3 Introduction This update includes the enhancements for Waitemata DHB; a SafeRx web link on the Medtech32 prescribing screen will access information about high risk medicines. Medtech Pre-requisites Please review the following pre-requisites and ensure they are met prior to installation: An Interbase BackUp and Restore is NOT required before running this update. Your practice MUST be on Medtech32 Version or above. If you ARE NOT on Medtech32 Version or above, please DO NOT continue. Ensure the person(s) who will be performing the upgrade has read through the fax notification and these release notes. IMPORTANT: This document contains valuable information that, if not read, could seriously affect the upgrade progress and/or possible down time of your network. Ensure you are ALWAYS logged onto Windows with administrative rights when performing ANY installation, update, or maintenance tasks. This update MUST be run on the Medtech32 Server and can be run whilst users are logged into Medtech32. Any laptop used for Briefcasing MUST BE checked in before running the update to ensure the database s are synchronised. This update must also be run on any laptop that is used for Briefcasing. IMPORTANT NOTE Medtech recommends that all Medtech Upgrades should be performed by a Medtech Certified Technician or your Practice Technician. 4 Medtech32 Update Installation 1. Ensure that you are running Version or above of Medtech32. This can be checked by logging into Medtech32 and selecting Help About Medtech32 (see pre requisites above). 2. Visit our website at 3. Select New Zealand in region drop down (Top right hand side of the window) 4. Select menu, medtech online medtech32 downloads. The New Zealand Medtech32 Updates page will be displayed. 5. Here you will find WDHB SafeRx Update. 6. Save the file to your desktop or other folder. 7. Double Click on the file to run. 8. The update installation screen will appear. 9. A screen will appear advising to enter the supplied password. Enter the password provided in the Update Notification that was faxed out to you to continue. 10. The installation will now begin. 11. 5 SafeRx Release Notes Since February last year, you may have been receiving communication from the Quality Use of Medicines Team at Waitemata DHB about targeted high risk medicines. This MedTech/SafeRx enhancement is part of this initiative. To make these resources more accessible in your practice management system, we have added links to the SafeRx resources in Medtech32. These changes were released to practices in November 2009; however it has come to our attention that some practices may not have run this update. The SafeRx update is available on the Medtech website and includes new target medicines, therefore please run this update regardless if you believe you have already installed and are using SafeRx. This initiative of the Waitemata DHB s Quality Use of Medicines Team (SafeRx ) aims to promote the safe use of medicines which may cause harm if not used correctly; these medicines are considered to be high risk because they require extra care when being prescribed, dispensed, and administered. Resource materials for a range of high risk medicines are available for primary care teams working within the Waitemata DHB area. 8 Clinical Module Clinical New Patient Medication When you search for a drug which is on the high risk medicines list, the SafeRx logo and the link will be displayed in the New Patient Medication screen. 9 Setup There is no setup required for the SafeRx update. The information below demonstrates what changes have been made to the drug list in Medtech32 Drug Setup Clinical Drug A new group of fields have been added under the More tab of New Drug screen to capture the details required for the SafeRx URL. 10 Utilities Utilities Miscellaneous Drug URL Data Transfer Utility A new Utility Drug URL Data Transfer Utility has been added under miscellaneous submenu in Utilities. This utility will allow the user to export all the drug URL links set up MedTech32 to a file. This file can then be used to import all the drug URL links in another MedTech32 system. This update will automatically run the utility and import all the drug links into Medtech database. Note The Unload capability will be restricted by way of a password so that distribution list files can only be created by authorised users.
