13 Chapter 1. Planning Architecture Use this information to plan a new installation of Netcool Configuration Manager. For upgrading and migrating from existing installations, see the Migration and Upgrading sections instead. Related information: Installing auto-discoery on page 61 Use this information to install the Netcool Configuration Manager auto-discoery drier. You must install the most current driers before installing auto-discoery. Netcool Configuration Manager can be deployed as either a stand-alone product on one or more serers, or with IBM Tioli Network Manager IP Edition and IBM Tioli Netcool/OMNIbus as part of an integrated solution. All components of Netcool Configuration Manager are installed on each deployed serer. Howeer, the compliance serer component is switched on or off at install time. You can also switch worker serer modes afterwards by running a script. Note: A database must be present before Netcool Configuration Manager is installed. Stand-alone product You can install Netcool Configuration Manager on a single serer or distributed on a number of serers. Optionally, you can install Tioli Common Reporting as part of the same installation procedure. TCR is installed with, and accessed through, the Tioli Integrated Portal. 14 Optionally, you can install Tioli Common Reporting, including the Netcool Configuration Manager reports and the Tioli Integrated Portal. Integrated product You can install Netcool Configuration Manager together with Network Manager and Tioli Netcool/OMNIbus, either on a single serer or on a number of serers. In such an integrated scenario you, install first Network Manager and Tioli Netcool/OMNIbus, before installing Netcool Configuration Manager without Tioli Common Reporting. After this, you install TCR separately into the Network Manager TIP enironment. Note: You can use an existing installation of Network Manager and Tioli Netcool/OMNIbus to create such an integrated solution. 15 Hardware requirements Hardware requirements ary according to the size and composition of your network and the features of Netcool Configuration Manager that you want to use. They are also influenced by your database and operating system configuration, and by whether you install a 32 bit or 64 bit ersion of Netcool Configuration Manager. Ensure that your serers meet at least the minimum hardware requirements before you proceed to an installation. Table 1. Consult the database and OS documentation for more information specific to your OS and database memory needs. 10 GB of space is recommended as a base for initial installation. Requirements may change based on indiidual company needs. The Installer by default uses 5 GB of space in /tmp. If /tmp isn't large enough, IATEMPDIR can be used to specify another directory instead. The IATEMPDIR enironment ariable specifies an alternatie directory into which the Netcool Configuration Manager installer may extract files before actual installation. Howeer, a small amount of data (about 1MB) will be written to /tmp een if IATEMPDIR is being used. Important: When installing Tioli Common Reporting: The IATEMPDIR directory is required when installing Tioli Common Reporting and you must specify a minimum of 10 GB. Important: Fix Pack 3 When using the Prerequisite Scanner tool: The Prerequisite Scanner tool (and Netcool Configuration Manager) will not work if /tmp is mounted with noexec. Gigabit Ethernet 500 GB Your system should hae swap/paging space equialent to half of the RAM allocated. For example, for 10 GB RAM, you should hae 5 GB of paging space. 17 Software requirements Software requirements ary according to the operating system and features of Netcool Configuration Manager that you want to use. Note: When gien a choice, a 64-bit operating system is preferred to a 32-bit operating system. If Juniper deices are to be managed, then a 64-bit operating system should be used. Note: Fix Pack 1 32-bit operating systems are not supported bynetcool Configuration Manager from ersion Fix Pack 1 onwards. Consequently, it is ery strongly recommended that a 64-bit ersion of Netcool Configuration Manager is installed so that the security updates and APAR fixes deliered in Fix Pack 1, and any subsequent fix packs, can be applied. Table 2. Netcool Configuration Manager supported operating systems Item Requirement AIX 6.1 and 7.1 Note: AIX 6.1 and 7.1 are no longer aailable as 32 Bit architecture. Howeer, Netcool Configuration Manager remains aailable for both 32 and 64 Bit ersions of AIX, and both are compatible with AIX 6.1 and 7.1. Linux Package tar aix5.1.ppc.rpm (GNU tar) or later should be installed for Netcool Configuration Manager