Netformx DesignXpert v 15.5 Features The following features and updates have been added to Netformx DesignXpert v CCW Configurator SFP Support Netformx DesignXpert enables users to configure and setup SFP (small form-factor pluggable) modules to CCW supported devices seamlessly in the CCW Configurator window CCW Conversion Matrix Updates The CCW conversion matrix was first introduced in Netformx DesignXpert 15.0 in order to support conversion of Legacy based Netformx DesignXpert projects from Cisco Legacy systems to Cisco Commerce Workspace (CCW). This has been updated with the following features: The items reviewed in the conversion matrix can be interactively selected and fixed. The conversion matrix displays Item status in real-time, meaning when an item has changed from one status to another (e.g. partially to converted) the status is displayed once the Configurator window is closed. The conversion matrix can be accessed at any stage from the Netformx DesignXpert ribbon Configuring Services in CCW Configurator Starting from Netformx DesignXpert v15.5 the user can manually add services using the CCW Configurator window to any major line item or sub components that are serviceable parts. The services are displayed as a sub folder in the configuration tree and when added are marked in blue print Features Retired CCW Failsafe Mode: This mode was developed to ease the risk of migrating to CCW during the early days. This operating mode is no longer required and it has been removed. Any user who had that option enabled will be presented with a choice of running Netformx DesignXpert in CCW or Legacy Mode we recommend selecting CCW Mode. SQL Installation The Netformx DesignXpert database infrastructure is now upgraded from Microsoft Access to Microsoft SQL R Note: The installation process for upgrades or new installations of this new infrastructure does not require any user interaction however note that the installation takes longer than previous installations. The details of the installation provided in this section cover the technical and time aspects and is designed to give system administrators an understanding of the time frame involved in the installation process. Note: Due to the intensive resource requirement of Microsoft SQL server installation, it is recommended that you close all of resource intensive applications while performing the upgrade to Netformx DesignXpert v 15.5 Time Frame Netformx DesignXpert v 15.5 Installation process is identical for all supported operating systems. Windows 7 64bit Windows 7 32bit Windows 8 Pro *See Notes (1) below Windows 8 Enterprise *See Notes (2) below Page 5
Note: If the SQL server fails installation due to a desktop hardening security policy, please contact Netformx customer support for assistance. The following table presents the estimated time expectancy for installing Netformx DesignXpert: Operating System Windows 7 64bit Windows 7 32bit Windows 8 Pro Windows 8 Enterprise Total Installation Time Minutes Minutes Minutes Minutes Notes: 1. Windows 8 requires NET 3.5 features for SQL installations. New Installation (via link from the Netformx website) will try to install this feature with internet connection enabled. If the SQL installation of Windows 8 cannot install due to the above reason, Legacy Netformx DesignXpert (Access) database will be used as an alternative. This is not the preferred method of installation as it might lack some of the product s new features. 2. Windows 8 interactive mode will be enabled post Netformx DesignXpert Installation. Page 6
Note: There are no major differences between installation times on new machines and installation times on upgraded machines due to the time spent on migration vs. database retrieval via the Netformx Updater over the Internet. Installation Process: Technical Details 1. Once Setup.exe has run a. Custom Netformx EXE is run (Verifydbexist.exe) Verify Database existence b. Microsoft SQL 2008 Express R2 begins installation i. Dedicated Service is created (NFXSQLDX as Service) c. Custom Netformx EXE is run ( DBSHELLCMD.exe) Upgrade Installations: i. Attaches to Database file (MDF) ii. Creates Store Procedure iii. Creates Netformx Dbadmin Users ( Admin Rights for Netformx Updater) d. Custom Netformx EXE is run (DBMigration.exe) Migrate Microsoft Access data (lib.nlr) to SQL MDF Catalog File. e. Netformx Updater upgrade to version>= or higher 2. Requires OS Restart (in most cases). 5. Local Desktop Firewall and Antivirus Security Settings Starting with Netformx DesignXpert v15.5 the installation includes Java runtime (JRE6) as part of the installation. In order to prevent the local personal firewall (or antivirus software) blocking the usage of this Java module, the following local ports must be open: TCP Port 1433 (SQL Server) UDP Port 1434 (SQL Browser) TCP Ports (Netformx DesignXpert Java listener) Java execution from the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\netformx\bin\db\files\common\jre6\bin\java.exe" The list of the above requirements are changed on the desktop upon installation of Netformx DesignXpert v Uninstalling Netformx DesignXpert v.15.5 The following section explains how to uninstall Netformx DesignXpert v15.5 Page 7
