While I do have an advanced degree in education, my 40 plus years working with people and computers are probably more important in the long run. I love to help people and am building a network and Internet marketing team. 4 Create Print on Demand Designs on Your Phone Using WordSwag INTRODUCTION By Dr. Hale Pringle 10/18 V1.0 Creating or obtaining a PNG to upload to a Print on Demand (POD) company is one of the required steps when you want to create a POD product. There are several ways to do this. Some you can do yourself (with some skill) and some involve outsourcing your concept to a skilled graphic designer. While it is limited to text designs (with a few minor exceptions) there is a $5 app that runs on smart phones that can create very professional looking designs and anyone can use the tool. IS TEXT ENOGUGH? Is text enough? is a question that often is asked when people are just starting in the POD industry. The answer is ABSOLUTELY! There is one trainer who has created thousands of text only designs, placed them on Amazon and makes six figures most months of the year. Here is one example. I searched for funny mugs for women and 28 of the top 40 sellers were text only designs. 6 This is a free sales page on Gearbubble.com. There is a unique URL that can be used to send traffic to this page. When someone clicks the BUY IT NOW button and buys the product, Gearbubble collects the money, creates the mug, ships it to the customer and saves the shipping tracking code in case there are issues. Within a few hours they make the sale price minus the cost of the mug and their profit available to you. Note: While this image has a black circle on it, most images will just have the text. PREPARATION Install the app WordSwag on yout snart phone. It will be in the Goolge Play Store for Android and the ITunes Store on IPhones. It will cost you about $5. 7 STEPS TO CREATE A TEXT BASED PRODUCT WITH WORDSWAG STEP 1 RESEARCH AND IDENTIFY A QUOTE TO PUT ON YOUR PRODUCT. Find a quote that you have social proof that people like, preferably proof that they are buying products with the quote. I have other documents that go into more detail, but here are some sites where you can obtain social proof. Amazon is one source they show products with the best sellers first. Pinterest (using a tool called SortingSocial.com) is another source. We can t count purchases on Pinterest, but we can see quotes and products that thousands of people have shared with their own followers. Gearbubble.com - navigate to the site, do not log in. The CATEGORIES menu show some of the top sellers. Teespring.com - navigate to the site, do not log in. Click on the APPAREL menu option and look at sub-categories that match your niche. Hallmark.com we don t get social proof here, but their cards are vetted by professionals who have developed an eye for what sells. Since about half of the greating card rack space in 11,000 Walmarts is made up of Hallmark cards, you can bet that they fill that space with items that sell. 8 NOTE: Do not bypass this step and create designs that you think will sell well. In virtually all cases, marketers are terrible judges of what the people in a niche will buy. You should also note that you have a wide variety of products that you can place your quote on. The same quote rarely works on all kinds of products. For example, necklaces usually have mushy sayings on them. Shirts and Hoodies often have funny sayings or this is important to me sayings on them. Now we are ready for WordSwag. STEP 3 START THE WORDSWAG AP A Sample Screen showing the WordSwag Icon #1 This is the Word Swag Icon on your phone. 10 #1 - There are two black icons at the bottom of the screen. Click on the one on the right. STEP 4 CHOOSE TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND You will see this screen. It will show you several backgrounds and allow you to search a site fill of public domain images for other backgrounds. In almost all cases we don t want a background. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 10

12 #2 Click on TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND. That is what we want. You will see a pop-up screen that tells you that your images will have a transparent background. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 12

13 #1 This message tells you that you will have a transparent background. That is definitely what we want. #2 Click on OKAY ot close this little screen. The next screen you see will tell you how to enter your quote. STEP 5 ENTER YOUR QUOTE Edit Screen #1 The checkerboard pattern is the part of your image that will be Dr. Hale Pringle Page 13

14 transparent. #2 Double Tap (with your finger) this area to bring up the edit screen. This screen is where you erase the existing quote and enter your own. Edit Your Quote #1 You want this to be on CUSTOM Dr. Hale Pringle Page 14

15 #2 There are quotes already loaded here. Remember what I said about using quotes that you have some proof that they will sell. You have no proof here, just your judgment and that is faulty. #3 You will need to erase the existing quote (It starts with Double Tap ME TO Change Text ) #4 Click on the SAVE & CLOSE Now you will see your text. It is being displayed using STYLE 1 and the first version of STYLE 1. STEP 6 GO THROUGH STYLES AND CLICK THE DICE UNTIL YOU FIND A GOOD IMAGE Note; You will probably go through quite a few STYLES and options with each style. 16 STYLE 1 SQUARE NOTE #1 Here is our text. #2 You can resize by putting two fingers on the screen and moving the closer together or further apart. You can also drag the text around the visible area using your finger. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 16

