links to parts pages. 5. 12 4. Searching for Parts Information The Search feature allows you to enter information you already know to find parts and service information quickly. For example, you can type a part number or words from a description. You can also narrow a search by model. Using the Search Window From the button bar, click the Search button to open the Search window. When you first use Search, it defaults to the Parts Manual, as shown here. 12 eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005)

13 Specifying a Region When you open the Search window, All appears by default in the Region list box. Select a specific region for your search. For example: Specifying a Model Selecting a Model from the List Box When you open the Search window, "All Models" appears by default in the Model list box. If you want to narrow your search to a specific model, make a selection from the Model list box. For example: When necessary, use the scroll bar to scroll up and down the list until you see the model you want. Note: If you do not want to scroll through a long list of models, you can narrow the list by typing the first character of the model designation. eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005) 13

14 Using the Search For Text Box Use the Search For text box to type the specific items you are looking for. You can type a part number, part description, or remark in the box. For example: Note: Be sure to select the associated radio button in the Search In area. For example, if you type a part number, select the Part Number radio button. Using the Search In List Box Use the Search In list box to specify a parts manual, service manual, or price file search. Using the Search In Radio Buttons Use the Search In radio buttons to specify a search for a part number, remarks text, or a part description. To make a selection, select the radio button that precedes your choice. Note: Your selection must match the type of entry you typed in the Search For text box. With Part Number selected, a valid part number or partial part number (depending on your Criteria selection) must appear in the Search For text box. 14 eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005)

15 Using the Criteria List Box Option Exactly Starts With Contains Ends With Description Only entries that match exactly what you type in the Search For text box will be displayed from your search. For example, if you type 12345, only occurrences of will be displayed. Any entry that starts what you type in the Search For text box will be displayed from your search. For example, if you type 12345, not only 12345, but also 12345A could be displayed. Any entry that contains what you type in the Search For text box will be displayed from your search. For example, if you type 12345, 12345A and A12345 could be displayed. Any entry that ends with what you type in the Search For text box will be displayed from your search. 16 Example #1: Find Information for a Part Number 1. Depending on your needs, select All Models or a specific model from the Model list box. For example, select All Models. 2. Type the part number or a partial part number in the Search For text box. 3. Leave Parts Manual selected in the Search In list box. 4. Select the Part Number radio button in the Search In area. 5. Select Starts with from the Criteria list box. 6. In the Return Results number list box, select a different number only if you want to list more than the default number of 25 part records. 7. In the Return Results description list box, select a different type of description only if you want the resulting part records to display brief descriptions instead of full descriptions. 8. 18 Example #2: Search by Description 1. Depending on your needs, select All Models or a specific model from the Model list box. For example, select All Models. 2. Type the part description in the Search For text box. 3. Leave Parts Manual selected in the Search In list box. 4. Select the Description radio button from the Search In area. 5. Select Contains from the Criteria list box. 6. In the Return Results number list box, select a different number only if you want to list more than the default number of 25 part records. 7. 22 Using Parts Page Features The area under the parts diagram title allows you to page between diagrams, add your own notes, view existing notes, create a Picklist, and view an existing Picklist. Feature Previous How to Use Click Previous to display the previous diagram within a part group. Click the Up arrow icon to go back one navigation level from the current parts page. Specifically, the list of links to parts pages for the current catalog will be displayed. Next Add Note Click Next to display the next diagram within a part group. Click Add Note to attach your own note to the display. See "Creating User Notes". Click the note icon (when visible) to view any notes attached to the display. Current Picklist Select New from the list box when you want to create a new Picklist. Select the name of an existing Picklist from the list box when you want to add parts to an existing list. See "Selecting Parts for a Picklist". Click the View icon to display the selected Picklist. 22 eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005)

