1 Panopto 5.5 Release Notes Panopto Release Notes Headline features Canvas Gradebook Integration Panopto sessions can now be added as assignments in the Canvas LMS, and students scores on Panopto quizzes within the session will be reported as the grades to the Canvas gradebook. The RTMP Relay feature is now generally available. Hardware encoders that output RTMP can now be directed at your Panopto site to create a live webcast for Panopto viewers and will automatically be converted into a video-on-demand session upon completion. [private beta] Playlists Playlists allow sessions from any folder within a Panopto site to be presented together in a single, ordered list. Behavior changes (these features have changed from 5.4.0) The RTMP Relay feature is now generally available. The My Folders selector in the Browse section of the navigation bar has changed from a drop-down menu to tabs. Modified the Browse section of the navigation bar to be expanded by default. In the HTML Editor, thumbnail events on the primary stream now appear in the Contents section, making it easier to add text. Adding text will cause the events to show in the Contents section within the Viewer. Bug fixes and minor changes Statistics The Session usage stats report has been augmented to show the full folder hierarchy for each session. This makes it possible to aggregate viewing data across hierarchies of subfolders. [beta] Video podcasts can be generated in HLS format. (This feature is off by default.) Interactive Viewer Cleaned up the UI layout of the viewer s header bar by unifying text size and color. The order of the folder name and session name were changed to align with web conventions for breadcrumb navigation. The session date and username were removed. Fixed a problem on Firefox where some sessions would intermittently start playing without audio.

2 VCMS Editor Search Ensured that if the interactive viewer is launched via SCORM and the session is part of an ordered folder, the viewer won t recommend the next session. Modified RSS feeds to output links to sessions with HTTPS. Improved accessibility by adding missing aria tags. Ensured admin users can always download all client applications, regardless of the browser-reported operating system. Fixed some translation problems in German. Fixed an issue where session copies did not include ASR or OCR captions. Integrations Canvas Gradebook Integration: Panopto sessions can now be added as assignments in the Canvas LMS, and students scores on Panopto quizzes within the session will be reported as the grades to the Canvas gradebook. Panopto now supports the ContentItem LTI specification for embedding content in external systems. As an improvement from the beta of this feature, ContentItem now fully supports users from consolidated identity providers. Modified the PublicAPI ISessionManagement.GetCreatorFolderInfoList to exclude PersonalFolders to ensure user s personal folders cannot be used for course provisioning. Fixed a problem where LTI links from D2L would occasionally return an error code when clicked by specific users. Fixed a problem where setting the default identity provider could sometimes fail. Added an audit log entry whenever IDP settings are adjusted or IDPs are deleted. Modified the default setting for Personal Folders to Creators. Added a link to the IDP page to show admins how to reveal all providers for sign-in testing, even hidden providers. Fixed a problem where the string panoptointernal was shown on the user modal for users in the integrated Panopto identity provider.

3 Processing The processing of UCS uploads has been modified to better handle sessions with very large numbers of streams, allowing them to consistently process successfully. Settings changes Inaccessible parent folders When a user has access to subfolder, but not to its parents, all inaccessible parent folder names will be visible. In Panopto 5.4, these inaccessible parents would be displayed as Private. Personal folders Personal folders for Creators (first introduced in Panopto 5.2) will be enabled for all sites and identity providers. This setting can be disabled by administrators. Quizzes Interactive video quizzing (introduced in Panopto 5.3) will be enabled for all sites and can be disabled by administrators. User names in discussions Panopto 5.3 added a new setting called DisplayFullNamesInDiscussion that shows user names (e.g. John Doe ) in discussions rather than the user key (e.g. canvas/jdoe17 ) to improve discussion readability. All Panopto sites will be set to display user names in discussions, and administrators may choose to disable this setting. Panopto for Windows Added the capability to delete recordings after automatic upload. This is controlled by a setting, defaults to off. Added support for NV12 pixel format The post-recording dialog will now automatically close and upload the session after one minute. (Previously was five minutes.) Service Updates Service update Fixed an issue where the Browse section of the navigational bar would sometimes show a 'spinner' when nothing was loading. Fixed an issue where the navigational bar did not properly remember the expand/collapse state of on page load when all sections were last collapsed. Fixed an issue causing an error to be returned by the IUsageReporting.GetSessionDetailedUsage Public API. Service update Optimized a SQl query to improve the performance of Moodle provisioning (no functional changes). Service update Fixed an issue where searches in the folder picker containing 'stop words' did not return correct results. Removed the 'more sign-in options' link from the mobile-specific sign-in page. Fixed an issue preventing full-screening a stream in the interactive viewer when it was hosted inside an iframe. Updated translations for some text added in Panopto 5.5.

4 Fixed an issue where an error page was shown when instructors or admins attempted to load an assignment video in Canvas. Fixed an issue where bulk provisioning for D2L could sometimes time out when running on a slow internet connection or for very large amounts of data. Fixed an issue where the Browse section of the navigational bar would incorrectly show a 'spinner' when all sections were collapsed. Service update Playlists are now available on production cloud sites. This is an opt-in feature, available via the site setting " Playlists Enabled." Improved accessibility by adding aria tags in the interactive viewer and the session list pages. The interactive viewer will no longer hide the video images when a menu is shown that overlaps the video. Translation updates for Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Danish, Thai, and Turkish. Improved the performance of session copy. Improved the performance of stats reports. Modified 'ready to view' s to make them easier to read. Added a site setting to allow disabling Notes channels, " Enable Custom Notes Channels", the default is " True." Added a site setting to allow automatically resuming the interactive viewer from the last playback position, " Resume Viewer Playback From Last Position", the default is " False." Modified the Remote Recorder list interface to prevent non-admin users from having the rights to delete a Remote Recorder. Updated the description of Caption Providers to make it clear that turnaround time is in business days, not calendar days. Fixed a problem in the HTML editor that prevented captions from being applied to additional primary streams, when they are selected. Fixed a problem in the HTML editor that prevented captions that were previously imported as 'automatic captions' from later being deleted. Service update Fixed an issue where large file uploads from windows clients would very occasionally fail to complete. Fixed an issue where playlists that were shared with 'Anyone at your organization with the link' would show an error when loaded. Service update Internal infrastructure updates. Service update Fixed an issue with unified accounts where access was not correctly synchronized for all providers on the sign in. Fixed an issue where adding parent folders in Moodle would sometimes fail. Fixed an issue with the Basic LTI identity provider where LTI Content-Item could not result in an error page. Implemented support for Hive optimization of webcasts conducted through Panopto's RTMP Relay service.

