About This Release This section describes the new features and behaviors for this release. 7 Fixed Issues Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Fixed Issues PC Agent This section describes fixed issues that existed in previous versions of the Agent. The following issues existed in previous versions of the PC Agent and are now resolved: Issue CB CB CB CB CB CB CB CB CB Description In Connected Backup 8.x LDAP communities, if the Agent Setup Wizard is Off, the installation populates the User name field with the computer name, not with the user name. It caused the registration to fail. In Connected Backup 8.x Agents, on Windows operating systems, after the Agent file scan, the Agent reported errors for files that were excluded from the VSS Snapshot. The Connected Backup 8.x Agent no longer creates multiple backups of some smaller files, for example, temporary Internet files, because the Agent did not recognize the file attributes. If Connected Backup 8.x Agents lost its connection with the Data Center during a backup, and the Agent attempted to reconnect to the server, the Agent logged an exception in localfileindex.cpp. This execption caused the backup to fail. If you modify the case name of a folder, the Connected Backup 8.x Agent creates multiple backups of that folder. In Connected Backup 8.x Agents, when you backup to a Windows operating system that has SafeBoot encryption software files, the backup failed. In Connected Backup 8.x Agents, when you performed a disk image installation with the systray icon set to display, and then reboot the system, the systray icon disappeared. On Windows 7 operating systems, when the Connected Backup 8.x Agent retrieved a.pst file, the Connected Backup 8.x Agent creates a renamed temporary.pst file to capture the contents of the retrieved.pst file. The Agent then failed to rename the file back to its original name. In Connected Backup 8.x Agents, on Windows operating systems, the backup completes with errors when transitory files existed during the Agent scan time, but not at the time of backup. The Agent displays the following diagnostic message: Attempt to send a delete record when there is no previous revision. Iron Mountain Incorporated Connected Backup: Release Notes 7

8 Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Fixed Issues Mac Agent The following issue existed in previous versions of the Mac Agent and are now resolved: Issue CB CB CB Description In Connected Backup 8.x Mac Agents, on Mac OS X, if a file or folder was renamed, the filter driver processed the files incorrectly due to how some applications saved files by exchanging data with the contents of a temporary file. This caused Connected Backup not to backup some data in these files. The Connected Backup Mac Agentservice no longer uses 100% CPU for extended periods of time when the Mac performs a virus scan or copies any large file. PC Agent Installation Issues and Corrective Actions The PC Agent installation process has the following known issues: CB CB CB CB If you use path or file names with extended characters (including Japanese characters) during the PC Agent installation process, Agent installation fails, and the Agent displays an error that the Agent cannot start AgentService. If you enable verbose logging (/l*v) for a Connected Backup 8.x Agent command-line account recovery, and you use a technician ID and password, the log file displays the technician password. If you use the FIRSTBACKUP=1 parameter during the installation of a PC Agent that you downloaded from the Account Management Website, a backup does not take place after installation is complete. If you attempt to upgrade from a version Agent to version 8.4, the Agent upgrades but does not backup. Backup attempts display a C_CException error. Do not use extended characters in the file or path name of the MSI Agent Setup file. If you must enable verbose logging for account recovery troubleshooting, change your technician password after you complete the troubleshooting. The FIRSTBACKUP parameter is ignored by PC Agent Setup files downloaded from the Account Management Website. To back up a computer after an Agent installation from the Account Management Website, the user must click Backup Now in the Agent interface. The Agent backs up based on the backup schedule. Upgrade version Agents to version 7.5x before you upgrade the Agents to version 8.4x or later. CB In Connected Backup 8.x LDAP communities, when a new account registers, the download fails for the LDAP subcommunity. This occurs when the Account Management Website attempts to get Web settings for the LDAP subcommunity from the LDAPServer table. After you create the LDAP subcommunity, manually run the LDAP Syncher on the Registration Master server. CB CB The Connected Backup 8.x Agent does not support FAT32 drives on 64-bit operating systems. In Windows 7, the Save Wizard does not let you create a new folder. None. To save files to a new folder, use the following steps: 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Create a new folder to contain your files. 3. Right-click Refresh the list in the Save wizard dialog, and then select the new folder. Iron Mountain Incorporated Connected Backup: Release Notes 9