17 #3 The STYLE without a box around it is the active style #4 Across the bottom of the screen are the numbers 1 through 5. Here is another version of STYLE 1. Note that Style 1 is a solid rectangle with text inside the rectangle. It is one of the few that supplies its own background. 18 I didn t click on the number 2 at the bottom of the screen. #2 Clicking on this pair of dice will give you a different version of the style. This is why I usually click on. I might click on it 30 or 40 times if I have looking for something special. In this case I would like Print on Demand to be the same size text preferably on one line and I want the A to Z on one line. 23 STEP 8 SHARE THE DARK IMAGE #1 Click on the SHARE link You will see a number of options (many ot which don t actually have SHARE options.) Dropbox is one of the options. That is the one I will use. Note; that you can use Gmail here. Recently the SHARE to Dropbox hasn t been working the way it Dr. Hale Pringle Page 23

24 sued to, so I go to the Gallery on my phone, check mark all the images I just saved and SHARE them to a folder in Dropbox. hat kind of sharing doesn t involve WordSwag at all. Sharing Options Dr. Hale Pringle Page 24

25 #1 I click on Dropbox Dropbox Options #1 Pick a dropbox if you have more than one. #2 There is an ADD button below (not shown). Use that to connect dropbox accounts to WordSwag. File Manger Screen Not Shown A standard File Manager window opens. Navigate to the folder you plan ot move the images into and click SAVE. 26 Share Screen Clicking on BACK now You will be back to the Image you just saved. Now we are going to change the color and save it again. White images/text work well on dark shirts, hoodies, mugs and even necklaces. Black images/text works well on White Mugs and shirts. Some POD companies have etched glass products and grey is a good color for that. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 26

28 #1 Click on the COLOR icon #2 The BLACK color was selected when they screen started. I changed that to WHITE before I took the screenshot. #3 - The WHITE color is selected. #4 = In this case the circle change to white and the text changed to black so you could see ti against the white background. #5 Click on Save Go through the same SAVE and SHARE options we did in STEP 8. STEP 10 (Optional) SAVE AND SHARE THE GREY IMAGE. This is just like STEP 9, except you choose the color GREY. STEP 11 LOOK FOR A BETTER STYLE. Where we have the color button clicked, change back to the Style icon. Click on different style names and roll the dice. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 28

29 GEARBUBBLE.COM Now we will leave WordSwag and demonstrate how to take the image files you just created and upload them to a Print On Demand company website. If you navigate to Gearbubble.com, the steps to create a free account are easy and straight forward. When you log in, you will see your DASHBOARD by default. STEP 12 UPLOAD YOUR IMAGE TO A POD COMPANY SITE Dashboard #1 If you want to return to the DASHBOARD at any time, click on the Dr. Hale Pringle Page 29

30 Gearbubble icon in the upper left corner of most screens. #2 To create a product, click on the green LAUNCH CAMPAIGN button and then #3 - Click on TRADITIONAL. 32 Resize and Reposition the Graphic #1 Click on the little box and drag to resize the image. It will almost always appear small. #2 You can DELETE the image if you uploaded the wrong one. #3 By default the image will automatically center itself. Sometimes, you didn t save a well centered image. You can turn off the automatic Snap to Center option and that will allow you to manually center you graphic. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 32

33 More Options on Screen #1 #1 For the mugs, this drop down lets you choose metallic and color changing. Most products don t have an option here. They just have #2. #2 For the mugs, you can launch two different sizes at the same time. (and there isn t any good reason not to do so). Click on the ADD OTHER STYLE link and the options available will appear. (In this case there is only one.) Click on the option you want very quickly. For shirts there are quite a number of options. I wouldn t recommend more Dr. Hale Pringle Page 33

34 than four at any time. The system tends to time out if you have any slowness in the Internet connection as you go to the next screens. Also if you ever send the product to Etsy, they won t take more than 4 styles and 3 colors or 3 styles and 4 colors. #3 Here you can choose a color. For mugs, you can choose white OR black. For shirts you can choose a color AND another color AND another color. #4 You can change the price here. I usually do that on the next page. Here you can only change the first style. On the next page you can change all of the styles that you have chosen. #5 One of the advantages of Gearbubble is that you can create Customized or Personalized mugs. You do this by clicking on of the options here. One option let you place a blank image on your product. The customer uploads their own picture to replace the blank image. The other option lets you put one or more lines of text on your product. Again, the customer replaces these lines with their only lines. (I like the ULTRA font. There is a very similar font in more image editors.) The reason that these options are an advantage is that you can charge more for customized mugs. #6 You have the option to automatically put a copy of you design on the back of the mug. Just click this check box. #7 You can choose to see the front or the back of your product here. #8 You can see that we are looking at the back of this mug since the handle is on the right instead of the left. I always check the back to make sure everything is okay. Complex images can foul up one time is a hundred or so. That shouldn t happen with your simple text designs. #9 Click on the green NEXT STEP button The second screen has more information for you to fill in. There is a third screen, but it has very ltttle that you need to fill in. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 34