5 Fixed screen reader compatibility issues in the interactive viewer, improving screen reading with Firefox and NVDA. Fixed playback issues in the interactive viewer in Firefox. Fixed a localization issue in the viewer where multiple secondary streams, when cut to the same start time, did not start in a consistent order. Bookmarks can now be deleted from the bookmarks list view. Fixed an issue where session stats could display in an error message when loaded from the session list. Fixed small UX layout issues with the playlist overlay in the embedded and interactive viewers. Improved the usability of all modal pages in the VCMS by allowing clicks outside the modal window to close the modal. Fixed issues with EULA acceptance when visiting from an embedded link. Fixed an issue where users couldn't be deleted using the VCMS. Modified the "Download Panopto" modal to offer the correct down-level version of Panopto for Mac to users on OSX Fixed an issue with the date picker in the Safari browser when the user's region is set to Canada. Fixed an issue with modifying Scheduled Recording end times. Fixed an issue when Scheduled Recordings were given invalid start and end times. Fixed an issue where the Remote Recorder could fail to 'Start recording now' in cases where there was significant clock skew between the client and server. Fixed an issue where the editor would perform slowly when loading a session with very large numbers of events. Fixed an issue with the editor where quizzes could be placed outside the session timeline. Fixed an issue where the editor could, incorrectly, be loaded for in-progress webcasts. Fixed an issue with speech-to-text to ensure it processes all primary streams in a session. Fixed an issue where tablet encodes wouldn't complete if the session was edited while still processing. Service update Fixed an issue with the file upload service where certain types of intermittent internal I/O errors were not properly handled. Service update Video playback Fixed accessibility issues with volume controls and the mute button in the interactive web viewer. Fixed an issue with default secondary tab selection for sessions containing both slides and video. Fixed an issue with playing embedded videos using Safari's new autoplay feature. Fixed a performance issue when webcasts contained many comments. Video Upload Localization Fixed an issue with uploading files with long filenames. Fixed an issue with session durations in some locales.

6 Editor Fixed a performance issue when loading sessions with a large Table of Contents in the Editor. Fixed an issue with editing Automatic Machine Captions Immediately after import. Integrations and Identity Providers: Fixed an issue in Moodle where duplicate personal folders (private sandboxes) were sometimes created for users. Fixed an issue where some users were not redirected to the site after signing in using SAML and accepting the End-User License Agreement (EULA). Improved reliability and performance when using the batch-provision feature with Desire2Learn (Brightspace). Fixed an issue where admin users couldn't see Quizzes when clicking assignment links in Canvas. Admin features Added the ability to create configurable links and alert messages for admins and users. Added the ability to add 3 more custom links to the help menu. User management Fixed a UI issue where clicking on the "User Sign-in" modal could cause the window to close some cases. Fixed an issue where viewer users appeared to still have creator rights even after Assignment Folders or Personal Folders were removed. Improved the security of password reset so that resetting a user's password will force the user to sign in again on all devices. Improved the error message that admins see when using the Merge and Delete User feature with users that don't exist. On-Prem Release Fixed an issue introduced in 5.5 where the System Status page under the disk space consumed under 'Server info'. Fixed a problem with video durations when the Panopto server was run as a non-english locale (this is not recommended). Added a beta feature to display a copyright notice before the start of all videos. The feature is enabled be the following settings: Set "Enable Copyright Notice" to true Set "Show Copyright Notice On All Sessions" to true Set "Copyright Notice Text" to the desired copyright text Service update Admin features The Caption Request downloadable csv report now includes the folder name, making it easier to associate captioning requests to courses and departments. Improved the performance of the License Plan page so that it loads more quickly. Added an additional privacy control by introducing a new site setting that hides group membership from everyone except the creator of the group and admin users. The new setting is called "Hide Group Members from Creators."

7 Added the ability for admins to hide the download link for the Panopto client applications. The new site setting is called "Show Recorder Download link to Non-Admin Users". Identity Provider Integrations Added a federated sign-out capability to Panopto, to allow external systems to sign a user out of Panopto when they sign out of the external system: Support document. Video playback Fixed an issue with viewing RTMP webcasts on ios. Video upload Fixed an issue where uploading videos with non-square pixels could result in an incorrect aspect ratio during playback. Service update Fixed an issue where podcast processing can fail when sessions contain streams with very short durations. Service update Improved the performance of service calls that happen repeatedly during live webcasts. Service update Fixed an issue with Panopto for Windows where if the computer or application crashes at the moment the application it writing an update to the recorder manifest file, the session will not automatically upload. Fixed an issue where the Remote Recorder would occasionally fail to start recordings via the tray icon in the Windows taskbar due to a race condition in communicating with the server. Fixed an issue where, in rare circumstances, Panopto for Windows could hang when capturing slide information from Powerpoint or when disconnecting from Powerpoint at the end of a recording.