10 Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Known Issues CB-29713, CB CB CB CB When an upgrade occurs, the upgrade process compares the name of the Agent installation file that you use to perform the upgrade with the name of the Agent installation file that you used to initially install the Agent. If you perform a command line installation with an invalid Configuration ID or an invalid reservation code, you receive an error. The History Details displays the following message: The Data Center ended the Backup session because (ReasonCode <-1>). Try backing up again. If problem continues, contact Support. When you remove an Agent from a computer that has a Vista operating system, you can receive a prompt that asks you to close the Agent user interface, even if the Agent user interface is not open. Use the command line arguments communityid and configurationid only with new installations. These arguments do not work with upgrades. To use the command line to upgrade an Agent, rename AgentSetup.msi so that it matches the name stored in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Conn ected\agent\appsetupmsiname registry key. Ensure that you have a valid Configuration ID or reservation code when you perform a command line installation. None. Close the prompt and continue. None. Mac Agent Installation Issues and Corrective Actions The Mac Agent installation process has the following known issues: CB CB When you attempt to install an Agent using the command line method on a computer that already has an Agent installed, the installation application installs a second Agent on the computer. During command line installations for the Mac Agent, the Activate application does not start Agent service. If you use the command line installation method, ensure that the computer does not already have an Agent installed before attempting an Agent installation. When using the Activate command line option, be sure that the -registernow flag is set. CB When you run the Mac Agent Startup Wizard, and you do not complete the Wizard registration prompts, after some time a dialog box might display the following message: Agent is about to backup... If this message appears and you select Backup Now, the following error message appears: The Agent Background service has generated an error. If this problem continues, contact your administrator or service provider. If the Agent is about to backup dialog box is open, close it. 11 Known Issues Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes PC Agent Backup Issues and Corrective Actions The Agent backup process has the following known issues: CB When the Volume Shadow Copy service (VSS) is disabled, attempts to backup can freeze indefinitely. Stop and restart the Agent and Agent Service, and then reattempt the backup. CB The Agent displays errors when attempting to back up files in folders referenced by the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentContro lset\control\backuprestore\filesnottosnapshot Windows registry key. Windows does not use Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) for files in folders referenced by this registry key. Either exclude these folders from backup, or ensure that the files are closed before backing up the files. CB The Agent backs up password-protected PST files as base files, initially backing up the files using Optimizer, when the file is opened and closed in Outlook, but Outlook remains open during the backup. Close Microsoft Outlook before backing up password-protected PST files that were opened and closed. CB The constituent files of a mail file backed up using Optimizer are removed from the Data Center using different expiration rules than the container mail files if mail files are excluded from backups. If a mail file is excluded from a backup, the mail file is marked handled by excluded rules, and the constituent files are handled by file deletion rules. To avoid Optimizer constituent files from being removed unintentionally, ensure that the file deletion expiration rules are greater than or equal to the file exclusion expiration rules. CB CB CB CB CB CB You cannot backup a volume that does not have a drive letter associated with it. You cannot open the Agent s View History Details window if you have a New Messages window open. After you cancel a backup, the Agent does not use the filter driver to select files for backup. Instead, it performs a full scan of the hard disk. In Agent Settings, if you disallow backups over a dialup connection, backups over dial-up connections still run. If you allow backups over a dial-up connection, backups over dial-up connections do not run. On Agent computers that two or more users share, only the user that creates an file (.pst or.nsf) can back up the file. Backing up PAGEFILE.SYS can cause backups to complete with errors. To avoid creating a partition without a drive letter, before you install Microsoft Windows 7, partition your hard disk. For more information about how to partition your hard disk, see the Microsoft Support Website. Close the New Messages window before attempting to open the View History Details window. None. The issue occurs only if the dial-up connection settings in Support Center do not match the settings in the Agent. Be sure to apply the Agent Settings in Support Center. Multi-user computers are not supported by Connected Backup. Verify that your Agent Rules exclude PAGEFILE.SYS from backups. Iron Mountain Incorporated Connected Backup: Release Notes 11

