5 1. Background Thank you for choosing the mce100 mobile content exchange system. mce Systems is a world leading developer of advanced solutions for the mobile industry. The mce100 is an innovative PC based, Mobile Content Exchange system. The system allows for a quick and simple transfer of data and multimedia content, between mobile devices. The mce100 is first and foremost, a user friendly application; simply plug-in two handsets and with one click, the content is seamlessly converted and transferred. 6 2. The mce100 Starter Kit Package contents 3. Getting started The mce100 Starter Kit includes: 1. The mce100 connection box 2. USB Cable, which connects the mce100 to the PC 3. Two sets of connection cables 4. A SIM reader 5. Installation CD (optional) 6. Quick user manual 7. USB Dongle The mce100 Connection box The mce100 connection box, serves as a communication hub, between the mobile phones and the computer. The following picture shows the front of the mce100 connection box. Indication Light Serial USB The mce100 connection box has two connector types, Serial and USB. The two left connectors are used for the source device and the two right connectors are used for the target device. Mobile phones are connected to the mce100 connection box through the appropriate mce100 cable. 5 Package Contents 6

7 3. Getting started Cables mce s unique color coded cables, are used to connect the mobile phones to the connection box. The mce100 system has two types of connection cables: Regular cables (1) and "Y" cables (2). Regular cables have either a USB or serial connector on one end, and a mobile connector on the other end. "Y" cables have both USB and serial connectors on one end, and a mobile connector on the other end. The SIM Reader The mce100 can read and write SIM cards with the help of a SIM reader. As well, the SIM card can be used as a source or target for the transfer. Note: The SIM reader can be used with all SIM cards, including Mike / iden. To transfer from a Mike/iDEN device, insert the SIM card into the mike device and use the device as a source. The SIM card reader has a small switch that changes it s operating mode. A system notice will appear on the screen, if switching the position is required. If the notice pops up, please follow the instructions and use a small pin to flick the switch. Note: when using the Y cables, please connect both the USB and serial connectors to the connection box and then connect the device. 7 Getting started 8

8 Step 1: Installing the PC application Turn on your computer and insert the mce100 installation CD into the CD drive of your computer. The installation application should start automatically. If the installation does not start automatically, find the mce100 CD icon under my computer, click on it, click setup.exe from the installation CD You will have to read and accept the license agreement in order to install the application Follow the instructions to complete the installation process. Step 2: Connect the mce100 connection box Take the USB Cable which connects the mce100 to the PC and connect side A (flat, common USB connector) to the PC, and then connect side B (square connector) to the middle USB port, located at the back of the mce100 box. Note: Internet connectivity is required for the installation process After completing the installation, a shortcut to the mce100 application will appear on your desktop: As the cable is properly connected, the indication LED on the connection switch on and the icon on the application will change: 9 Using the mce100 Application 10

10 Step 3: Activating the application The software activation process occurs according to the customer s agreement. There are two ways in which the mce100 is activated: 1. mce systems supplies you with the activation file, which contains the machine code and license number. 2. The machine code and license are not supplied automatically through the software. In this case, a registration screen pops up, with personal details that need to be filled out. Please follow the instructions to activate the application. Changing the mce100 language mce100 is a multilingual application. To change the application language: 1. Click More options 2. Select Language 3. A list of supported languages will fold out. Select the desired language 4. The User Interface will change automatically 13 Using the mce100 Application 14

11 4. Using the mce100 application The Task bar With the mce100 you can transfer contacts and/or multimedia content between two mobile devices. You can transfer data from a SIM card to a mobile device, print a mobile phonebook, backup and restore mobile device content and delete device content, etc. The task bar on the left side is used to select the operation type: Device recognition: Matching a cable to a device If you do not know which cable to use for a specific device: 1. Click Select device Transfer transfers content between two devices Print prints a copy of a device phonebook Backup backs up device content to the PC (optional) Restore restores device content from the PC to the mobile device (optional) Delete - Deletes supported content from a mobile device (optional) 2. Select the device brand 3. Pictures of all supported devices from the selected brand will appear. In each box you can see the device picture, device type, and the matching cable s name and colour. 4. 12 Note: A printable supported device and matching cables list is located in more options. When the correct model appears on the screen, it indicates that the device was properly identified. If there was an error, the pop up, "device was not recognized" will appear. In that case please follow the instructions in the mce support (see page 33). Note: Devices which connect to the mce100 connection box using a serial cable must be manually selected. Automatic device recognition One of mce100's unique features is its extremely fast USB device recognition. Connect any USB mobile device to the mce100 connection box (source or target), and the system will automatically detect the device s brand and model type. The device's picture and type will appear on the screen automatically. Quick search Click on select device, and then use the search bar on the top of the page, to find the necessary device and its matching cable. Type in the model name/number of the phone you are looking for, and the matching results will appear on the page. Manual device recognition To manually select a device: 1. Connect the device to the connection box 2. Click Select device (source or target) 3. Select the device brand 4. Double click on the requested device type 17 Using the mce100 Application 18

13 Device info Once a device is manually selected, the device s picture, brand and type appear on the screen. After manual detection, additional information on the device is available by clicking (available for most models). The device's additional information includes: ESN/IMEI Firmware version (when available) Lock code (when available) 19 Using the mce100 Application 20

14 Content transfer Transferring content between two phones 1. In the task-bar click Transfer 2. Connect the source device, to the source USB/serial socket of the mce100 connection box, using the appropriate cable 7. After both source and target devices are recognized the Start button will be enabled. Click Start for the transfer process to begin. Note:In some cases you will be asked to choose the types of multimedia content, that you would like to transfer. 3. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually 4. Connect the target device, to the target USB/serial socket of the mce100 connection box, using the appropriate cable 5. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually. 6. If you only want to transfer contacts verify that the Include multimedia checkbox (under the start button) is not checked. If you want to transfer both contacts and multimedia content, make sure that the Include multimedia checkbox is checked 21 Using the mce100 Application 22