23 Printing a Parts Diagram and Parts List The image window displays the parts diagram. The image button bar (located above the diagram) allows you to zoom in and out and print a diagram and the parts list. For multiple-page diagrams, it allows you to page forward and back. 24 Working with Parts Text The Parts Listing lists the parts corresponding to the callouts on the parts diagram and allows you to select parts for a Picklist. Using Parts Text Display Features Item # Feature Part Number How to Use The numbers in the Item # column are callout numbers. When you click a callout from the diagram, a red square surrounds the callout and the corresponding part is highlighted in the parts text. Part numbers (in the Part Number column) are displayed as links. When you click one of these links, information for that part is displayed in the Information frame. When a supersession icon precedes a part entry, the part has supersession. See "Viewing Supersession Information" for additional information. Printing Parts Text To print parts text, do the following: 1. Right-click directly in the parts text display to open a context menu. 2. Select Print from the menu to open the Print dialog box. 3. 25 Viewing Supersession Information When a supersession icon precedes a part entry, the part number has supersession. To view supersession information, click to open the Supersession window. Feature How to Use Order Current Order Newest No Detail Cancel Check boxes Part numbers <Multiple> Click this button to add the supersession part to a Picklist. Click this button to add the newest part to a Picklist. Click this button to limit the Supersession window to the upper portion. The No Detail button changes to Detail so you can redisplay the entire window. Click this button to close the Supersession window. To add a part to a Picklist, select the check box that precedes the part number and click. Part numbers are listed from newest (top) to oldest (bottom). Clicking a part number link displays information for that part. This link indicates that multiple part numbers are included in the supersession history. Click the link to list the additional numbers in the window under Older. You can select these numbers for a Picklist. Click this icon to add all part numbers preceded by check marks to your Picklist. 26 6. Selecting Parts for a Picklist At a parts page, each part entry in the Parts Listing corresponds to a callout from the diagram. You can create a Picklist to accumulate part numbers you need for a specific job and save the list for later use. Viewing Information for a Part To view information for a part before adding it to your Picklist, click the part number link. Information is displayed in the lower left frame. To add the part to your Picklist: Type the quantity you want in the Add to Picklist text box and click. To view additional information for the part: 1. Click Detail to open the Detail Information window. Note: If your business system interface (BSI) is turned on, this window displays additional information. When some categories of information are not available, those fields will be empty in this window. 2. To add the part number to a Picklist, click. 3. To view supersession information for a part number (when available), click. 4. When you finish viewing information, click. To attach a note to the part number: 1. Click Add Note to open the New Note window. 2. Type a name for the note in the Name text box. 3. Select a distribution for the note. 4. Type your note in the Note Text box. 5. Click to attach your note to the parts page or part number. 6. Click to close the New Note window. 26 eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005)

27 Creating, Viewing, and Saving a Picklist 1. Specify the list to which you want to add parts. Click the Current Picklist list box arrow to open a list of options for creating a new list or adding parts to an existing list. If you are creating a new list, select New. If you are adding one or more parts to an existing list, select the name of the list you want to add the parts to. 2. In the Parts Listing, select the check box preceding a part number you want to add. Note: You can also select a part by clicking preceding the part entry. 3. Select any additional parts you need from this listing. 4. When you finish selecting parts, click to add the part(s) you selected to your list. The check marks are cleared and the name of your list is displayed in the Current Picklist list box. eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005) 27

28 5. To view your list, click (above the parts diagram) to open the Picklists Viewer. 6. To change a part quantity, type the new quantity in the Quantity text box following the part name. 7. To delete a part from the list: Click the X preceding the entry to display a prompt: Are you sure you want to delete from the current order? Click OK. 8. To save the list, click. 9. To print the list: Click to display the Print dialog box. Click the Print button in the dialog box. 10. To delete the list, click. Note: Keep in mind that deletes the entire Picklist, not just a single part entry. 11. Click to close the Picklists Viewer. 28 eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005)

29 7. Working with User Notes You can create your own notes and attach them to parts pages to supplement information from the OEM. This chapter explains how to create, view, and delete user notes. Creating User Notes 1. From a parts page, click Add Note to open the New Note window. 2. Type a name for the note in the Name text box. If you do not type a name, the application will assign a default name, consisting of your user name initials plus the date and time. 3. Select a distribution for the note. You can make the note viewable by internal personnel only, by everyone who uses the application, or by a dealer that you select from the list box. 4. Type your note in the Note Text box. 5. Click to attach your note to the parts page or part number. A blinking icon appears to the right of Add Note, indicating that a note is available. 6. 30 Viewing User Notes When is displayed in the top portion of parts page, at least one user note is attached to the page. When is displayed in front of a part entry, at least one user note is attached to the part number. Click to view the note. From this window you can also click to open the New Note window and create an additional note. See the previous section, Creating User Notes, for the procedure. To delete the note, click. 31 Attaching Multiple User Notes 1. Create your new note using one of the following methods. From the parts page, click Add Note, type your note in the New Note window, and click. In the Notes Viewer, click to open the New Note window, type your new note, and click. 2. Click to open the Notes Viewer with links to the notes attached to the parts page or part number. For example: 3. To view one of these notes, click the corresponding link. 4. To create an additional note, click. 5. To delete a note, click the X preceding the link. A prompt is displayed: Are you sure you want to delete this note? Click OK. 6. To close the Notes Viewer, click. eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005) 31