Note: It is not necessary to uninstall an older version of Netformx DesignXpert in order to perform an Upgrade. Note that after you uninstall Netformx DesignXpert, it will not be possible to access the library and projects that were previously created. If you saved any project under the Netformx folder, you should backup these projects before uninstalling Netformx DesignXpert. To manually uninstall Netformx DesignXpert: 1. Close Netformx DesignXpert. 2. From the Start menu, select Programs > Netformx Uninstall > Netformx DesignXpert. A Warning message appears asking you if you are sure you want to continue with the uninstall process. If so, click Yes. 3. Reboot your computer. You may have to manually remove some files within the directory where Netformx DesignXpert was installed. 7. Additional Installation Notes Netformx DesignXpert v15.5 must be installed on a local drive. It is recommend that you ensure the following are set correctly: 1. Access to via both http (port 80) and https (port 443) should be allowed for registration and updater service. 2. Verify that is accessible using Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher. 8. Netformx Discovery: Operational Recommendations This section identifies guidelines for accurate and efficient discoveries using Netformx Discovery. You can find additional information on using Netformx Discovery in the Netformx DesignXpert Technical Guide Help file. When editing or printing tabular views of drawings, Netformx recommends wrapping the text within cells by right-clicking on any Select Row button and checking or un-checking the Wrap Text checkbox. For best graphic quality Netformx recommends that cut and paste be used to move symbols or icons between applications, rather than drag and drop. Netformx recommends that special attention be paid to discovery errors and warnings on the discovery results grid. Those rows will be emphasized in color and may indicate that your discovery settings were incorrect. For optimum performance, it is recommended that discoveries be performed from workstations connected directly to the Local Area Network (LAN). Discoveries performed over modem connections are not recommended due to performance degradation. SNMP must be enabled on a device and configured for RO (read only) or RW (read write) in order to discover the device s internal configuration. You must enter the specific community string in Netformx DesignXpert or the default; public will be used. Page 8
Note: in order to allow SNMP access from the workstation you should run the discovery to the discovered addresses. You can read multiple NT domains by entering a single user name and password that is a member of all these domains under the NOS Services tab in the Windows Service dialog box. It is recommended that local firewall software be disabled during discoveries (either windows internal firewall or third party products). Network Rediscovery and documentation auditing require a choice for each of the following options: Automatically make changes (default) or prompt before any change is implemented. Maintain the current layout and include new devices outside the drawing page (default) or have Netformx DesignXpert use its layout algorithm to recreate the document eliminating all previous document refinement and causing all manual changes to be discarded. If the discovery log file is very large, it may not open properly with WordPad. In this situation, save the log as a.txt file and open manually with Microsoft Word. 9. Documentation Resources For further information on Netformx DesignXpert v15.5 refer to the Netformx DesignXpert Help file, available by pressing F1 on your keyboard when working within Netformx DesignXpert Known Issues and Limitations Installation: Netformx DesignXpert: Installation failed (Microsoft KB ). SPR Netformx DesignXpert: In the event that Windows 8 installation fails; make sure the User Interactive Service status is Manual and not Disabled. If you cannot change the Service status from Disabled to Manual please consult with your system administrator. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: When upgrading Netformx DesignXpert there have been cases that the Library version status is set to N/A. Workaround: Performing a manual update of the Netformx Updater should resolve this issue. Netformx DesignXpert: cmd line - Netedit r does not work as specified. SPR Advisors and Reports: Netformx DesignXpert: On most advisors when running a report, save the settings of the report to the configuration; this is required due to the fact that the report simulates a completed operation. SPR Netformx DesignXpert General Issues: Netformx DesignXpert: When installing Netformx DesignXpert v on Windows 8 (Office 2013), run reports > Design Document > PDF. The report appears to be corrupted and fails to generate. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: A device that has been configured with Spare Option SFPs, uploaded and imported back to Netformx DesignXpert, will display the Spare Option Page 9
