1 Medical-Treatment Dictionary How to Navigate the Dictionary Contact Species360 Support To get to the Medical-Treatment Dictionary go to the Start Button in ZIMS (1)-Then Medical (2)-Dictionary (3)- Treatment Dictionary (4) and click Treatment Dictionary

2 Once the Dictionary opens you have lots of choices for searching, This is the simple Search View that first opens. 1. Search Bar at the top if you know the exact Term 2. By using the Search Scope box you can Filter (narrow) the term to Global records or Local Records (in Institution) of terms 3. Name: A filter for Searching the by Drug/Ingredients/Brand 4. Active Ingredient: You can use this box to search by an Ingredient in the drug 5. Dictionary Item Type: This allows you to search by Type of Drug it is used as-in this case Pharmaceutical Drug, Vaccine 6. Search-when you are ready then click search

3 For the Advanced Search View there are many more filters that can be used to help you narrow your search, you can use as many or as few of the filters to help you find what you are looking for: 1. Search Scope-Again Global or Local scope 2. Name: A filter for Searching the by Drug/Ingredients/Brand 3. Active Ingredient: You can use this box to search by an Ingredient in the drug 4. Dictionary Item Type: This allows you to search by Type of Drug it is used as-in this case Pharmaceutical Drug, Vaccine 5. Category: What is the Category of the Drug 6. Manufacturer: Who manufactures the drug 7. Intended Route: How the drug is delivered 8. Form of Drug: What form does the drug come in 9. Obsolete: any treatment that is marked no longer marked active 10. Search: when the filters are all checked and filled out for what you wish, click search

4 Next to all the Filters is a small magnifying glass Icon-That is your look up item within this Field button By clicking it a pop up box will bring up a search box limited to that Item. In this case Active Ingredients. Here is the pop-up window for searching within Active Ingredients:

5 1. Name-Search by Ingredient Name 2. Language: You can choose to search by Language 3. You can narrow the scope in Dictionary Item Type- 4. Then clicking the down arrow and checking a box or boxes for the types you think it may be 1. Under Dictionary Item Category you can click the down arrow there and it will also create a 2. Drop down list that will allow you to narrow the scope of your search-next to the categories there may be a little + sign. By clicking the + that will expand that category further

6 The next Filter is ATC Code-You can filter by adding an ATC code here as well as clicking the Include Obsolete Records box which will bring things up that have been marked as Obsolete If you want to just do a general search of all items- Do not fill in any fields and just 1. Click search

7 It will bring up the full search of all Items in the dictionary alphabetically. Notice the blue box with the arrow. The box is telling you that it is returning more than 500 search results. Just click okay to make it disappear or narrow your search scope by using filters.

8 If you have a new term you wish to add to the dictionary or a term that is frequently used by your institution, you can add that term to the dictionary here at the Add New button at the top of the page.

9 When the Add New Button is clicked a drop down box appears asking showing you the different areas that you can add your Treatment Terms to. This will greatly help you decide where in the dictionary it should be placed. To add once you decide where it should be just follow the directions in each module and click save at the end. Your treatment will now be added to the list in your local view.

10 BEST PRACTICES: All formulations entered by users are visible and shared by the entire community you should take great care to enter things correctly because mistakes will be seen by everyone. We would like emphasize that when a user finds an error in a formulation entered by another institution, the correct response is to contact that institution with a request to fix the formulation adding that same formulation with a slightly different spelling is not a good solution because that just adds additional confusion for the rest of the community. It also makes it more difficult for us to promote a formulation to a global level entry when there are competing entries. For this to work item it is important that institutions take the time to fix their errors when another institution makes the request is paramount in making this good clean data.
