1 Stretching and Flexibility Manual Installation Instructions WINDOWS Put the CD-ROM into your computer s CD-ROM drive. 2. In File Manager, click on the CD-ROM icon. 3. Double-click on the SETUP.EXE program on the CD-ROM. 4. Install the full setup in C:\STRETCH. 5. Allow the setup to build the Program Manager files. 6. If you have installed video drivers go to step 9. If you have not, go to step Open the WIN 31 directory from File Manager and double-click on the file to install video drivers. 8. Shut down Windows and restart. 9. In program Manager, double click on the STRETCHING Group and then double click on the STRETCHING AND FLEXIBILITY icon. If the following message is displayed it means that the video drivers are not installed; mmsystem006 no driver installed on your system. To install the drivers go to step 7 WINDOWS 95/NT/98 1. Put the CD-ROM into your computer s CD-ROM drive. 2. Set up the program in any drive:\stretch 3. Choose full setup 4. To start the program, take the CD-ROM out then put it back in OR click on the STRETCHING & FLEXIBILITY icon in the STRETCHING group in START PROGRAMS. 5. Allow the setup to build the Program Manager files. 6. If you have installed video drivers, go to step 9. If you have not, go to step Open the WIN 95_NT directory from the File Manager and double-click on the file to install video drivers. 8. Shut down Windows and restart. 9. In Program Manager, double-click on the STRETCHING AND FLEXIBILITY icon in the STRETCHING AND FLEXIBILITY group under Programs in the START menu. If the following message is displayed it means that the video drivers are not installed; mmtaskmanager201 error. To install the drivers go to step 7.

2 Cover Screen Each time you start up the Stretching and Flexibility CD-ROM you will first see the cover screen. In the bottom right section there are three icons you can click on with the mouse. The first icon is an arrow, clicking on it will take you directly to the Main Menu. The second icon is a circle with a silhouetted jogging figure; this is the logo for Savvy Knowledge Systems Corporations. If you click on the logo the computer will display Savvy s philosophy and mission statement. In the bottom right corner of the Savvy screen there are two icons. The arrow will take you directly to the Main Menu and the icon that says Cover Screen, it will take you to that location when clicked on. The Warning button explains the risks and necessary precautions that are connected to any exercise program. Please read the warning and if you have any questions discuss them with a qualified fitness expert before beginning. Remember, this database is not meant to take the place of a qualified professional. Main Menu The section on the left side is titled Education. Beneath the title is a box with a list of topics in it. The topics listed provide basic information about stretching and fitness. Attached to the right of the box is a scroll bar. To scroll through the list click on either the up or down arrow to move in the desired direction. To view one of the topics in the Education list just click on it once with the mouse. The program will automatically take you to that topic and begin to play the video. The right side of the Main Menu displays two rows of colored bars containing the name of their subject. Database/Utility contains Stretches, which takes you directly into the stretching database, as well as other categories related to the program. Database Indexes provides several methods to find stretches according to your particular needs. Clicking on any of the buttons will take you to the corresponding section of the program. There are also icons along the bottom of the Main Menu. The pictures on the icons correspond with those in the right hand column and will display the same information when clicked on. As you point to each icon the name will appear in the area just below the red Quit button. In the bottom right corner of the Main Menu there are three more icons, they represent the Glossary, Help, and Main Menu functions. The glossary contains a list of all the major terms used in this program. The Help icon appears on every screen in the program, when clicked on it displays some of the information for that part of the program you are viewing.

