5 Overview The PI System Management Tools (PI SMT) 2016 R2 provides PI System Administrators with a suite of applications that provide management functionality for the PI Data Archive. PI System Management Tools A host application and a suite of plug-ins that provide management functionality. PI System Tray Monitor Services and message logs for your PI Data Archive and PI AF Server. PI Collective Manager Create and monitor the health of PI Collectives. PI Module Database Builder Excel add-in which allows you to create, modify, and delete items in your PI Module Database PI Builder Excel add-in which allows you to create, modify, and delete PI Points on your PI Data Archive as well as objects on your PI AF Server PowerShell Tools for the PI System Microsoft PowerShell module that allows you to use scripting to manage your PI Data Archive and now AF Server PI Interface Configuration Utility Configure and manage your interfaces. 12 Collective manager crashes while copying files to a secondary server if server's FQDN is defined using an IP address Known issues with PI Module Database Builder Work Item Description When importing to a file, fields should be wrapped in quotes to allow for items with comma's in them Behavior of unchecking 'Module' under Import Add support for Excel 2007 ribbon UI MDBBuilder_readme.htm is not removed on upgrade Cannot delete PI Aliases when the PI Point that the PI Alias points to does not exist Module Database Builder does not preserve the linked module Setup Operating Systems This release supports Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 10, and Windows Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the applicable operating systems are supported Server Platforms PI SMT Support for the various PI Server versions depends on the plug-in being used. If a feature provided by a plug-in is not supported on a particular server version, the user will be notified of this by PI SMT. Most plugins are supported by PI Data Archive or higher. PI System Tray PI System Tray works with PI Data Archive or later, and PI AF Server 2.x. PI Collective Manager PI Collective Manager requires PI Data Archive or later. PowerShell Tools for the PI System PowerShell Tools for the PI System require PI Data Archive or later, and PI AF Server 2.7 or later. PI Module Database Builder PI Module Database Builder requires PI Data Archive 3.3 or later. PI Interface Configuration Utility OSIsoft Release Notes Page 8

13 PI Interface Configuration Utility supports PI Data Archive 3.3 or later. Windows PowerShell PowerShell Tools for the PI System requires Windows PowerShell 4.0 or higher. Windows PowerShell 4.0 is included with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. The log file lists the details of the installation process and provides useful information for OSIsoft technical support staff. Each time the install or uninstall executes, the file is overwritten. After a successful installation, this file may also be found in the DAT subdirectory of PIHOME. For example, in C:\Program Files\PIPC\DAT\SetupPISMT3.log. 16 To install SMT silently and limit the plug-ins that are installed, some properties need to be specified on the command line. These command line arguments can be specified in the silent.ini in the entry for PISMT3.msi. For example, to silently install SMT without the Alarms or the Batch plug-ins, the following could be used: REBOOT=Suppress ALLUSERS=1 /qn INSTALLALARMS=0 INSTALLBATCH=0 The INSTALLALARMS and INSTALLBATCH parameters are case sensitive. Here is a list of all pismt3.msi specific parameters: Setting any of these properties on the command line equal to zero will prevent that plug-in from being installed. By default, all plug-ins are installed. Uninstalling PI System Management Tools PI System Management Tools can be uninstalled through the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel. Excel must be closed to uninstall PI Module Database Builder. Files that are part of the PI API and PI SDK are not uninstalled during the removal of PI System Management Tools. Documentation Overview Help for each product is included in a help files accessible via that product s Help menu. PowerShell Tools for the PI System The PowerShell Tools for the PI System is a collection of cmdlets that can be called from within Microsoft PowerShell. These cmdlets support connecting to a PI Data Archive Servers and now PI AF Servers. For a list of all the cmdlets installed by PowerShell Tools for the PI System, run the following command in Microsoft PowerShell: Get-Command OSIsoft.PowerShell\* Help for each cmdlet provided in the PowerShell Tools for the PI System can be accessed from within Microsoft PowerShell by using the Get-Help command. For example, to get the full help on the Connect-AFServer cmdlet, run the following command: Get-Help Connect-AFServer Full OSIsoft Release Notes Page 12

17 The following example scripts are also included as samples for using the cmdlets included with PowerShell Tools for the PI System. Each script contains comments describing the actions being taken.
