The structure of an program head section and body section How to save the program Design a simple page on any topic of your choice Use the following tags: <body><head><title> <br> <hr> <p> <center> Save your page as web page. 2 lab periods October Chapter 4: Software & Types (application software) Formatting tags in Types and purpose of Application software: Educational software Productivity software WP and spreadsheet software Presentation software Graphics and DTP software Entertainment software Database management software Clarify the concept of application software. Expand the understanding of application software beyond word processors, electronic spreadsheets and presentation software. Introduce different types of educational, graphics and productivity software. Difference between general purpose and special purpose software. Prepare a printed search report on various kinds of general purpose application software and their uses. Also differentiate between off the shelf and bespoke software. Assessment: CAD/CAM Off the Shelf generic software and Bespoke software

4 Lab session 2: Formatting of Webpage using Creating a simple Web Page Using Document Head and Body tags students will learn the use of the following tags and their attributes <hr> Attributes: size, width, align, color <body> Attributes: bgcolor, text, leftmargin, topmargin, noshade Formatting tags <b> <i> <u> Tags, elements and attributes Make use of all tags with their specific attributes in the same page designed in the previous lab. 2 lab periods November Chapter 2 & 3: Revisited Off the shelf generic software VS Bespoke software Advantages and disadvantages of Bespoke and off the shelf software State four possible advantages of using a generic application program rather than purchasing bespoke software Lab session 3: Ordered/Unordered list in Tags to create order/unordered lists Use of <ul> and <ol> tags and their attributes Inserting headings & using Six different levels of headings with attributes. Applying background image in document body. Create a web page with the heading Technology updates. Use all the tags that you have practiced in your lab periods. Sample question: 1. Why do we use? What are tag attributes give some examples. 2. What are the steps of executing program using a text editor? 3. What attributes can be applied in the following tags? <body> <hr> <marquee> 3 lab periods

5 December Mid-Year Examination January: Chapter 2: Binary computing Representing data using numbers Introduce number system as a set of rules for representing data using numbers. Understand the denary, binary, octal, hexa decimal number systems. Understand the conversion of denary numbers to binary and vice versa. Exercise quiz on page 22 + practice handout Assessment To understand data storage in terms of bits and bytes. Lab session 4: Graphics in Adding Graphics to documents accepts two pictures file formats.gif &.Jpg. An image can be inserted into a Web page using the tag<img>, which takes the name of an image file (filename.gif or filename. Jpg) as an attribute. Design a page as image gallery covering any event of your school. 3 practical classes The<IMG> tag takes the following attributes: Align,Border, Width, Height, Hspace, Vspace

6 February: Chapter 9: Computer Networks Network formation advantages The transmission medium : Fiber optics Types of network: LAN,MAN, and WAN Servers and types Justify the need for a computer network Describe different components Of network. Describe the different types of networks based on technology. Describe different topologies. Describe intranets and extranets. Most schools have intranets. They allow staff and students to access the school network from home but control the access so that other people cannot get onto the school system. Find out if your school has such a system. If it has, what is it used for? How can the use be expanded? Assessment Inserting tables in Lab session 5 : Tables in Working with Tables The tag for creating a table: <table>. </table> <tr> and <td> tags: Colspan, Rowspan Attributes of table tag: Align : Values possible are left right center Border: Specifies the width of the border to be drawn around all table cells. Values possible are 1, 2, 3 and so on. Cell Padding: The space between the content and inside edge of the cell. Values possible are 1, 2, 3 and so on. Cell Spacing: The amount of space between cells in a table. Values can be 1, 2, 3 and so on. Width: Used to specify the width of the table. Design a user s bio data using <table> tag with appropriate attributes. 3 practical classes March: Chapter10: Internet & World Wide Web The features of World Wide Web Internet browsers Tools for finding information on the Web Downloading and uploading To differentiate between the Internet and World Wide Web. To understand the features of websites. To describe the function and features of browsers, URLs, Favorites folder, History folder. Activity Search for information on Bookmark the web pages that are most interesting Download and save the most valuable points to your system. Read the contents and write a page on Word document Make a printed report.

7 Lab session 6 : Creating External Links Links are specified in using the <a> tag. The <a> tag can be used in two ways: 1. To create a link to another document, by using the href attribute 2. To create a bookmark inside a document, by using the name attribute. The href attribute specifies the destination of a link. <a href="url">link text</a> Design 4 pages on any topic of your choice and use external links techniques on each page to jump from one page to another.
