11 4 Configure security software 4.1 Before installation 4 Configure security software The following section explains how to configure your security software for installation and optimum operation of ZEN 2.3 (blue edition) properly. INFO The term security software combines all programs which protect your computer from viruses, unwanted interventions, etc.. This includes virus scanners, firewalls and intrusion detection systems. If you don`t adapt the security settings there can be problems while installing or running ZEN 2.3 (blue edition). The following topics will show you how to avoid problems with the security software and adapt the settings correctly. Configure security software 4.1 Before installation To ensure correct installation, we recommend to perform the following settings: Lower security rules Set the security rules from "high" to "low". How you set the security rules, refer to the respective operating instructions of your security software. Disable security software Configure security software In rare cases, you may need to disable the security software completely. Make sure that you enable the security software after installation. How to disable or enable the security software, refer to the respective operating instructions of your security software. 4.2 After installation To ensure the optimal operation on Windows, we recommend you to perform the following settings after the installation: Exclude ZEN program files from virus scanning Exclude the files ZEN.exe, ZENService.exe and ZISProtocolServer.exe from virus scanning. How to exclude files from virus scanning, refer to the respective operating instructions of your security software. Exclude ZEN specific file extensions from virus scanning Exclude files with the file extensions*.czi, *.zvi, *.zishm from virus scanning. How to exclude file extensions from virus scanning, refer to the respective operating instructions of your security software. Exclude ZEN specific folders from virus scanning Under Help About ZEN... Show ZEN Information Folders you can see the program specific folders. How to exclude folders from virus scanning, refer to the respective operating instructions of your security software. 13 4 Configure security software 4.2 After installation Change default folder for images on your operating system In Windows 7 in the context menu of My pictures Temporary files Operating system Windows 7: Folder / path %TEMP% or %LOCALAPPDATA%\temp or C:\Users\{user name}\appdata\local\temp Change default folder for temp files First, define an appropriate path for the TEMP environment variable (user context). Then define the environment variable SWAP indicating a corresponding path. For Windows 7 (engllish) this has the following paths or folders that you must exclude from virus scanning: C:\Users\{user name}\my Pictures C:\Users\{user name}\appdata\local\temp %TEMP% %SWAP% System specific folders If you are using a ZEISS PC system, the location of your images is predefined. For full functionality you should have made the following settings: You have disabled the security software during installation or reduced the security settings. 15 5 Installing ZEN 5 Installing ZEN INFO Do not try to install an older ZEN version over a newer ZEN version. If ZEN is already installed on your PC, during installation the current version will be uninstalled first. In case of installing ZEN on a SEM system, SmartSEM 6.0 software must be installed on your computer. Please make sure that SmartSEM is not running when installing ZEN. Prerequisites You have read the chapter Configure security software [} 11] attentively. If you have inserted the product DVD into the DVD drive, the installation will start automatically and after a short while you will see the installation screen. When automatic DVD playback has been deactivated on your computer, perform installation as follows: Procedure 1 Click on Computer in the Windows start menu. 2 Double-click on the DVD-RW drive in the Devices with Removable Media section. You will see folders and contents of the product DVD. 3 Double-click on the Setup.exe entry. Depending on the security settings on your computer several warning messages could appear. Ignore the messages or confirm with Ok. After a short while you will see the installation screen with an overview of all products available for installation. INFO If you work with a Windows 7 system you must install the Windows 7 Hotfix and the Windows 7 Patch first. This will ensure the correct installation of ZEN x64 later on. You can install the hotfix and patch by clicking on the corresponding buttons on the installation screen. Note that each installation requires a system restart. If you work with Windows 10 system or the hotfix / patch is already installed on your system, you can continue with the next step. 4 Click on ZEN (x64). The language selection dialog window is displayed. 5 Select the language in which you want to run the installation program from the dropdown list and click on OK. 16 5 Installing ZEN The InstallShield Wizard opens. 6 Click on Next to start with the installation. The License Agreement dialog is displayed. 