1 Scope The purpose of this document is to provide instructions for re-imaging VisionMaster FT workstations in the field from a VisionMaster bootable USB drive. If you do not have a bootable USB drive, but do have the.iso file containing the image, please refer to section 2 for instructions on how to create one. If you already have a bootable USB drive you can move straight to section 3. The bootable USB drive contains a Windows image based installer, similar to regular retail Windows versions. It contains everything required to install VMFT, including all required third party components and drivers for all supported platforms. The process is mostly automated and usually takes no longer than 30 minutes. The upgrade process is by re-imaging only, and upgrades from version 9 and above have the option to preserve customer data via a separate partition to the VMFT software. If this option is not selected, or, if upgrading from Windows XP all data will be wiped from the target machine. It is important that any customer data required after the upgrade is backed up before beginning the process. See section 3 for details about how to do this for each upgrade path. NORTHROP GRUMMAN Page 7 of 45

2 Creating a Bootable USB drive from the ISO file This section describes the process of creating a bootable USB drive from the released ISO image. If you already have the image on a bootable USB drive you can skip this section and move straight to step 3. The recommended tool for creating the USB drive is Rufus. A copy of this application can be found with part number VMC With the USB drive inserted, open the Rufus tool and ensure the drive is selected in the top dropdown box as highlighted. 2 Select the.iso file by clicking the disk icon also highlighted in the image below. 3 Leave the other options at their default setting and click Start to write to the USB drive. Figure 1 - Rufus dialog After the process is complete the drive is now ready to be used. Note this can take up to 30 minutes or longer depending upon the USB device (a USB 3 drive is recommended). Note: This process cannot be run on an NGSM company PC when encryption of USB drives is enforced. If you are using a PC with encryption enabled the ISO file and Rufus will need to be copied to another PC. NORTHROP GRUMMAN Page 8 of 45

3 Backing Up Existing User Data Before upgrading the system, a certain amount of existing user data must be backed-up. Turn the system on, let it boot up and back up the data as follows. Note: The file locations mentioned here have changed in version 9, so they need to be replaced in a different location. See section 5.8 Restoring User Data for details on how to restore them after the system has been upgraded. Depending on whether the existing partition is being kept or not (as described in section 4.2) a different amount of backup data is required. 3.1 Overwrite Existing Partitions If the upgrade is being applied to a version earlier than VMFT v9 (i.e. Windows XP) then the existing partitions cannot be retained, must be overwritten, and all user data must be backed up. Similarly, this upgrade path may also be used when upgrading from VMFT v9 to a later version and the option to keep the existing partition is not selected, as discussed in section 4.2. Note: If it is required to note the COM port used by Root Mouse, do this by opening the Device Manager and checking the name as shown below. Root Mouse COM Port displayed in Device Manager A. Fill out the following sections of the Upgrade Record Sheet (Appendix A): Note the time in transmit for each transceiver may be reset to zero during the installation. The recorded values should be added to the ship s transceiver log. Make a note of the machine name, IP address and Subnet Mask. Make a note of the display resolution of the monitor (right click on the desktop and select Properties Settings). Transceiver Settings. If the upgrade is being applied to a version earlier than VMFT v10.0 (for example a v9 to v10 upgrade) note the state of the Alarms On Cautions checkbox found in Charts Chart Dangers NORTHROP GRUMMAN Page 9 of 45

Make a note of any Goto locations in the system: o When radar is in standby, right-click on the video circle and select Goto. o Select each location in the Locations control, and make a note of the location in the Upgrade Record Sheet. If Root Mouse is installed make a note of the COM Port it uses as described above. B. Backup the following data to a USB memory stick (and copy it to the customer s memory stick if possible) to prevent it being accidentally deleted: Routes (Routes Route Import / Export) Parallel index lines (Nav Tools Parallel Index Lines I/O) Radar maps (Nav Tools Mapping I/O) Clearing Lines (Nav Tools Clearing Lines I/O) Manual Update (Charts Manual Update I/O) This backed up data should be reinstated after the installation is complete if the original data is lost for some reason. C. Back-up the current Config.cfg file to a USB memory stick. If the version being upgraded is earlier than VMFT v9 then this is located in: C:\Program Files\Sperry Marine\VisionMaster\Output\bin\Release\Config.cfg If the version being upgraded is VMFT v9 or later then it is located in: D:\VMFTDATA\Config\Config.cfg D. Back-up the current EcdisColors.dat colour calibration file to a USB memory stick. If the version being upgraded is earlier than VMFT v9 then this this is located in: C:\Program Files\Sperry Marine\VisionMaster\Output\ColorFiles\Ecdis\EcdisColors.dat If the version being upgraded is VMFT v9 or later then it is located in: D:\VMFTDATA\ColorFiles\Ecdis\EcdisColors.dat E. Save the current CID files, which if the version being upgaraded is earlier than VMFT v9 are in: C:\Program Files\Sperry Marine\Vision Master\Output\CID If the version being upgraded is VMFT v9 or later then they are in: D:\VMFTDATA\CID F. If purchasable feature Third Party Application is purchased (updating from 5.x, 6.x, 7.x and 8.x versions), save the configuration settings : Run the configuration tool, open the current Config.cfg file, look up the settings under Optional Features Third Party Applications and fill in the appropriate section in the Upgrade Record Sheet (Appendix A). NOTE: USER PROFILES WILL HAVE TO BE RECREATED WHEN OVERWRITING THE EXISTING PARTITIONS, AS VM DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY EXPORT AND IMPORT FUNCTIONALITY FOR THESE. USER PROFILES WILL BE RETAINED FOLLOWING AN UPGRADE FROM VERSION 9 OR LATER TO 10 OR LATER WHEN KEEPING THE EXISTING PARTITIONS (SEE 3.2KEEP EXISTING PARTITIONS). NORTHROP GRUMMAN Page 10 of 45

3.2 Keep Existing Partitions If the upgrade being applied to VMFT v9 or later there is an option to retain the data stored on the D: as described in section 4.2. If this upgrade path is used then the amount of customer data that is required to be backed up is significantly less. A. Fill out the following sections of the Upgrade Record Sheet (Appendix B): Make a note of the machine name, IP address and Subnet Mask. Make a note of the display resolution of the monitor (right click on the desktop and select Properties Settings) If the upgrade is being applied to a version earlier than VMFT v10.0 (for example a v9 to v10 upgrade) note the state of the Alarms On Cautions checkbox found in Charts Chart Dangers If Root Mouse is installed make a note of the COM Port it uses as described above. 4 Installing the Image from USB drive To install the image the processor must be booted from the USB drive. Either the BIOS menu or the Boot menu needs to be activated when the computer starts. 4.1 Selecting USB drive from BIOS or BOOT menu The method of entering the BIOS or BOOT menu in order to boot from the USB drive varies depending upon the platform that is in use.