32 Maintaining User Notes from the Notes Screen From the button bar, click the Notes button to open the Notes screen. Links to all currently saved notes are listed by name in the left frame. When you click a link, information for that note is displayed in the right frame. The name, distribution, content, and attachment status (part number or page) are displayed in the right frame. In this example, the note is attached to part number and is available to all users. If necessary, click Next 50 >> to view additional notes. To create a new note from this screen, click to open the New Note window. 33 8. Viewing Bulletins Use the procedures in this chapter to search for a bulletin by number or description. You can narrow a search by the bulletin type and date and by model. Opening the Bulletins Window Click the Bulletins button from the button bar to open the Bulletins screen. For example: Features in the left pane of the window allow you to search for specific bulletins. 34 Listing All Bulletins Use this procedure to list all currently saved bulletins. 1. From the button bar, click the Bulletins button to open the Bulletin window. 2. Leave the Search For text box empty and select the All radio button. Note: If any information appears in the text box, delete it. 3. Set the All options from the Type, Criticality Level, and Model list boxes. 4. Click to list all current bulletins. Note: When is displayed in the Mandatory column, the bulletin is mandatory. 5. If necessary, scroll to the bottom of the list and click Next 25 > until you find the page that lists the bulletin you want. 6. 35 Searching for Bulletins Searching for a Bulletin by Number Use the following guidelines to find a bulletin by typing a bulletin number. 1. From the button bar, click the Bulletins button to open the Bulletin window. 2. Type the bulletin number in the Search For text box and select the Bulletin Number radio button. 3. If applicable, enter additional search criteria: the bulletin type, its criticality level, the applicable model, release date information, and number of bulletin records to display. Note: See "Narrowing a Bulletin Search" later in this chapter for details on using these criteria. 4. Click to list the bulletins that meet your search criteria. 5. Click the bulletin number link in the Number column to display the bulletin. Searching for a Bulletin by Description Use the following guidelines to find a bulletin by typing a bulletin description. 1. From the button bar, click the Bulletins button to open the Bulletin window. 2. Type a word from a bulletin title (scraper, for example) in the Search For text box and select the Description radio button. 3. If applicable, enter additional search criteria: the bulletin type, its criticality level, the applicable model, release date information, and number of bulletin records to display. Note: See the next section, "Narrowing a Bulletin Search", for details on using these criteria. 4. Click to list the bulletins that meet your search criteria. 5. 36 Narrowing a Bulletin Search Use any or all of the following methods to limit a search for a bulletin. Type List Box Select a type of bulletin or All Types from the Type list box. Criticality Level List Box Select a level to indicate the criticality of a bulletin: Mandatory, Not Mandatory, or All Types (all levels) for your search. Model List Box Select a model or All Models from the Model list box. 36 eservice Parts and Service User s Guide V1.2 (June 2005)

37 Released Options Select a radio button under "Released" and type the applicable date(s). To set the release date(s) for your bulletin search, select the applicable radio button and type the appropriate numbers. Anytime defines no restriction for the bulletin release date. Between allows you to set a range of bulletin release dates. Type the first date of the range in the between text box and the last date of the range in the and text box. Type dates in the format YYYY-MM-DD. For example, if you wanted to find all bulletins released between December 1, 2004 and March 1, 2005, you would type in the between text box and in the and text box. Previous _ month(s) allows you to find all bulletins released within a specific number of months prior to the current date. For example, if today s date is June 1, 2005, and you want to display all bulletins released for the year to date, type 5 in the text box (January through May). Previous _ day(s) allows you to find all bulletins released within a specific number of days prior to the current date. For example, if today is Saturday, June 18, 2005, and you want to display all bulletins released since Monday, type 5 (Monday through Friday). Return Results List Box Select a number from the Return Results list box to specify how many bulletin records you want to display at a time.