12 Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Known Issues CB CB CB The number of files that the Agent reports as transmitted to the Data Center does not always match the values reported by the Data Center. The number of files that the Agent displays as selected for backup does not always match the number of files displayed in the Agent History. When an Agent performs full-system backups, the Agent backs up Windows registry files. The number of files selected for backup in the Backup Set tab does not include registry files. The Agent does not select.nsf files for backup during a data-only backup. The default data-only Rule Set does not contain an unlocked rule to select.nsf files for backup. None. None. Verify that your Agent Rules include.nsf files in backups. Mac Agent Backup Issues and Corrective Actions The Mac Agent backup process has the following known issues: CB CB-29144, CB CB If you configure proxy settings for HTTP, the Mac Agent cannot connect to the Agent daemon. The Connected Backup 8.x Agent does not support case-sensitive volume types. Pop-up messages appear only when the Agent is running. The following messages do not appear when the Agent is closed: Missed Backup messages. Backup Limit messages. Pushed messages. Account Move message. This message asks the user to confirm that the account is being moved to another computer. If the Agent is closed, the backup fails. The error message states that the account is in use by another computer. Automatic Backup startup messages. None. None. Ensure that the Agent is running. 13 Known Issues Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes CB The Agent does not back up files with only extended attribute changes. NOTE: This issue occurs only with OS X If you change only the extended attributes of a file, the filter driver does not detect the change. As a result, the Agent does not back up the file. However, if you change other attributes of a file, the filter driver detects the changes and backs up the file. Restart your computer. CB You cannot back up or retrieve renamed volumes. Restart your computer after you rename the volume. You cannot restore files from previously renamed volumes to their original locations because those volumes no longer exist. Agent Retrieve Issues and Corrective Actions The Agent retrieval process has the following known issues: CB If the Windows Search service in Windows 7 is enabled,.pst files that are retrieved are saved to disk with modified file names from how the mail files were originally saved. Disable the Windows 7 Search service before retrieving.pst files. CB When you retrieve a file to the \system32 directory, the location of the file is not validated. Because of file system redirection on 64-bit platforms, the Agent validates the target path before it retrieves data. If you specify a folder in the \system32 directory that does not exist, the Agent cannot validate the retrieval path. Retrieve only to an existing folder in the \system32 directory. CB CB CB You cannot retrieve and replace an existing file if you select show all versions on the Retrieve tab. You cannot use Find to search for a document after you select or clear a file to retrieve. If you select or clear a file for retrieval, and then use the Find feature in the Retrieve tab to search for a file, Find Next does not find the next file that matches your search criteria. If you select a locked directory, its contents cannot be retrieved. Retrieve files without showing all versions. Restart the search using new search criteria. Retrieve the contents of the locked directory, and not the locked directory itself. Iron Mountain Incorporated Connected Backup: Release Notes 13

14 Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Known Issues CB The Find feature in the Retrieve tab finds only one version of a file. When you use Find to search for files and you select All in the Show Versions dropdown, the Agent finds only the first occurrence of a file that has multiple versions. When you select Find Next, the Agent finds the next file that matches the search criteria, but not the next version of the current file. None. PC Agent Operational Issues and Corrective Actions The PC Agent has the following operational issues: CB On a computer with User Account Control (UAC) set to any level other than Never notify, when you use the ZipAgent or ZipAgentCompact tools with the Run as administrator parameter option to create an Agent ZIP file, the tool does not create an Agent ZIP file. Set the level of the UAC to Never notify or disable UAC before you run ZipAgent or ZipAgentCompact with the Run as administrator parameter option. PC Agent Help Issues and Corrective Actions The PC Agent Help feature has the following known issues: CB If you select a topic in the PC Agent Help feature, Help displays the correct article, but the selected Help topic does not highlight correctly in the article. 