3 Menu Bar The Menu Bar appears across the top of every screen no matter where you are in the program. File contains the Quit function for the program, which can also be found in the Main Menu. Education contains the same topics listed on the Main Menu under this heading. The Database Access category lists four of the topics under Database Indexes on the Main Menu. The Navigation category enables you to move through the stretching database. Within Navigation are several subcategories including Help Stretching Database, this displays a screen listing all the different symbols you will encounter for the stretching database and explains what each means. The next category on the Menu Bar is Setup it lists other aspects relating to the program. The final section is the online Help, it contains help topics for all the categories listed in the Main Menu and Menu Bar. Glossary On the Glossary screen there is a box to display the definition of the word of phrase chosen. Above the definition box the word or phrase being defined is listed. Below the definition box is a drop list containing all the words in the glossary. Click on the arrow to display the list. Click on the term in the list that you wish to read about. The top box will now display the term you have chosen and the definition for it will appear in the definition box. In the bottom left corner of the glossary screen are three icons. The first icon lets you enter the term you wish to search for. If you click on the icon a screen will appear asking you to enter your search term. You have the choice of searching for your term in the title or in the definition. Click to place an X in the appropriate box for the search parameters you want. Click OK to begin the search or click Cancel. When a definition is displayed for your search term you will notice that a forth icon appears, Find Next Match, if you click this it will display the next term found for your search. The other two icons each show half of a man s body; these will move you ahead or back through the glossary entries alphabetically. On the bottom right side of the screen are the icons for Main Menu and Help.

4 Map When you go into Map you will see two lists. On the left side there is the same educational list that is displayed on the Main Menu. On the right side is an alphabetical list of all the stretches in the program. To choose a topic from either list click on it once with the mouse. The program will take you to either the Education video or Stretching video according to your selection. After viewing the stretch you can return to the Map screen by clicking on the third icon in the bottom list, it looks like a globe with a yellow arrow. In the bottom right corner of the Map screen are the icons for Main Menu, Map (this screen), and Help. Stretching Centre

5 The Stretching Centre allows you to play the videos from the education database that is listed on the right side. To view one of the education videos click on the desired topic and the video for it will play in the box on the left side. The video controls are located directly below the video box. The name of the education topic that is presently chosen is displayed directly above the video box. The second list is General Stretching ; this contains a brief list of some basic stretches. To view one of the stretches click on it and you will be taken directly to the stretching database video for that particular stretch. To return to the Stretching Centre click on the third icon, with the figure doing a stretch and the yellow arrow. Muscle Groups, Sports, and Machinery Centre The Muscle Groups, Sports, and Machinery Centre categories each display two lists. The list on the left is titled according to which category you are viewing. The example provided shows the Muscle Group Categories and it contains all the different muscle groups. When you click on a muscle group with the mouse the list on the right, called Stretches, will display all the stretches appropriate for that muscle group. To view a particular stretch from that muscle group click on the stretch. The video will appear for that exercise. To return to your original screen from the video screen, click on the third button along the bottom. In the bottom right corner of the Muscle Groups screen are several icons. The first icon is Print Stretching Program ; this allows you to print out the stretching instructions for a particular muscle group. The other icons are Main Menu, Muscle groups (this screen), and the online Help. Sports and Machinery Centre work exactly the same way. The left column displays the sports or machinery and the right column displays the exercises for the particular sport or machinery clicked on.

6 Anatomical The anatomical figures shown display the back of the human body on the left side of the screen and the front on the right side. Each figure has specific parts of the body highlighted in light blue. As you move the mouse pointer over a highlighted area the name for that muscle group is displayed in the middle of the screen. Below the name a diagram will appear displaying the chosen muscle group. If you click on a highlighted area once with the mouse all the exercises for that muscle group will appear next to the anatomical figure that you clicked on. To choose and view an exercise click on it once with the mouse. The appropriate video and written instructions for that exercise will appear. After you have viewed the stretch you can return to the anatomical figures by clicking on the Anatomical icon on the video screen, it appears as the third icon in the bottom row. While in the Anatomical screen you can get rid of a list of stretches that you opened by clicking on Close Stretches. To call up another list click on the desired muscle group, this will close any stretching list you already have open and display the new list you have chosen. On the bottom middle of the screen there are icons for Main Menu, The Anatomical Figure (this screen), and Help.