15 Transferring contacts using a SIM card mce100 can read and write SIM cards, and use them as a source or target for the transfer. 5. Connect the target device to the target USB/serial socket of the mce100 connection box with the appropriate cable (for more information see the device recognition chapter) 6. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually 7. The Start button will be enabled. Click Start for the transfer process to begin To transfer contacts from a SIM card to a phone: 1. Click on Transfer in the task-bar panel 2. Gently insert the SIM card into the SIM reader with the contacts facing down 3. Insert the SIM reader into the source USB socket of the mce100 connection box 4. If the SIM reader is not automatically recognized, select it manually. To select the SIM reader manually click on select device, SIM reader will appear with the device brand list. 23 Using the mce100 Application 24

16 The transfer process When the transfer process begins, a pop up window with status bars appears. The status bars indicates the progress of the transfer. The status of the transfer is indicated in three ways: 1. The status bars indicates the progress of the transfer 2. The animated telephone - shows the transfer speed 3. The flashing indicator lights show that the transfer is taking place Transfer report The transfer report window opens at the end of the transfer process. The following information is available in the report: 1. Start time 2. Number of contacts that were actually copied, out of the total number of contacts stored on the source device 3. Number of images that were actually copied, out of the total number of images stored on the source device (it will appear only in a full transfer; contacts & multimedia) 4. Number of video files that were actually copied, out of the total number of video files stored on the source device (it will appear only in a full transfer; contacts & multimedia) 5.Total size of the transferred content in kilobytes 6. End time A sign appears when all of a specific type of content (i.e. contacts) is transferred successfully. A sign appears if some of the content has failed to transfer. The report will indicate the cause of the failure. Note: In the "transfer report" window, you can print the transferred contacts or export them to a CSV file 25 Using the mce100 Application 26

17 Backup and Restore (Optional) The mce100 can back up a mobile device's content to a PC. The backed up content can then be restored to any model of device supported by the mce100. Backing up the device's content regularly is the best way to avoid losing the valuable content. Backing up device content to the PC: 1. Connect the source device to the source USB/serial socket of the mce100 connection box using the compatible cable 2. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually 3. In the task-bar click Backup 4.The source Browse button and the target select device button will be disabled. A PC will appear as the target 5. A default name will be given to the backup file. If you wish to change the file name, click on the target browse button and select the backup file name 6. If you want to backup contacts only (default option) verify that the Include multimedia checkbox (under the start button) in not checked. If you want to backup contacts and multimedia content, make sure that the Include multimedia checkbox is checked. 7. The Start button will be enabled. Click Start for the Backup process to begin Note: The default destination folder is c:\program files \mce100\backup. Click Browse to change the folder. Restoring backed up content 1. Connect the target device to the target USB/serial socket of the mce100 connection box using the compatible cable 2. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually 3. In the task-bar click Restore 4. The source select device button and the target Browse button will be disabled. A PC will appear as the source 5. By default, the last file backed up will be selected. If you wish to restore from a different file, click on the source browse button and select the file you wish to restore 6. If you want to restore contacts only (default option) verify that the Include multimedia checkbox (under the start button) in not checked. If you want to restore contacts and multimedia content, make sure that the Include multimedia checkbox is checked 7. The Start button will be enabled. Click Start for the restore process to begin 27 Using the mce100 Application 28

18 Printing a phone's contacts list With the mce100 you can print a mobile device phonebook. 1.Connect the source of the mce100 connection box using the compatible cable 2. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually 3. In the task-bar click Print 4. The source Browse button, as well as the target Select device and Browse buttons, will be disabled. A printer will be displayed on the target side 5. The Start button will be enabled. Click Start for the printing process to begin 6. A printing options dialog will open after the transfer is done. Note: It is possible to print the device phonebook from the report window, at the end of a content transfer. It is also possible to print contacts which were not transferred (in case there was not enough memory available on the target device) with the compatible cable 2. If the device is not automatically recognized, select it manually 3. In the task-bar click Delete 4. The source Select device and Browse buttons and the target Browse button will be disabled. 5. If you want to delete contacts only (default option) verify that the Include multimedia checkbox (under the start button) in not checked. If you want to delete contacts and multimedia content, make sure that the Include multimedia checkbox is checked 6. After choosing the device to be deleted, the Start button will be enabled. Click Start. 7. A warning message will appear, press OK to approve the deletion process. Other options Writing mode You can select whether you want to replace or add to the existing content on the target device using the replace content checkbox. If you the checkbox is checked the content that was stored on the target will be deleted! Delete Device content With the mce100 you can delete content stored on a mobile phone. 1. Connect the device you want to delete to the target USB/serial socket of the mce100 connection box 29 Using the mce100 Application 30

19 Export contacts mce100 can export contacts to a.csv file which can be imported to common applications such as Excel, Outlook, etc. To export contacts: 1. At the end of any transfer, a report window opens. 2. In the report window click the Export contacts button 3. Browse and select the target file name and location 4. Click Save Driver Installation Agent The mce100 automatically detects and installs USB mobile device drivers. The installation process is fully automatic and does not require any user intervention. When a USB device is first connected to one of the mce100 front sockets, the driver agent will detect the device and notify the user that the driver installation is in progress. Do not disconnect the device from the mce100 connection box during the installation process. Do not connect another device during the installation process. Note: Do not use the mce100 sockets for any use other than content transfer. 31 Using the mce100 Application 32