Tioli Common Reporting, or else the installation will fail. SUSE Linux 10 and 11 (32 and 64 Bit ersions) Solaris 10 and 11 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 (32 and 64 Bit ersions) Restriction: For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Netcool Configuration Manager Tioli Common Reporting is not supported. If you require Tioli Common Reporting on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform, use Version 5 (32 or 64 Bit ersions). The following system libraries must be installed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (32 and 64 Bit ersions), or the installation will fail: glibc el6_1.3.i686 libgcc el6.i686 Table 3. If Solaris uses a time zone Tioli Common Reporting does not recognize, a time zone error will occur when you access Tioli Common Reporting. 20 FIPS requirements Enabling FIPS on Netcool Configuration Manager requires that you run the correct ersion of Driers and that you configure the HTTPS connection setup. Specifically, the following list elaborates on the requirements for enabling FIPS compliance on Netcool Configuration Manager: Driers 14, or aboe Netcool Configuration Manager can operate with a ariety of Drier releases. Howeer, in order to enable FIPS compliance, you must be running with Driers 14, or aboe. Users running an earlier Driers ersion and who want to enable FIPS compliance must upgrade to at least Driers 14. Tip: Always ensure you are running the latest Driers release. Configure the HTTPS connection setup Certificate export/import is required for HTTPS. When Netcool Configuration Manager uses encryption oer HTTPS, FIPS-certified ciphers are used. Therefore, configuring the HTTPS connection setup is a prerequisite for enabling FIPS mode on Netcool Configuration Manager. For more information, see HTTPS connection setup on page 80. 21 Chapter 2. Installing Preparing to install Use this information to install Netcool Configuration Manager. After installation, you perform configuration tasks. For supplementary information on integrating with Network Manager IP Edition and Tioli Netcool/OMNIbus, see the IBM Tioli Netcool Configuration Manager Integration Guide. Before you install a new ersion of Netcool Configuration Manager, you must perform a number of preparatory tasks. Before you begin Important: To install a non-integrated, stand-alone ersion of Netcool Configuration Manager, follow the instructions contained in the following sections. Howeer, for an installation of Netcool Configuration Manager that is to be integrated with Network Manager IP Edition and Tioli Netcool/OMNIbus, see the IBM Tioli Netcool Configuration Manager Integration Guide before you attempt any installation tasks. Ensure you hae downloaded the correct installation files for your operating system. You need three separate installation files to install the three Netcool Configuration Manager installation components, as well as the driers and OOBC installation files. Note: Fix Pack 1 32-bit operating systems are not supported bynetcool Configuration Manager from ersion Fix Pack 1 onwards. Consequently, it is ery strongly recommended that a 64-bit ersion of Netcool Configuration Manager is installed so that the security updates and APAR fixes deliered in Fix Pack 1, and any subsequent fix packs, can be applied. Main installation image These platform-specific images contain the main installation files and are required for all installation scenarios. The platform-specific files are as follows: AIX Linux ITNCM_aix_ppc32.bin, or ITNCM_aix_ppc64.bin ITNCM_linux_ia32.bin, or ITNCM_linux_x86_64.bin Solaris ITNCM_solaris_sparc.bin, or ITNCM_solaris_sparc64.bin Tioli Common Reporting component These platform-specific images contain a separate installer that contains the installation files for the Tioli Common Reporting component. Creating OS user accounts Netcool Configuration Manager requires a system user and an FTP user that belong to the same user group. Before you begin For commands specific to your operating system, refer to your OS documentation. About this task Netcool Configuration Manager operates under the default system user account 'icosuser' and group 'icosgrp'. Additionally, FTP serers that communicate with deices (GUI and Worker), or that process UOWs (Worker), use the default 'icosftp' user account. Icosgrp, icosuser and icosftp can be changed if your administration circumstances require this. Howeer, the two users must belong to the same group. About the FTP user account You must create an FTP user account only on a serer that is to be the FTP serer communicating with deices (GUI & Worker), or that is going to process UOWs (Worker). The FTP user account must be set up and used to create the network deice configuration files, and it must exist on all workers. The FTP user account is also used for FTP communications. Note: Netcool Configuration Manager requires a designated space as a repository for all network deice configuration files. This space will be used regardless of network configuration transfer mode (that is, FTP, TFTP, or streaming). Note: This procedure assumes that the default system user, FTP user, and user group are used. Procedure 1. Log into the machine as root. 2. Create the icosgrp group. Chapter 2. Installing 11

