Spring CS Homework 8 p. 1 Deadline Due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 1, Purpose CS Homework 8 To give you more practice with PHP and sessions, including using PHP and sessions to interact from the application tier with the client tier AND to interact from the application tier with the data tier. How to submit Each time you wish to submit, submit your homework files using ~st10/328submit on nrsprojects, with a homework number of 8. Important notes NOTE: you are welcome to use require_once and include_once in your PHP documents! BUT when you use them in problems' documents, be sure to also SUBMIT copies of all files that you are requiring/including! DO NOT USE ANY PHP FRAMEWORKS FOR THESE PROBLEMS -- one of this course's purposes is to provide you with practice with "plain" PHP. You are required to use normalize.css for all of your web pages for CS 328. EXCEPT for normalize.css, DO NOT USE ANY CSS FRAMEWORKS or PREDEFINED LIBRARIES FOR THIS HOMEWORK (or for this course unless you get prior, explicit permission). One of this homework's purposes is to provide you with some practice with the basics of "plain" CSS3. Note: you may be presenting versions of some of these documents/applications to the class at some point. You are expected to follow all course coding standards posted on the public course web site; course documents are also expected to validate as "strict"-style HTML5, and valid CSS3. Make sure that you have executed the scripts create-bks.sql and pop-bks.sql, and that the bookstore tables are successfully created and populated. Problem 1 FIRST: Note the there is an example solution for the Week 9 Lab Exercise's dept-details.php and associated functions on the course Canvas site, under "Selected solutions". You should carefully read over this, and consider how it compares to what your pair did for this lab exercise. Consider Homework 7 - Problem 3's need-order.php. You might recall that this problem mentioned that this might be modified for a future homework to actually populate its ISBN select element on the application tier, querying for the ISBNs and looping through the results to build this

Spring CS Homework 8 p. 2 element. Now that we have sessions, it is time to do this. SO - For this problem, create a new version of this named need-order-hw8.php, styled using bks.css, which meets the following specifications: This document should be one of those that can generate all three of this little application's pages, depending on the keys that exist in the $_SESSION array when it is reached. You are expected to structure this as was done for try-trio.php and dept-details.php, with an if-elseif-...else structure that calls external PHP helper functions to handle each page of this little application. (and additional helper functions/require files are encouraged, also! Just be sure to submit all of the files used in your resulting application.) I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIRST WRITE need-order-hw8.php with STUB PHP functions for each of its pages, as we did in class for try-trio.php and in the Week 9 Lab Exercise for dept-details.php!...and MAKE SURE it runs with just those stub functions,...and MAKE SURE it still runs with EACH function AS you replace its stub with actual working code! need-order-hw8.php should include your name and last modified date in its opening comment, AND the URL this can be run from. It will be an automatic -10 penalty on this homework if this URL does not display this page when I/the grader attempt to use it in a browser. Each page that this document generates should include, in its body element, your name, CS 328, and the name of your bookstore from previous homeworks' bks-start.html. Its initial form, for THIS Homework 8 version, should require that the user enter JUST an Oracle username and password. The action for this initial login form, when submitted, is to use the login-form-provided information to build a choose-isbn-form including a dynamically-populated drop-down box of ISBN's-andtitles for the user to choose from, BUT note: the drop-down should DISPLAY to the user, for each option, an ISBN and its title, BUT! the value submitted to the application tier for each option should be JUST the ISBN for that option. (ASK ME, preferably EARLY in the week, if you are not sure what I mean by this!)...and this form should also include a way for the user to enter the desired order quantity for the suggested order-needed. The action for that choose-isbn-form, when submitted, is to use the choose-isbn-form-provided information and appropriate session attributes to update the order_needed table as specified;...and, for this homework, this is considered to be the end of this logical session. Further requirements for the handling-a-submitted-isbn-and-desired-order-quantity part:

Spring CS Homework 8 p. 3 You are required to call Homework 4, Problem 6's PL/SQL stored procedure insert_order_needed (an example version of which is available on the course Moodle site under "Selected solutions" if you have any qualms about your version) Make sure that you use bind variables appropriately for the desired ISBN and desired quantity in your stored procedure call -- and since neither of these should legitimately contain HTML tags, you can reasonably strip any that someone attempts to include. Make sure you commit the result! Also display a descriptive message describing the order-needed insertion in a readable/reasonably attractive way. The response page to the isbn-and-desired-quantity form should also include a hypertext link with appropriate text that links back to need-order-hw8.php (which should result in the login form being displayed, since the logical session is considered to be ended). Submit your need-order-hw8.php and all files it requires. Problem 2 Now: Consider Homework 7 - Problem 4's isbn-status.php. You might recall that this problem also mentioned that this might be modified for a future homework to actually populate its ISBN select element on the application tier, querying for the ISBNs and looping through the results to build this element. Now that we have sessions, it is time to do this, also. SO - For this problem, create a new version of this named isbn-status-hw8.php, styled using bks.css, which meets the following specifications: This document should be also one of those that can generate all three of this little application's pages, depending on the keys that exist in the $_SESSION array when it is reached. You are again expected to structure this as was done for try-trio.php and deptdetails.php, with an if-elseif-...else structure that calls external PHP helper functions to handle each page of this little application. (and additional helper functions/require files are encouraged, also! Just be sure to submit all of the files used in your resulting application.) I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIRST WRITE isbn-status-hw8.php with STUB PHP functions for each of its pages, as we did in class for try-trio.php and in the Week 9 Lab Exercise for dept-details.php!...and MAKE SURE it runs with just those stub functions,...and MAKE SURE it still runs with EACH function AS you replace its stub with actual working code! isbn-status-hw8.php should include your name and last modified date in its opening comment, AND the URL this can be run from. It will be an automatic -10 penalty on this homework if this URL does not display this page