SFPs on the canvas and not as part of the device. The workaround is to drag the SFPs back to the device or re-configure them. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: There are limitations with the current SNMP walk engine (IPV6, SNMP v3 Privacy key). SPR The following Settings (SNMP v3 RFC) are currently not supported: Privacy (name and password) Context name Engine ID Localized authorization and private key Netformx DesignXpert: When printing Netformx DesignXpert reports in PDF format, margins do not adjust causing reports to split unevenly. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: Custom Proxy configurator doesn`t support Windows hosts (such as myserver or \\myserver) only FQDN. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: Save Settings In Windows XP the registry file isn t imported in to XP as the new settings. SPR See support plan for XP Netformx DesignXpert: On Windows XP In the Save Settings window (Application Settings menu > Options > Save Settings) file path locations settings for Reporting and Design Document are currently not supported. SPR See support plan for XP Netformx DesignXpert: Set Discount-Custom Group filter doesn't work correctly for empty custom groups within the scope of the project. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: LinkXpert - ND IPs in Device Properties: It is possible to assign as an IP address although it is an illegal IP address. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: When working with LinkXpert or Port Configuration it is impossible to configure an IP address on an aggregated port if that IP address has previously been used on one of the device ports. The workaround is to delete the relevant IP address from the port, assign the port aggregation group and assign the IP address. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: Predefined Queries path can be changed in Application Settings menu Options > Save Settings. This will result in loss of user's previous queries (before the Config - path change).spr Netformx DesignXpert: Netedit CLI commands for import export should include a text help file. In addition there is no indication for successful import or export. Using the CLI for export requires a mandatory use of the.zip extension in the filename. Without the.zip extension the export process will fail. SPR Netformx DesignXpert: In the case of a mismatch in VLAN labels between devices. For example; VLAN ID 1 label xx on device 1 and VLAN ID 1 on device 2 label xy, only VLAN label will be shown in the VLAN Manager. In addition different VLANs with the same VLAN ID are shown in the same Netformx Discovery project. SPR Netformx DesignXpert CCW Integration: CCW: There are cases where the CCW configurator shows Services folders (in the configuration tree) with no options on it. These folders should be ignored. SPR CCW: When importing a device configuration from CCW that includes components or services that were added in the CCW portal, their position might not be accurate in the Page 10
slot mapping of the device. If such a case, the Bill of Materials should not be affected and the user can remove and add the part of the correct slot if needed. SPR CCW: Resizing controls of the CCW Configurator displays an incorrect icon. When moving the cursor to the top or bottom of the new CCW configurator window the icon displayed shows the ability to resize although it is not supported. SPR CCW: CCW Configurator window supports only horizontal resize. SPR CCW: When working on a Class / Object with a long list of items for example the Services in WS-C6509-E, the title bar is not visible when scrolling down. PR CCW: When adding WSA_WSM-LIC= in order to configure the license the minimum quantity of licenses should be 100. Without adding minimal quantity the CCW configurator will not show the valid configuration option. SPR CCW: Validate Errors disappears after switching to another tab and then back to Configuration. SPR CCW: New devices (that have been added after project conversion) are shown in the conversion matrix as converted. SPR When working with Cisco E-Learning Credits advisor there is a discrepancy between the LC advisor install country and the CCW install country. The workaround is to have the LC advisor open when uploading the project to CCW. SPR CCW: For projects that have been validated in either Legacy or Failsafe mode, reopening the project will show the BOM status as not validated. Workaround perform revalidation. SPR CCW: When configuring Cisco there is no indication in CCW that the specific IOS 12KZ software option might be invalid for the selected configuration. SPR CCW: The title of the CCW Upload ConfigSet window shows ConfigSet Status, which should show Upload ConfigSet Status. SPR CCW: After a device has been validated (using the validate button) clicking OK removes the checkmark from