24 3. Add the icosuser user to icosgrp. 4. Set the password for icosuser. Remember: Make a note of the password, as this will be required to complete the installation and administer the product. 5. Add the icosftp user to icosgrp. 6. Set the password for the icosftp user. Remember: Make a note of the password. 7. To allow general access to the icosftp directory, set the folder permissions at 774. What to do next Now, create the installation directories. Creating installation directories You use the mkdir command to create the installation directories on each serer that Netcool Configuration Manager is to be installed. Before you begin About this task You must create the installation directories on each serer Netcool Configuration Manager will be installed. Procedure 1. Log on to the serer as root 2. Execute the following command: mkdir -p /opt/ibm/tioli/netcool/ncm Note: This is the default directory path. 3. Set the permissions on the install directory by typing: chown icosuser:icosgrp /opt/ibm/tioli/netcool/ncm What to do next Now, install the installation directories on the other serers as required. When done, you prepare the database for installation. Preparing the Oracle database Prior to installing or upgrading Netcool Configuration Manager, Oracle database parameters must be set. Before you begin To prepare the Oracle database, you update the database, and then create the Oracle user account, before ensuring that all Netcool Configuration Manager Oracle database users hae the appropriate system permissions. Specify the following SQL*Plus command to specify the number of processes for the Oracle database: ALTER SYSTEM SET PROCESSES=alue from formula SCOPE=SPFILE Oracle must be restarted for these settings to take effect. Before modifying the Oracle processes of an existing Netcool Configuration Manager deployment, it is necessary to stop all serers accessing the database prior to executing any modifications. In addition it is recommended when the application serers are to be started, that each serer is shut down and allowed to restart one at a time before restarting the next one. 26 3. If using Oracle Version 10, set the Cursor Sharing to EXACT using the following SQL *Plus command carried on the Oracle serer: ALTER SYSTEM SET CURSOR_SHARING= EXACT SCOPE=BOTH 4. As the SYSDBA user, create the Oracle user account by executing the following SQL command: CREATE USER icosuser IDENTIFIED BY <password> 5. Using SQL, assign the CONNECT and RESOURCE roles to the user as follows: GRANT connect, resource TO icosuser 6. Assign the CREATE VIEW priilege to the user as follows: GRANT CREATE VIEW TO icosuser 7. Assign the CREATE SESSION priilege to the user as follows: GRANT CREATE SESSION TO icosuser 8. Issue the following SQL statement to allocate LOB chunks more efficiently: ALTER SYSTEM SET EVENT= TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 1024 scope=spfile; 9. Restart the database. What to do next Now, prepare the operating system for installation. Preparing the DB2 database The following steps to prepare the DB2 database assume that you hae already installed your DB2 database instance. Before you begin These steps assume that your DB2 instance owner is 'db2inst1'. If your instance owner is not 'db2inst1' then change 'db2inst1' references to your user. The following steps also assume that the Netcool Configuration Manager database user is different from the instance owner and called 'ncmdbuser'. If you are using db2inst1 as the NCM database user, replace all 'ncmdbuser' references in commands with 'db2inst1'. Procedure 1. Login into DB2 Serer as the instance owner 'db2inst1'. 2. Download the DB2 Run Time Client. The runtime client can be obtained at the IBM Support Portal. a. On the IBM Support Portal, naigate to the Downloads tab and search for the ersion of the DB2 Run Time Client that you want to download. b. Select the appropriate link to display a table that lists the DB2 download packages. c. To download the DB2 Run Time Client, select the appropriate package from the table.