7 Database Search Database Search allows you to set certain parameters in order to find stretches that suit your needs. You are presented with a list for General Muscles and Specific Muscles ; each list has a scroll bar attached to it in order to allow you to move through the list as you choose. Click on the desired muscle group(s) from one or both lists, as it fits your needs and search parameters. Next you have a list of four types of stretches you can choose from. Then the level of difficulty, whether you want the exercises to be with or without a partner, and finally, unilateral or bilateral stretches. Click in the boxes that meet your search requirements. Once you have made your choices you can click on Find Above and the computer will take you directly into the stretching database and the video that fits your search parameters. To view the next stretch click on the icon, Find Again", in the bottom left corner of the video screen. It looks like a large magnifying glass, and this will bring up the next stretch found for your search. To return to the Database Search screen click on the fourth button in the bottom row, it looks like a human figure with a large box above his head and a back-pointing arrow. If there are not any stretches that fit your choices a message will appear saying Search Data is not Found, click OK and adjust your search parameters. If you decide you don t want the parameters you have chosen you can click on Clear All to erase your choices and begin again. In the bottom right of the Database Search screen are the icons for Main Menu, Database (this screen), and Help.

8 Custom Programs The Programs section allows you to create a customized stretching program. To create your own program click on Create New Program, a dialogue box will appear for you to enter the name you wish to save your program as, once you have entered a name click OK. A new dialogue box will appear with instructions, after you have read it click OK. The program will take you to the stretching database and display stretch number one. At the bottom of the Description on the right side will be a small box with Use this Stretch beside it. Click in the box if you want to add that particular stretch to your program. To move to the next stretch click on the second last icon on the bottom left of the screen, it appears as half of the upper torso of a man. To move back one stretch click on the icon to its right, the other half of the torso. If you choose a stretch, then change your mind, click on it a second time to remove the X. Once you have chosen all the exercises that you want included in your program return to the Programs screen by clicking on the third icon in the row to the left then click Finish. The name of your program will appear in the left column and the exercises in the right column. You can edit your program by clicking on Edit Program. You will be taken back to the stretching database where you can add or remove stretches from your program. You can also delete all your choices by clicking on the corresponding button. The four icons in the bottom right of the Programs screen are for Print Stretching Program, Main Menu, Programs (this screen), and Help. Client Programs There are three parts to Client Programs. The first part is called Client and lists all the users who have programs in the system. The second part Client s Program indicates what stretching program the user is presently working with. The third part, Programs, lists all the programs available for client use. To create a new client click on the appropriate button. A dialogue box will appear asking you to enter the new client s name, after you enter their name click OK. A second dialogue box will appear telling you to click on the desired program. Click OK to close the dialogue box then click on the appropriate program for the new client. To create a new program click on the Programs heading, you will be taken to the Programs section. The icons in the bottom right corner of the Clients Program screen are for Main Menu and Help.

9 . The customized programs were originally created within the Programs section then assigned to clients in Client Programs. Client Centre is where the clients can access their program without changing it. The Client Centre contains a bar with a drop arrow on the right side. Click on the arrow and a list will appear with the names of all the clients who have programs registered. Click on the client s name and you will be taken directly to the stretching database of their program. The first stretch for that program will appear. Move through the program using the green arrows in the bottom right. To return to the Client Centre click on the third icon in the row in the bottom left side, with a row of people exercising and the back arrow. The icons in the bottom right are for Help, Stretching Centre, Machinery Centre, and Main Menu. Statistics Statistics tracks how often you visit a particular site. The left side has all the stretching categories that are listed on the Main Menu. The right side has all the education topics. There are two columns for tracking numbers for the education section. The first column tracks how often you accessed the education section from the Stretching Centre category. The second column tracks how often you accessed the education section from the Main Menu and Menu Bar. Below the stretching category column is the date and time for the last time the counter was set.