the configuration tree. The device is still valid unless additional configuration changes have been applied. SPR CCW: CCW doesn t support slot assignment. Therefore there might be a situation where after a CCW import; a device picture may differ from the actual original Netformx DesignXpert configuration. The device and its configuration settings including validation and orderable availability remain intact. SPR CCW: Pricing discrepancies on configured devices: When selecting a country from the Install Country dropdown list or applying price list changes, the user must revalidate the device again using the validate button in the Configurator window or by going to Design > Validate Project. SPR CCW: There are cases of discrepancies between the CCW web site and the Netformx DesignXpert CCW implementation. In such cases the Cisco selected items might be different. SPR CCW: Not all components are uploaded to CCW (although "orderable via CCW"="Yes") SPR Cisco ConfigSet CCW-Import Search: Not all modified ConfigSets within the selected range appear in the Search results. Only the first 500 were returned. Workaround is to delete old ConfigSets. SPR Cisco ConfigSet CCW: When uploading a ConfigSet to CCW the ConfigSet name must not contain any special characters. SPR Page 11
Cisco ConfigSet CCW upload: Due to communications between Cisco ERP and Netformx KnowledgeBase there can be a situation when the Conflict Resolution window lists products that are not supported by CCW and are not reflected in the Project SKU Review window. In this case it should be presumed that the most up-todate information is presented in the Conflict Resolution window. Cisco ConfigSet Legacy Import: Netformx DesignXpert removes the System Selected items added by the Multiline Configuration Tool (MLC) validation process when importing the leb2 (ConfigSets exported from MLC) into Netformx DesignXpert. Share ConfigSet option in Netformx DesignXpert is case sensitive the user must write the CCO ID exactly as it was entered in the Cisco Portal. SPR Netformx Discovery Netformx Discovery: Devices from excluded subnets are still included in the discovery process. In order to eliminate the excluded networks, use the filter in the Discovery Results grid. SPR Netformx Discovery: When performing a Network discovery with WMI support in the case a domain name is use the correct syntax should be [DOMAIN Name]\[USERNAME] If a `/` was entered then the following message would be generated in the log The RPC server is unavailable SPR Netformx Cloud Netformx Cloud: When saving files to the cloud, if a file cannot be found the save will fail. Workaround; retrieve the file or change your settings to omit the missing file. Netformx Cloud: Any file name that contains the following illegal characters: "- '.,#$^%^&&^)\/ cannot be saved to Netformx Cloud. SPR Netformx Cloud: Netformx Cloud is currently in Beta stage. Netformx cannot guarantee data recovery during this stage. It is recommended that you create a backup of all data saved to Netformx Cloud. SharePoint / Salesforce.com Adapters When attempting to checkout a project while working off-line, a warning notice appears notifying you that The connection to SharePoint server failed. You should check your network connection and retry. Otherwise, you may edit a local copy of the file and check it in later or you may cancel the operation. However, note that checking-in a project edited locally may override changes made in the SharePoint copy. In addition checking out a project from SharePoint may override changes made in your local copy. SPR Netformx DesignXpert Salesforce adapter: When working with a proxy uploading files to Amazon.com or an external FTP, are not supported. SPR SharePoint - Netformx DesignXpert: SharePoint adapter only supports libraries under the hierarchy of the site selected in the login dialog. SPR SharePoint Netformx DesignXpert: When selecting multiple fields in "Upload Path Builder" some fields may not be visible in the Settings window. SPR SharePoint Netformx DesignXpert: Publish failed due to "File cannot be found" and In the Open SharePoint UI "The webpage cannot be found" if path contains "+". SPR SharePoint Netformx DesignXpert: SharePoint adapter may report an error when uploading an XML attached file, even when the operation succeeds. Check that the actual file exists in SharePoint before re-trying. SPR Page 12
Netformx DesignXpert Proxy / Salesforce: Netformx DesignXpert Custom Proxy is not in use when uploading files to ftp or amazon.com during synchronization. SPR Netformx Data Center Designer When editing a review for a template, if you chose to add a hyperlink, make sure the hyperlink is not empty. Use cancel if you do not want to add any link. SPR ComputeXpert: Adding a row in virtualization software and operating system grids is not possible. Workaround: After selecting an operating system or a virtualization platform, if you need to choose an additional one, use the "Tab" key to move between fields until a new row is added to the table.
