New in Version 3 Additional input parameter GapOnClose to determine whether daily and weekly gap should be based on close or range. Getting Started TradeStation will install the indicator and a sample workspace during the first platform login after you purchase the Free Trial or monthly subscription. The indicator is named Gap Find H.GAPFIND - you can insert the indicator on any supported interval chart (e.g. right click on the chart, select insert analysis technique, click the Indicator tab, scroll the list until you find the indicator name). 2 The sample workspace will be installed in the default MyWork workspace folder. The workspace will be named Gap Find if your platform version is the same or more recent than what was used by the developer to create the default workspace then you can open the workspace (file->open workspace) as you would with any other workspace. If your TradeStation platform is older then you can not use the default workspace but you can still use the indicator. Only a few steps required to use the indicator: 1. Create a new chart analysis window, set the interval to 5 minutes, insert the symbol SPY, set the SPY Display Time Zone to Exchange (format symbol->settings tab) 2. Insert the Gap Find H.GAPFIND indicator with the default inputs. Your chart should look similar to: where the turquoise lines represent open gaps. If you enable Alerts (see Configuration: Inputs Tab below) then the Update value intra-bar should be checked to ensure the most timely delivery of the alert, otherwise leave it blank. Configuration: Inputs Tab DeleteClosedGap (True/False) When True, the gap line is deleted when price returns to the open gap. If False, then the gap line remains on the chart, but is truncated.

The following picture shows the difference in appearance on a SPY daily chart. Think of DeleteClosedGap as a research tool to visualize how open gaps close. When DeleteClosedGap = False more platform resources are used and may impact platform performance. 5 GapOnClose (True/False) Only valid when the chart is in weekly or daily interval. When True, the gap analysis results in Gap on Close and is determined by comparing the opening candle of the new period with the close price of the last period. When False, the gap analysis results in Gap on Range and is determined by comparing the opening candle of the new period with the range of the last period. To generate an alert, go to the alerts tab. Check Enable Alert. The When alert condition is true section must be set as follows: You may choose any method for the Message Center notification settings. Review the TradeStation platform help if you want to create custom settings. Also check Update value intra-bar in the General tab. Note: running any analysis technique on each tick will impact platform performance, whether the performance impact is noticeable or not depends upon hardware performance, number of windows, amount of data downloaded, etc. So, only if the alert is essential should you enable alerts and turn on the Update value intra-bar setting. Configuration: Style Tab Sets the weight of Gap Line (the style must be set in the Inputs tab). To change the weight of the Gap Line, ensure the Type is Line (regardless of the LineStyle setting in the Inputs Tab) then select the weight of your preference. If you change the interval an unsupported interval, the indicator will not display anything and it will not display an error message.
