1 The NewsEdge.com Search tab provides four search interface choices to help you execute targeted, highly relevant searches: Quick Search, Guided Search, Boolean Search and Advanced Search. Use the horizontal navigation bar to select your preferred search interface. Note: This guide uses the Boolean Search interface. The Boolean Search interface allows for the building of precise, error-free searches via its unique term-and-clause wizard. Users type a keyword in the term box and NewsEdge will perform a lookup against its proprietary taxonomy (ACME) for company, industry, subject, location, and people codes as well as a lookup by content source. The default setting for each keyword is set to search anywhere in the article. Users can change that to restrict the search to just the headline, lead, full body text or story metadata. In the example below, the user entered in the keyword ford and found the company code for Ford Motor Company. To use the company code, the user will click on the company name. Boolean searches can have as many terms as needed. You can add more terms and term boxes by clicking located on the right side of this section. Each row of term boxes is called a clause. By default, each clause is connected by an AND qualifier. When you choose to search on more than one clause, NewsEdge.com will search any of the terms in the first clause and any of the terms in the second clause. You can choose to change the default AND qualifier to OR by clicking on the AND qualifier button ( ).

2 You can add more clauses to your search by clicking section. located at the bottom of the Below, see a search that combines a series of auto company codes via the OR operator, with a separate clause that is a combination one industry code with two keywords and phrases. This example shows the flexibility and power that this structured approach to searching provides NewsEdge users. The use of the company code ensures that only articles that are highly relevant to the company appear in the search results. The combination of an industry code with free text ensures that the searcher can easily create comprehensive searches with ease. Tip: by clicking on the star icon next to a company, industry, subject, or people code, as shown below, you will make sure that you only retrieve the most highly relevant headlines and articles in your search results. This is particularly useful when searching on companies or topics that generate a lot of news. Once you have finished entering your search criteria, click and NewsEdge.com will run your search and deliver the most recent headlines pertaining to your search. Once you ve had the chance to review your results, if there are stories you wish to download, print or , select desired headlines by marking the checkboxes, then click on the icons at the far right along the search titlebar. 3 If you aren t satisfied with the results, you can use the NewsEdge Refinery to further explore and refine your search results (for more information on using the NewsEdge Refinery, please refer to the NewsEdge Refinery Guide), or click on the Return to search form icon ( ) to view your search string and make edits to your query. If you want to remove any term from your search, simply click the clear icon ( ) in that specific term box. This will remove the term without affecting any other portion of your search. To remove all the search terms and begin a new search, you can click. Using Settings to Filter Search Results The Settings section is located at the bottom of the Boolean Search page. Selecting an option in this section will affect how/what results display in your article results. Selections made in this section over-ride any default choices made in your Preferences panel near the top right of the screen. The Settings section includes: Date Range, Results Display, Story Filtering, and Source Filtering. Date Range The first choice in the Settings section is date range. Choose the provided range from the drop down menu or select your preferred dates. Please note historical availability varies among source providers. Sorting This section, Results Display, is where you can choose how to sort your results: Relevance, Receive Date, or Publication Date. Whichever you choose determines which stories are displayed first. Next, you can customize how many results are to be displayed per page (up to 100). Finally you can select Headline only or Headlines and Summaries for your search results. Story Filtering Story Filtering offers many filtering options to ensure you are getting the most relevant stories that you want to see. Copyright 2017 Acquire Media - 3 -

4 Relevance: Here you can request that only highly relevant stories appear in your search results. Select a higher numerical threshold on the right to narrow your search while a smaller number will broaden your search results. Remove Duplicates: NewsEdge will filter out duplicate headlines from your results. Clustering: Similar articles can be clustered under a root article designated with the icon ( ) in your headlines. This saves users from having to scroll through many related headlines. Business Relevance Score: Setting the percentage bar to a higher number will ensure that your results are from content that is highly relevant to business news and also is more heavily coded to business topics and companies. Word Count: You can designate the length of articles you prefer to see in your results. Choose from more than or less than in your word count criteria. Flagged Story Filtering: NewsEdge offers users the ability to flag stories of interest. These flags are used as a filter. Checking this box will only return stories that have been flagged by you, your group or someone in your organization. Source Filtering NewsEdge provides a very simple way to adjust Source Filtering by way of a slide bar, shown below: Simply slide the bars one way or the other depending on whether you d like to search a broader or narrower source set. 5 and start to broaden in subject matter and geographic coverage as the slider bar moves right. Hover over the terms, Essential, Core, and Pro to see descriptions of these source groupings. The Articles bar refers to licensed publications hosted on NewsEdge itself, while the Web- Linked sources indicates web content that has been identified and indexed by NewsEdge. Use the source classification buttons, Source Type, Geo-Origin, Geo-Focus, Classification and Language to further narrow the sources searched with your query. Once you have selected all the necessary settings, click on results. to see your headlines How to Save a Search AND Create an Alert From the search results page after running ANY search, if you are happy with your results and would like to save the query for future use, you can immediately save your search. This section will tell you how. To save your search: 1. From the headlines results view, click on the Save button. 2. If you only want to save a search, name your search in the Save text box and click OK. 3. If you want to save your search and add it to a News Group on your My News tab, use the drop down menu Add to Tab. 6 4. Additionally you can create a new alert from this same menu. Use the drop down for Add to Alert and select Create New Alert. Note: you can also add your saved search to an already existing alert here To create an alert: 1. In the Save menu, use the drop down for Add to Alert 2. You can select an existing alert to add to or Create New Alert. If you are creating a new alert, type in your alert name 3. Select which delivery option you prefer: Continuous, Daily or Weekly. 4.