15 Documentation Updates Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Documentation Updates This section contains late additions to the documentation that were not incorporated into the available guides and online help. Document Administering PC Agents Update In Chapter 9: File Backup, you can configure the version 8.5 Connected Optimizer to store the constituent files relating to a backed-up file in a different folder than the default folder. To change the folder that Optimizer uses for mail file storage and processing, modify the following Windows registry key, based on the Agent computer operating system: Windows 32-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Connected\Agent\Mail Windows 64-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Connected\ Agent\Mail Notes: If you change this Windows registry key for an existing Agent, you must manually remove Connected Optimizer constituent files from the default local folder. If you uninstall an Agent that uses this Windows registry key, you must manually remove the Connected Optimizer files from the specified folder. This sectionexplains how to configure Outlook 2011 for Mac to work with the Connnected Backup Mac Agent, and how to restore an Outlook 2011 mailbox. Outlook 2011 for Mac Support The Connected Backup Agent for Mac now supports Outlook 2011 for Mac. To use Outlook 2011 with the Connected Backup Agent for Mac, the Mac Agent file set now contains two new rules. In addition, a new procedure now explains how to perform the restore process when you include Outlook for 2011 in your backup set. For more information about the application of the additional rules and the contents of V8.5.1.MacOL2011Rules.zip,see the Connected Backup Version for Mac Agent Outlook 2011 Rules ReadMe on the Digital Resource Center at Restore your Outlook 2011 Mailbox To use Connected Backup version or later restore your Outlook 2011 mailbox, complete the following steps: 1. Quit all Microsoft applications. 2. Stop the Microsoft Database Daemon. To do so, complete the following steps: a. Open the Activity Monitor. To do so, click the Activity Monitor icon in the Dock. b. Locate the Microsoft Database Daemon process in the Activity Monitor window, and then click Quit Process. The Quit Process window opens. c. Click Quit. 3. Open the Microsoft Database Utility, which has the following default location: Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/Microsoft Database Utility. 4. Double-click the Identity that you want to restore, and then rename the Identity to Identity_old. 5. Open the Connected Backup Agent for Mac, and then select the Retrieve view. 6. In the Backed-up Files pane, locate the Data Records folder for your Identity. The location for the Data Records folder is Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/<identity>/Data Records. 7. Select the Data Records folder, and then click Retrieve. You receive a prompt to select a retrieve location. 8. Select Original Location > Retrieve. 9. Open the Microsoft Database Utility. Select the Identity that you want to retrieve, and set this Identity to Default. To do so, click Action, and then select Set as Default. 10. Click Rebuild. 17 Documentation Updates Chapter 1: Connected Backup Release Notes Document Update 11. During the Rebuild process, the Microsoft Database Utility creates a new database and a copy of the Identity. Delete the copy of the Identity. Note: The following is sample text to help identify the copy of the Identity: Main Identity: [Backed up ] To delete the copy of the Identity, select the copy, and then click the minus (-) button in the bottom left corner of the Microsoft Database Utility window. After you delete the copy of the Identity, close the Microsoft Utility window. 12. Start Microsoft Outlook. The application restores your local files, and when you reconnect to your mail server, Outlook 2011 updates your inbox. Administering Mac Agents Installing PC Agents Installing PC Agents In Chapter 9: File Backup, the Mac Agent has a selection and backup limit of 300,000 files, which was increased from 100,000 files. If you select more than 300,000 files for backup might cause backup errors and performance degradation might occur. In Chapter 4: Remove/Uninstall, if you change the location of the Connected Optimization constituent file location for an Agent, you must manually remove the constituent files after you remove the Agent from a computer. In Chapter 1: Install, Chapter 2: Recover/Reinstall, and Chapter 3: Upgrade, when you install, recover, or upgrade an Agent using the command-line installation program, you must use the /qb verbosity mode on Windows 7 computers if UAC is enabled and set to any level other than Never notify.
