3 Preface This installation guide describes how to install StorView which manages and maintains N F SATA disk array units for NEC Express5800 series machines on Linux. StorView should be installed in a server machine to which one or more N F SATA disk array units are connected. This guide is intended for the readers having sufficient knowledge of the features and operation of Linux. See the online help or other information sources on the operating systems for unknown matters. The screen displays in the text may be slightly different from the actual ones. For the details of N F SATA disk array unit, refer to the proper documentation coming with the unit. Legends The following 2 symbols are used in the text. Outline StorView is a utility for the management of N F SATA disk array units, and is a Web (HTTP) server application using Web browsers as client for the configuration, monitoring and maintenance of N F SATA disk array units. The browsers should be used on only the servers in which StorView has been installed. The functions via a network from other servers are not supported Major Features StorView provides the following 3 features. - Configuration The configuration feature allows arrays to be configured or reconfigured easily on GUI. - Monitoring StorView monitors the information on array status and resource usage status to display the contents graphically. StorView registers events and errors in defined files as logs. - Maintenance StorView manages and maintains disk array systems through GUIs. It can provide hard disk drive rebuilding, hot spare selection, and array initialization. Refer to StorView Ver.3 Operation Guide for N F for the features above

Installation Flow Install several software products and provide them with proper settings according to the following procedure below. - Do the following procedure as root user. - Under a cluster environment, please do following procedure on both servers. START Has any latest StorView been installed? YES To verify the installed StorView and its version, refer to 2.2 Installation. The version of the latest StorView is NO END Uninstall the installed Report Table. Refer to Setup of Report Table. Uninstall the older StorView. Refer to 2.3 Uninstallation. Install a latest StorView. Verify the version of StorView and if it functions normally. Refer to 2.2 Installation. Please see the next page - 6 -

8 2. Setup of StorView 2.1. Operation Environment This section describes the operation environment of the hardware and software required to operate StorView. Hardware - Server : NEC Express5800/100 series connected with N F SATA disk array unit(s). - Unused Capacity of Hard Disk Drive : 60MB or larger (excluding the required capacity for the installation of a Web browser) Software - Netscape 7.0 or higher - Mozilla 0.9 or higher For Linux distributions on which StorView is available, refer to SATA disk array unit in the following Web site. 9 2.2. Installation Preparation for Installation The following preparations are required for the installation of StorView. - Login as root user. - TCP/IP settings have already been completed. - An optimal SCSI controller driver has already installed and loaded. Input the following command to verify if an optimal SCSI controller driver has been installed. # lsmod grep mptscsih mptscsih xxxxxx yy The message above means the driver has been loaded. In the message above, xxxxxx shows the size of the driver, and yy the number of handles using the driver. For the SCSI controller driver, please acquire it by other means How to Install Install StorView according to the following procedure. - Input the following command to verify the installed StorView. # rpm -qi StorView - When the command above has been input, sometimes the following error messages may be displayed, and the installation may fail. In that case, install the required package in the error message, and install StorView again. Error: Failed dependencies: XXXXXXXXXX is needed by YYYYYYYYYY Suggested resolutions: ZZZZZZZZZZ Required package - StorView modules will be installed under /opt/storview directory. - StorView service is stopped right after its installation. So if you want to monitor your N F SATA disk array unit(s), StorView service requires to be started. Input the following command to start StorView service, then start the Web browser. # /etc/rc.d/init.d/storview start 1) Verify the downloaded RPM file, and input the following command to install StorView. # rpm -Uvh storview-sata-3.02-xxxx.rpm (3.02-xxxx: The version of installing StorView) The installation of StorView will start, and the messages for license agreement will be displayed. Input the following command to verify the details of the RPM file. # rpm -qpi storview-sata-3.02-xxxx.rpm 2) Read the messages for license agreement in detail, and input yes or y. Read the contents scrolled by SPACE key, and when the following message is displayed, input yes or y. Do you agree to the above license terms? [yes or no] Then, the menu to select StorView License Manager will be displayed

10 3) Select 1 (StorView Remote Manager). When the menu below to select StorView License Manager is displayed, input 1. Select a StorView License Manager: 1. StorView Remote Manager - Provides local & remote access plus monitoring failover. 2. StorView Global Manager - Provides local & remote access plus full global access w/ alerts. q. Exit Enter choice : Then, the message to register your user name will be displayed. 4) Register your user name. When the message below to register your user name is displayed, input your user name. Please enter a USER NAME: The user name can be different from the one registered in the operating system. Please input a user name you like. The input user name is essential for the operation of StorView on Web browser after the installation. Please administer it paying sufficient attention to loss. Then, the message to register your password will be displayed. 5) Register your password. When the message below to register your password is displayed, input your password. Please enter a PASSWORD: After the input above, the message below for confirmation will be displayed. as that above. Input the same password Please confirm the PASSWORD: - A password must be input. An empty password cannot be input. - The password can be different from the one of a user who has been registered in the operating system. Please input a password you like. - The maximum number of characters of the password is 32, and alphabet and number characters are available. The input password is essential for the operation of StorView on Web browser after the installation. Please administer it paying sufficient attention to loss. Then, the installation of StorView will start. After the completion of installation, the following message will be displayed. ###### INSTALLATION COMPLETED ###### After the installation, please implement Alert Report function according to the procedure in 3. Environmental Setting as your occasion demands