Spring CS Homework 8 p. 4 when I/the grader attempt to use it in a browser. Each page that this document generates should include, in its body element, your name, CS 328, and the name of your bookstore from bks-start.html. Its initial form, for THIS Homework 8 version, should require that the user enter JUST an Oracle username and password. The action for this initial login form, when submitted, is to use the login-form-provided information to build a choose-isbn-form including a dynamically-populated drop-down box of ISBN's-andtitles for the user to choose from, BUT again note: the drop-down should DISPLAY to the user, for each option, an ISBN and its title, BUT! the value submitted to the application tier for each option should be JUST the ISBN for that option. (ASK ME, preferably EARLY in the week, if you are not sure what I mean by this!) The action for that choose-isbn-form, when submitted, is to use the choose-isbn-form-provided information and appropriate session attributes to call Homework 3 - Problem 5's is_on_order, and Homework 4 - Problem 7's pending_order_needed (example versions of which are available on the course Moodle site under "Selected solutions" if you have any qualms about your versions)...and call these each as the ARGUMENT to Homework 2, Problem 1's function bool_to_string, so you'll get a string result that our oci_bind_by_name can handle! Include descriptive output indicating, based on what the stored functions return, whether or not this ISBN is currently on order or not, and whether or not this ISBN currently has any pending, not-yet-acted-upon order_needed rows....and, for this homework, this is considered to be the end of this logical session. Further requirements for the handling-a-submitted-isbn part: Make sure that you use bind variables appropriately for the desired ISBN in EACH of your stored function calls -- and since neither of these should legitimately contain HTML tags, you can reasonably strip any that someone attempts to include. The response page to the choose-isbn-form should also include a hypertext link with appropriate text that links back to isbn-status-hw8.php (which should result in the login form being displayed, since the logical session is considered to be ended). Submit your isbn-status-hw8.php and all files it requires. Problem 3 Consider "your" database. Decide on a useful action for someone in its scenario that would involve dynamically querying and creating a form control based on that database, and then letting the user do something useful based on what they choose from that form.

Spring CS Homework 8 p. 5 Make a new copy of your custom.css, just in case you decide to modify it for this problem (since you do NOT want to do anything that would "mess up" previous homeworks' problems making use of earlier versions of custom.css). For Homework 8, create PHP document custom-session1.php, styled using custom.css, which meets the following specifications: This document should be also one of those that can generate all three of this little application's pages, depending on the keys that exist in the $_SESSION array when it is reached. You are again expected to structure this as was done for try-trio.php and deptdetails.php, with an if-elseif-...else structure that calls external PHP helper functions to handle each page of this little application. (and additional helper functions/require files are encouraged, also! Just be sure to submit all of the files used in your resulting application.) I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIRST WRITE custom-session1.php with STUB PHP functions for each of its pages, as we did in class for try-trio.php and in the Week 9 Lab Exercise for dept-details.php!...and MAKE SURE it runs with just those stub functions,...and MAKE SURE it still runs with EACH function AS you replace its stub with actual working code! custom-session1.php should include your name and last modified date in its opening comment, AND the URL this can be run from. It will be an automatic -10 penalty on this homework if this URL does not display this page when I/the grader attempt to use it in a browser. Each page that this document generates should include, in its body element, your name, CS 328, and the name of "your" database's scenario. Each page that this document generates should be styled using normalize.css and your Homework 8 version of custom.css. If you need more formatting for custom-session1.php, EITHER: IF you think these changes might ALSO be useful for FUTURE documents, modify your custom.css accordingly, OR ALSO make a custom-session1.css that you add using a link element placed AFTER those for normalize.css and custom.css in the head element of customsession1.php. Its initial form should require that the user enter JUST an Oracle username and password. The action for this initial login form, when submitted, is to use the login-form-provided information to dynamically-populate-and-build a form control within a resulting form for the user to respond to (along with other appropriate form controls for your situation).

Spring CS Homework 8 p. 6 this could be a drop-down box; it could also be some other form control (for example, checkboxes, or radio buttons, or anything where dynamic information from the database would be useful in completing that form control) The action for that form-with-a-dynamically-populated-part, when submitted, is to use the formprovided information and appropriate session attributes to do some action useful to the user,...and, for this homework, this is considered to be the end of this logical session. Further requirements for the handling-that-form-with-a-dynamically-populated-part: If at ALL possible, use bind variables appropriately for including the user-provided information in your requested data tier action. (There ARE some actions you can't use bind variables for -- ASK ME ask early in the week as possible if you think you might be in this situation!) be sure to sanitize AND/OR carefully/appropriately handle the information entered by the users! The response page to the form-with-a-dynamically-populated-part should also include a hypertext link with appropriate text that links back to custom-session1.php (which should result in the login form being displayed, since the logical session is considered to be ended). Submit your custom-session1.php and all files it requires.
