3 New Features Remote RMX-3200 Intelligent Remote Site Management Device Release Notes Version 5.00 September 2012 These release notes document new features and enhancements for Remote RMX-3200 version This document also provides software update instructions for version Instructions for use of this product are detailed in the following documents: Remote RMX-3200 Intelligent Remote Site Management Device Command Reference Guide Remote RMX-3200 Intelligent Remote Site Management Device Configuration Guide Remote RMX-3200 Intelligent Remote Site Management Device Installation Guide New Features Remote RMX-3200 version 5.00 includes the following new features: SSH Client (Issue 71345) Support for IPv6 (Issue 72014) Support for Module-Defined Status Points (Issue 72659) Individual Port Management on Remote RME-E8 Expansion Card (Issue 72660) Site VPN (Issue 72661) SSH Client Remote RMX-3200 now provides an SSH client that enables users to create outgoing connections from the Remote RMX-3200 to remote network elements. Use new CLI command ssh to create outgoing connections from the Remote RMX Note: The SSH client on the Remote RMX-3200 provides basic terminal and command access to a remote device. Only a subset of the SSH client features are supported. 1
4 New Features Support for IPv6 Remote RMX-3200 now supports both IPv6 and dual IPv4/IPv6 interfaces. Use new parameter ipv6 for CLI commands config interface bridge switch and config interface ethernet to configure an IPv6 address for an interface or to enable or disable IPv6 functionality on an interface. Use show interfaces to display current interface configuration information, including information for IPv6. Use new parameter route-v6 for CLI command config ip to configure static IPv6 routes. Default static IPv6 routes can be configured, but there is not a factory default static IPv6 route. Use show ip to display current static route configuration information, including information for IPv6. Use new CLI command diag ip route-v6 to display diagnostic IPv6 route information. Support for Module-Defined Status Points Remote RMX-3200 now supports module-defined status points for NEs at a site. Use new parameter status-points for CLI command show site network-elements to display status point information for a specified NE at a site. Use new originator status-point for command config alarm-entry event to configure a status point trigger event that will activate an entry in the central alarm table. Individual Port Management on Remote RME-E8 Expansion Card Each port on a Remote RME-E8 expansion card can now be managed individually. Users can enable, disable, or display configuration information for each individual RME-E8 port. Use CLI command config controller ethernet unit/port to enable or disable an RME-E8 port. Use show controllers ethernet to display current port configuration information. Site VPN Remote RMX-3200 now provides secure, remote access to NEs at a site over a VPN. Kentrox Redirect is used to initiate a VPN connection from the client computer to the Remote RMX The clients can then connect to the NEs over the established VPN connection. The Remote RMX-3200 supports multiple VPN connections, but Redirect can only establish a VPN connection to a single Remote RMX-3200 at a time. 2
5 Enhancements Use the following new options/parameters for CLI command config controller openvpn to configure site VPN: site-server (new option for parameter mode) to configure the OpenVPN controller in the site server mode allow-access to configure the IP addresses and the UDP or TCP ports which are allowed to be accessed via the site VPN connection client-route to configure the interface (Ethernet or bridge) whose networks are used to route clients to the Remote via the VPN connection protocol to configure the protocol (TCP or UDP) used for communication Use new parameter client-count for command show controllers openvpn to display information about the clients connected to the site VPN sever. Enhancements Remote RMX-3200 version 5.00 includes the following enhancements: Error Conditions Handled Properly (Issue 72578) 128-Bit SSL Key Required (Issue 72592) Non-Responsive SNMP v3 Hosts No Longer Interfere With Other SNMP Requests (Issue 72732) Error Conditions Handled Properly Error conditions that occured when Remote RMX-3200 tried to remove a failed NE configuration are now being handled properly, and, therefore, NEs no longer remain in a waitingneconfig state. 128-Bit SSL Key Required Remote RMX-3200 now requires the use of 128-bit or greater SSL keys to ensure the strongest level of security possible. Non-Responsive SNMP v3 Hosts No Longer Interfere With Other SNMP Requests When attempting to communicate with an SNMP v3 host that is not responding, the Remote RMX-3200 no longer waits for these requests to time out before responding to other SNMP requests. 3
6 The following sections provide information on updating your Remote RMX-3200 software to version 5.00 and your RMB-1 expansion unit software to version A new version of the expansion unit software for non RMB-1 peripherals has been released recently, and you will need to update your unit(s) with the new version 1.70 software Note: It is not necessary to update the Remote RMX-3200 stage 2 bootloader.
