Optima Management System Release Notes Version December 2015 These release notes document new features, enhancements, and known issues for Optima version Instructions for use of this product, including the software update instructions, are detailed in the following documents: Optima Management System User/Configuration Guide Optima Management System Administration Guide Rev B adds a Note to Updating the Optima Software on page 13. Optima version includes the following new features: Site Configuration Upgrades (Issue 75928) Alarm Snoozing (Issue 75392) Alarm Fix Actions (Issue 75391) Site Configuration Upgrades Optima Version provides an upgraded site configuration dialog box for direct connect network elements. The upgraded dialog box includes: Site tree functionality Streamlined Add and Edit processes Default view showing only parameters needing to be configured Visual distinctions between default and manually configured parameter values Tooltip descriptions of parameters A Default button to restore any parameter s default value. These upgrades and changes from the Version site configuration dialog are detailed in the following Figures RN1, 2, 3 and 4. Page 2
Add, Delete buttons moved here Edit button (new) Refresh button moved here NEs display in tree form All newly added NEs reside at this level of the tree Previous version Figure RN-1 Site Configuration Initial Display of NEs in Version The Site Configuration dialog is opened by selecting a site from the NE Tree or the Site View Sites list and selecting Configure Site from the right-click menu. This opens the initial Configure Site dialog window shown in Figure RN-1, listing the site s network elements and their types in tree form. Every NE added through this Site Configuration dialog resides one tree level down from the parent site. When the user clicks the Add button in this window as shown in Figure RN-2, blank Category, Type, and Name fields open for the user to complete. When the user selects the Type, Optima autopopulates the parameters for that Type. Page 3
Click Add to configure new NE When Type is selected, parameters needing to be configured appear here Replaces Add NE window in Previous Version Figure RN-2 Site Configuration Add NE dialog The Edit button is enabled only for applications that are direct-connect capable. When the user selects an existing site or NE and clicks Edit, the Site Configuration window for that site or NE appears (preceded by a Warning window advising that the NE has no configurable parameters or is otherwise not configurable, if that is the case). The Category, Type, and Name fields are already completed. and the Parameters in need of configuration are shown below. This is shown on the left in Figure RN-3. The user can return from the Add or Edit windows to the initial Site Configuration window at any time by clicking Cancel. The initial default display of parameters (shown on the left in Figure RN-3) shows those needing configuration, marked with a red exclamation point icon. The user must configure values for these parameters to successfully complete the direct connection. The default display also shows parameters which have been manually configured, which do not necessarily need additional configuration. These are displayed with a green checkmark icon. When the Show all parameters checkbox at lower left is selected, parameters which do not need to be configured display with green checkmark icons. These include parameters with default values and optional parameters. The window at right in Figure RN-3 shows all parameters. Page 4
To see a tooltip Description of any parameter, hover the cursor over the parameter name. See Figure RN-3. Click to assign default value Click in Value column to edit Default view (only parameters needing configuration) Hover cursor over Name to show tooltip Description View Showing All Parameters Figure RN-3 Viewing and Editing NE Parameters To edit a Parameter Value, the user clicks in the Value field to open it for editing. Default values are shown in gray italic type, while manually set values are shown in straight black type. See Figure RN-4. Green icons indicate no configuration needed Gray italic type in Value field is a default value Value fields have drop-down menu options when appropriate Figure RN-4 Viewing and Editing NE Parameters When the configuration is complete, the user clicks Save. The Site Configuration box closes and the site configuration is saved. Page 5
Alarm Snoozing Version offers the Alarm Snoozing feature to abate nuisances caused by bouncing alarms. By enacting the Snooze Alarm feature, an Optima user can head off the need to repeatedly re-acknowledge and re-clear bouncing alarms. The Alarm Snoozing feature is activated from an Actions menu item in Event View, a button at the bottom of the alarm s Event Information window, or a right-click option when hovering over the alarm row in Event View. A popup dialog lets the user configure the duration of the snooze period at 1, 2 or 3 hours. When the Alarm Snoozing feature is active, the snoozing alarm will not accept any state changes, and users will not be able to acknowledge or clear the alarm. The alarm s Status is listed as Snoozed. All of the Snooze menu items and buttons toggle to Unsnooze. The alarm s Event Information window adds Snoozed Event Information including the snooze end time. The snooze expires at the end of the configured duration. or when the user clicks an Unsnooze command. At that point, the alarm status reverts to the Pending state, and the user is able to Acknowledge or Clear the alarm. See the following three Figures. Figure RN-5 Snoozing an alarm from the Actions Menu Page 6

This display is part of an expanded Event Information window. See Figure RN-8 below. User clicks right margin Fix Actions display opens on right side Figure RN-8 Opening the Fix Actions display Page 8
Click to show vendor details Read-only OEM remedy field Users can add or edit model and family information Click to hide/show Fix Actions Click to open fields for editing Figure RN-9 Fix Actions display features The Fix Actions display includes the following fields: Field Fix Agent Remedy from vendor Remedy for model Remedy for family Description The party responsible for undertaking the fix (set by customer) Name of the OEM or vendor that supplied the remedy (top), and the remedy recommended by the OEM. Name of the model giving rise to the event (top), and notes about the model added and edited by users. Name of the family of the model giving rise to the event (top), and notes about the family (pertaining to the listed vendor only) added and edited by users. The Fix Actions display quickly provides Optima users with recommended fixes for alarm scenarios, provided by the OEMs of the devices giving rise to the alarms. Customers provide this information in a file uploaded to Optima. As shown in Figure RN-9, the top of the Fix Actions display shows the Fix Agent (the party responsible to fix alarm situations, as designated by the customer) and identifies the vendor (usually the OEM). Users can click the information icon to open an editable window with details about the vendor. Page 9
Enhancements The field below Remedy from vendor is a read-only remedy from the OEM supplied by the customer. The two fields on the bottom identify the model of the device giving rise to the alarm and the family of that model. Users can add or edit information in both of those fields -- notes based on practical experience in undertaking the fix, for example. The user needs to have the edit-event permission level to edit these fields. The user clicks the edit icon to open these fields for editing. When either field is open for editing, the edit icon is replaced by two other icons. The user clicks the X to cancel the edit or the checkmark to save the edit. Enhancements Optima Version includes the following Enhancements: Alert Banner Removed (Issue 75857) Alert Banner Removed The Flash Alert Banner previously shown atop the Main Menu Bar has been removed in Version 11.50, part of an ongoing effort to present a clean and uncluttered GUI. Fixes Optima Version includes the following Fixes: Excessive Open File Descriptors on DMC Server (Issue 75777) Excessive Open File Descriptors on DMC Server On DMC servers with adapters and/or direct connect devices, server functionality was impaired by too many open file descriptors caused by open instances of the trap collector trapsubscribers.xml file. This was caused by issues in the Module and Applications, and was fixed outside of Optima. Known Issues Review the following known issues prior to upgrading your Optima software to version 11.50: Right-Click View Events Command Failure in IE9 (Issue 75841) Page 10
Known Issues Right-Click View Events Command Failure in IE9 Description: The View Events popup window from an NE menu does not appear in response to the right-click menu command when using IE9. Workaround: Use the Open Event View menu item instead of View Events. Page 11