7 Select I accept the terms in the license agreement. 8 Click on Next. The Destination Folder dialog is displayed. Here you can choose an alternative installation folder. We recommend to leave the default folder settings untouched. 9 Click on Next to install ZEN to the default folder or click on Change to select a different folder. 17 5 Installing ZEN The Custom Setup dialog window is displayed. You can leave it by the default settings. If you don`t want to install a certain feature simply deactivate it in the dropdown menus. NOTICE If you install ZEN on a SEM system, deactivate the features ZEN (black edition) and MTB Click on Next. 13 The Select File Association dialog is displayed. Decide if you want to associate CZI files with ZEN blue or ZEN black. This dialog is not available if you have deactivated wether ZEN (blue edition) or ZEN (Black edition) for installation. 18 5 Installing ZEN The Ready to Install the Program dialog is displayed. 15 Click on Install. The software will be installed now. After a while the Device Driver Installation will be started. 16 Click on Install. The device driver installation will be executed several times (for several drivers) because some drivers have to be installed separately. 19 5 Installing ZEN After the driver installation the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog is displayed. 17 Click on Copy License Files to copy the license files automatically from the supplied removable medium (USB stick) to your computer. 18 Click on Finish. You have successfully installed ZEN 2.3 (blue edition) on your computer. Start the software by clicking on the ZEN blue icon on your desktop. 20 6 Installing ZEN on a SEM system 6 Installing ZEN on a SEM system For working with SmartSEM and ZEN together the RRemote Client must be installed additionally on the SEM system. The installation of ZEN is performed like described in the chapter Installing ZEN. After the installation of the ZEN software you will be asked to install the RRemote Client. Continue as described below: Procedure 1 Click on the Yes button. The License Agreement dialog is displayed. 2 Click on the I Agree button. 22 6 Installing ZEN on a SEM system At the end the RConfigure dialog is displayed. 4 Check that the Client IP and the Server IP are identical and change it, if necessary. 5 Click on the Apply button. 24 7 Installing Matlab 7 Installing Matlab If you have bought the CAT Module (Correlative Array Tomography) the installation of MatlabRuntime is mandatory on both computers (SEM and LM system). Proceed as follows: Procedure 1 Click on Computer in the Windows start menu. 2 Double-click on the DVD-RW drive in the Devices with Removable Media section. You will see folders and contents of the product DVD. 3 Go to the folder Other \ MatlabRuntime. 4 Double- click on the MCRInstaller.exe entry. A WinZip Self-Extractor window opens and the files will be extracted After the extraction the MATLAB Compiler Runtime Installer opens. 5 Click on Next button to start with the installation. 24 Installation Guide ZEN 2.3 (blue edition) V1.0 en 09/2016

28 8 Changes on the operating system 8 Changes on the operating system INFO Installation of software, hardware drivers, changes to operating system settings or other system interference beyond the actions needed to operate ZEN 2.3 (blue edition) are always in the responsibility of the customer, because the potential impact can not be estimated. The following modifications have, in our experience, no effects on the functionality of the PC system: Network integration possible Installation of security software / antivirus software (highly recommend if your PC is attached to a network) Logon as Domain Users in an Active Directory environment (possibly with local administrator privileges if user needs to install software) Installation of standard software (e.g. Microsoft Office) Installation of printers Windows automatic updates and third-party software updates ( Windows Service Packs are to be considered different). Recommended settings: Allow option "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". That prevents, for example, aborting time series experiments if an automatic restart is performed after an automatic update. Information about allowed Windows service packs can be found under System requirements. Effects of following modifications can`t be estimated: Modifications in the Windows operating system Implementation of group policies and scripts Installation of third-party software with hardware support. Installation of third-party software for generating large data rates (such as backup software) due to possible performance problems of the simultaneous operation of Fast Acquisition Systems Storage of data on network drives by redirecting folder structures (e.g. there can occur performance problems in case of Fast Acquisition systems or limitation of the available data storage capacity (disk quota)) If problems occur, the system can be restored to the state of delivery by a ZEISS service technician. 28 Installation Guide ZEN 2.3 (blue edition) V1.0 en 09/2016