36 #1 This is be a long keyword rich title. I usually use the saying on the mug. Later you will probably have integrations with Amazon or Etsy or ebay and these titles become a critical part of people finding your products. Try to think of what people might use as search terms if they wanted to find a mug (or shirt or necklace) like yours. Note that some phrases are so saturated that they are just about useless (e.g. Valentine s Day Gift.) Try for something more specific, perhaps Funny Valentine s Day Gift for a Super Mom Include the type or product (e.g. ceramic mug) as part of the title. BTW. If you title doesn t contain a critical search word, be sure to include it. For example if the mug was about dogs, I would be sure to put the word dog in the title line somewhere, even if the quote didn t have that word in it. #2 I put for things into the product description if I am going to advertize it. Many mugs are just there to be upsells for a more expensive product (a Hoodie or a necklace) and I don t bother doing much here. #2 Ask a question = e.g Do you REALLY LOVE your dog? #3 Answer the question e.g. If you do, this mug will make you smile every time you pick to up! Buy one today. #4 - I copy/paste this message: IMPORTANT: We provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee - a full refund is available if you're not completely satisfied. #4a - I copy/paste this message: Worldwide Shipping NOTE: I user Evernote and put my Question / Answer into a note so that I don t have to type it out again when I create the upsell product. That note also has the colored text for #3 and #4 above. You can t recate those colors in the Gearbubble Editor. #5 If there is an appropriate category in the drop down, I choose it. #6 If I am going to put the product on Amazon or Etsy or ebay or if I am going to advertise it, I will fill in some tags These are keywords That help the search engines find your product. 37 #7 I often change this to 10:00 PM That way at around midnight my money becomes available to me. # 8 - This is a short unique set of words that will be added to Gearbubble.com to create the unique URL for your sales page. #9 This were you can edit the price. #10 This is for the second version of the mug. #11 You must check the box to agree to the terms of service. #12 Click on the green NEXT STEP button. 38 Note: There is a more detailed document That goes into a little more detail here. I do use some codes in the URL field to help with Facebook advertizing and fill in Facebook Pixel information in a place that requires me to click on one of the dropdown menus on Screen #3 You will now go back to the DASHBOARD and your new product will be in the list. While the product is launched you should do some more work before you stop working on this product. Updated Dashboard #1 Here is your product. Hove the mouse over it to see the back. 39 #2 Click on this link ot see the Sales Page. #3 Click on the SETTINGS Button to finish the product setup. LEAD GENERATION CONNECTING TO AN AUTORESPONDER #1 You will see this screen. The first step is to connect your product to an list. This is covered in detail in another document #2 You would click the green NEXT STEP button to choose an autoresponcer company and a list that should be updated with a new customer address when the customer purchases this product. You will have different lists for different niches. The next section is where you put your Facebook tracking pixel. You REALLY need to do this if you are going to advertise on Facebook. 40 Facebook and Google Tracking Pixels #1 Click on the blue TRACKING PIXELS button. #2 Click on the little icon on the right. #3 the Facebook area opens up and you can paste your Facebook pixel here. #4 Click on the green UPDATE button. If everything went okay you will see a green bar across the top of the screen. If there was a problem the bar will be red. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 40

41 I almost always want to have an upsell. For shirts I use a mug. For mugs I use the corresponding shirt or maybe a black mug. You will need to launch that product before you can add it as an upsell. The reason the upsell is important is that you have someone who just paid money for THIS product. They are the most likely to want to buy something similar and it does not cost you one penny to show them something. All the advertising has already been spent to get them to the original sales page. Upsell Screen #1 Click on the blue UPSELL BUTTON. You will see this screen. #2 Click on the NO to make it a YES (You won t ever click the green button) You will see a list of products. Find the one you want to offer as an upsell as part of the check out process. Usually it will the one of the very first products offered. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 41

42 Select the Upsell Product #1 Here is the black mug I created to be the upsell. #2 Click on the green button underneath it and it will change to the Dr. Hale Pringle Page 42