11 How to Start StorView, How to Verify Version According to the following procedure, please verify the version of the installed StorView, and do that StorView has been running normally. StorView can be operated under X-window(GUI) environment. If X-window has not started, please input the following command to start it. # startx 1) Start a Web browser. Start a Web browser by X-window menu or an icon. 2) Input the address for StorView server to the address bar. Input the following address to the address bar of Web browser in order to access StorView server. or If the access succeeds, the dialog box to confirm a user name and its password will be popped up. 3) Input your user name and password for login. On the dialog box to confirm a user name and its password, input your user name and password registered in installing StorView, and click OK button for login. If the login succeeds, the main screen of StorView will be displayed. 4) Verify the version of StorView. Click ABOUT button on StorView screen (see the right picture), and verify the version of the installed StorView

12 Under a cluster environment, StorView screen of the server, whose monitoring function has been disabled, is displayed as the right picture. In this case, click Take Control button to enable the function, then verify the version of StorView

13 2.3. Uninstallation How to Uninstall Uninstall StorView according to the following procedure. 1) Login as root user. 2) Uninstall StorView. Input the following command to uninstall StorView. # rpm -ev StorView After the completion of uninstallation, the following message will be displayed. ## Package StorView-3.02-xxxx uninstalled successfully (3.02-xxxx: The version of installing StorView) After the uninstallation, please remove Alert Report function according to the procedure in 3. Enviromental Setting as your occasion demands

14 3. Environmental Settings 3.1. Setup of Alert Report If you want to implement Alert Report function of N F SATA disk array unit, according to the following procedure, install a Report Table in the server in which NEC ESMPRO Agent has been installed, and configure optimal settings of Alert Report on the server in which NEC ESMPRO Manager has been installed Setup of Report Table Input the following command to verify the installed Report Table. # rpm -qi storview-alert-sata-eng How to Install Install Report Table according to the following procedure. 1) Login as root user. 2) Verify the downloaded RPM file, and input the following command to install Report Table. Input the following command, and install Report Table. # rpm -ivh storview-alert-sata-eng-x.xx-xx.i386.rpm (x.xx-xxxx: The version of installing Report Table) Input the following command to verify the details of the RPM file. # rpm -qpi storview-alert-sata-eng-x.xx-xx.i386.rpm Now the installation is over How to Unistall Uninstall Report Table according to the following procedure. 1) Login as root user. 2) Uninstall Report Table. Input the following command to uninstall Report Table. # rpm -ev storview-alert-sata-eng Now the uninstallation is over

15 Setting of Alert Report According to the following procedure, configure Alert Report settings on the server in which NEC EMSPRO Manager has been installed. 1) Run the downloaded STRALERT.EXE. Setting the alert registry dialog box will be displayed. The downloaded file is a EXE type, not SELF-EXTRACT. 2) Click Yes. The registry setting of Alert Report will start, then a dialog box corresponding to its completion will be displayed. 3) Click OK. 4) Reboot the server to enable the settings. Now the setting of Alert Report is over

16 3.2. Setup of Web Browser StorView can perform on the Web browser Netscape 7.0 or higher or Mozilla 0.9 or higher. neither of them, please acquire one by other means, and install it. This section describes how to install Netscape. If you have - For the setup of Mozilla, its attentions and limits, refer to Web sites and so on. - For the attentions and limits of Netscape, refer to Web sites or inquire to the provider How to Install Netscape StorView can be operated under X-window(GUI) environment. If X-window has not started, please start X-window according to the tip in How to Start StorView, How to Verify Version. 1) Login as root user, and input the following command to start X-window. # startx 2) Copy the downloaded compressed file under a directory you like, and uncompress it. Input the following command, and netscape-installer directory will be created right under the directory in which the copied file exists, and several files essential for the installation will be uncompressed under the new directory. # tar -zxvf netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea.tar.gz 3) Run the script file for installation. Run the script file for installation under netscape-installer directory, and a dialog box to confirm the installation will be displayed. #./netscape-installer For the procedure after that above, perform according to the guide in the dialog box. Now the installation of Netscape is over
