Read Data from Database and input in Flight Reservation login logout and add Check point in QTP: In this tutorial we will read data from mysql database and give the input to login process of flight reservation. Before start the recording the test we have to setup mysql and data source name of mysql ODBC driver. Follow below steps to set up the mysql database and ODBC driver.. 1. Download mysql zip file based on your OS and ODBC driver from below link Extract all files under mysql directory and keep under C drive and install MySql-ODBC- Driver. 3. After installation of both, time to create one DSN for mysql which will use to read data from mysql database. 4. Go to start->control panel->administrative tools -> Data Source(ODBC). Look at the below snapshot of ODBC. 5. Go to System DSN and click on Add button. Search MYSQL ODBC 3.51 driver and select that then click on finish button. Look at the below image

2 One window will appear where you can add your DSN. Now give the name of input to Data Source Name. give the description if you want. Now in Server field write localhost, in User field write root, leave the password field blank because there is no password to root user. Now select the database mysql in Database list. You can test the connection what you are going to use and click on OK button. Your DSN will save into system DSN. Look at the below image.

3 Now click on OK to finish this. 6. Go to mysql installed directory. Go to bin folder under that. Search mysqld.exe and click on that. mysqld.exe starts the mysql server. 7. Now we need to open mysql client window where we can write queries and execute. press CTRL+R to open run window and type cmd for command prompt. Press OK button to open command prompt.

4 8. Type cd\ into cmd window and press enter to move out from under directories except C drive. Now enter cd mysql/bin into command window to move in bin directory of mysql directory. 9. Now type mysql u root to login as root.

5 10. Now write use mysql; into command and enter. Now mysql database is in use. 11. Write create table statement create table flight_user(id int, username varchar(10), pass varchar(8)); and click enter. 12Ẉrite insert query to insert data into flight_user table insert into flight_user(1, qaonline, mercury ); and click enter. Now data is ready in mysql. Continue the steps Before record the Flight Reservation system, we have to change the record setting for windows based recording if you are creating new test. Follow the steps.

6 1. To perform Flight Reservation Login and logout test with UFT, before we will create a Test like create a project. Go to New ->Test 2. After select Test menu, you will see one dialog where you will GUI Test, API Test etc. Choose GUI Test to perform Flight Reservation Test and click on create button. Go to Record menu->record and running setting. One Window will be appear, where you will find two Tabs Now you have to choose first option for Web to perform Windows Applications otherwise Browser will open if second option selected.

7 Now click on Windows Applications and click on first option Record and run test on any open Windows-based application. Now click on apply button and OK button. Look at the below snapshot Now it is time to record windows based application and perform automation. Follow the steps 1. Click on record->record. Now recording is started. Go to start->all programs ->HP Software ->HP Unified Functional Testing ->Sample Applications->flight GUI. Click on flight GUI. See the below snapshot

8 2. After click on Flight GUI, a login window will appear. 3. Provide the username. Username can be something but length of username should be 4 or more than Click on password field and provide password as mercury. Password should be mercury. After that click on Ok button. Now you logged.

9 5. It is time to add checkpoint to check our flight reservation automation is working of not. To do this, click on checkpoint icon on recording box. When you will click on icon you will see list of checkpoints. Choose first checkpoint (Standard Checkpoint). Then Pointer cursor will appear. Now go to Flight Reservation window Title bar and click on that. A window will appear which indicates your checkpoint which you select

10 In above image you can see Window: Flight Reservation. This is your checkpoint, now click on OK. After one Checkpoint properties will show. You can see the properties of Checkpoint which will be use to check Window Title Name. Now click on OK button after that your checkpoint will add to test and continue other process. 6. To logout from this, close the Flight Reservation window and stop the recording by click on stop button on recording box. 7. Now you can see recorded steps in VBscript. 8. Now it is time to read xml file and give the input to Agent Name and Password.

11 9. Now add the following code in Editor. This code will add the before the recorded script Dim con,rs Set con = CreateObject("adodb.connection") Set rs = CreateObject("adodb.recordset") con.open "DSN=mysql1;SERVER=localhost;USERNAME=root;PASSWORD=;" rs.open "select username,pass from flight_user where id=1",con Here DSN=mysql1, mysql1 is my DSN. Please choose DSN what you have created. Then should be your recorded script Look at the above snapshot, you have to change two lines : Dialog( Login ).winedit( Agent Name ) and Dialog( Login ).winedit( Password ) to You script should be like below snapshot In above snapshot you can see query, there is no where condition but you have to add where condition Remaining steps are same as other test cases 10. It is time to run this test case perform automate. Click on Run icon to execute this test case. 11. There are some snapshots of automation test case.

12 Above snapshot is Run Results Viewer where you can see result. It indicates that you test is execute successfully with no error.