43 blue SELECTED button. #3. Turn the Discount on #4 I use 10 or 20 percent. There is NO advertising cost and even if I make a dollar or two, it is free money. #5 Click the gree UPDATE button and look for the green bar at the top of the screen. Sometimes you might like to have a link that includes an automatic discount (customers find this much easier than remembering a discount coupon name). Or you might want a url that shows the black mug. Or when you are doing shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, you might want to show the sweatshirt or perhaps the gree tee shirt. Gearbubble has a screen that lets you select what you want and it will create the URL for you. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 43

44 SPECIAL URL GENERATION #1 - Click on the URL GENEORATOR Button (you had to click on the MORE button on the previous screen to get here). #2 Choose the options you want (you need to enter the discount codes in another place. The Gearbubble help will show you how to do that.) #3 Click on the little clipboard icon. You special link will be in the clipboard. #4 You can return to the DASHBOARD by clicking this icon. 45 While there is a RELATED PRODUCTS option, we usually don t use this. It just gives the customers more decisions to make and it seems to actually cause a significant number to stop the process. The one time I do use RELATED PRODUCTS is when I have a product for a son and the same product for a daughter and one for mom, etc. I can tell people in my ads that these other options are available. Other Options #1 I m not going to show this screen, but it allows you to edit the description, the title, the tags and more for an existing product. You cannot add a new style or color or remove one. #2 Note if you need to stop a campaign (maybe you found a typo), you need to Dr. Hale Pringle Page 45

46 Click the END button Click on the Settings button Click the OTHER button Click on General Settings Click off the EVERGREEN check box Click on UPDATE Click off the Auto relaunch check box Click on UPDATE again. Now the campaign is stopped and it will not restart again at midnight. #3 Click this for some advertising images / mockups Ad Images Screen #1 Click on the blue CHOSE NEW IMAGE button #2 Chose the 1200 x 1200 (sometimes you might need the 1200 x 628 for Facebook advertising. 47 You will see this screen NOTE: Be careful to select the correct product mockup. Here they show the metallic and the black and the white mugs. Don t select a black mug image for your white mug. Ad Image Options #1 Click on the one you want. You will return to the previous page, except the image will be the one your just selected with your text on it. If you plan to do Amazon, save several of these. Amazon likes LOTS of pictures. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 47

48 Selected Mockup Ad Image #1 This is the mockup you selected #2 Right click and SAVE IMAGE AS. There is a download button, but you can ignore it. All it does is show the image on a separate page and you still have to right click Save Image as. The image is exactly the same size as the one you get if you save it here. Note. You should have a NICHE FOLDER and under that a FOLDER OFR EACH PRODUCT and perhaps some folders under that. Save these advertising images there so that you can find them later. I like to rename them with size and color included in the name, otherwise they are all front.png and front(1).png. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 48

50 The Final Product Link to the SALES PAGE #1 this is the dashboard. Find the product you want (there is a search bar on the right) and click on the link to see the sales page for that product. The Sales Page Dr. Hale Pringle Page 50

51 #1 This is the URL that you will use when you create Facebook ads or create Pinterest Pins, create Facebook posts or any other place when you want to send potential customers to a place where they can buy your product. #2 This is the TITLE we entered on Screen #2 when we launched the campaign. #3 This is the question in the DESCRIPTION we filled in on Screen #2 #4 This is the answer in the DESCRIPTION we filled in on Screen #2 #5 These are any other special instructions we filled in on Screen #2 #6 This is where the customer can choose among the styles we are offering. For the mug, the styles are only two sizes. For shirts, this might contains hoodies, sweatshirts, tank-tops, and more. There will also be color options here for shirts. #7 This is the BUY NOW button. If the product they chose has options, like sizes, they will be give the chance to choose those here. They can also indicate that they want to buy more than one. #8 The customer can look at the front and the back of the product here. If your product is customizable, the customer will be instructed to upload an image and/or fill in one or more lines of text. Dr. Hale Pringle Page 51

52 REVENUE and SHIPPING COST FOR ALL THE TYPES OF PRODUCTS THAT Gearbubble SELLS. #1 These buttons will show you the shipping fees for each product and the profit for each product. You will have different icons in this row. #2 If you need a website for any of the things you want to, you can create a free Store here. The process is a simple as this. Click on a button to create a new store Pick a layout (with a header image or without) Give the store a name Enter a unique URL name ( URL>) Choose all of the categories of products you want to sell in the store. (For example, you might not want to do phone cases.) You will see all of your products. Click on the ones you want to add to this store, choose their category (e.g. mugs will go into a Dr. Hale Pringle Page 52

53 category called mugs ) Note: I put all of the apparel into one category since often when you launch a tee shirt campaign, you also choose to have hoodies, sweatshirts and tank-tops. You can have as many stores as you want for free. CONCLUSION That is it for creating a product you can sell. There is more however.
