3 1 Description IBS Calculator automates to finish in-building system wireless network design. That means lower costs, faster, and a higher quality design../ Support GSM/CDMA/DCS/WCDMA or user defined network;./ Support base station and repeater or user defined component and equipments;./ Automatic DL Power calculations;./ Automatic calculates system BOQ;./ Automatic check loop link and unlink cable status;./ Automatic aligns relative position and follow group component moving./ Add, move and delete components and topology node, cable line etc./ User defined components properties: product model, format, Loss etc;./ Easy to set components parameter by IBS inspector;./ Visual display system topology, link status and components outline;./ Coverage effect predict for indoor coverage and outdoor application;./ Simple tools for isolation and uplink interference. 3

4 2 System Requirement 2.1 Hardware Requirements IBS Calculator is designed to run on a standard PC. The program can be run directly from diskette or a CD. It is a Windows based application that runs on Windows. The system requirements: PIII or above Intel Pentium processor 128MB RAM or above; 1GB or above free hard disk space Monitor with a minimum resolution of 800 by 600 pixels Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later. Latest service pack can be downloaded from Software Requirements Microsoft Office Excel required for report of BOM and output power level. 4

5 3 Software Introduce 3.1 Interface 3.2 Main Menu File New Open Creates a new file (The file extension is *.ibs) Opens an existing file for editing (The file extension is *.ibs) Save Saves the current file to disk (The file extension is *.ibs) Save As Saves a file using a new name (also lets you save a new file using a specified name) or picture file (The file extension is *.bmp or *.jpg) Save Picture save a new file using a specified picture file (The file extension is *.bmp or *.jpg) Close Close the current file 5

7 Choose Menu View or Align by left-clicking IBS components Palette to set components view. Use this command to line up selected components in relation to each other or to the form. The options for horizontal or vertical alignment are: Left - Lines up the left edges of the selected components Right - Lines up the right edges of the selected components Top - Lines up the top edges of the selected components Bottom - Lines up the bottom edges of the selected components Horizontal Center - Lines up the centers of the selected components (horizontal only) Vertical Center - Lines up the centers of the selected components (vertical only) 3.4 Main Menu IBS Calculate Automatic reset link between cable and components (if near each other), check loop link; Automatic calculates downlink power; 7

10 3.5 Main Menu Setup Page - Set paper size, paper orientation, and header and page footer; Component - predefine components properties, such as factory model, mark format, loss, connector type, cable color, cable loss/100meter per network etc. 10

11 3.6 Main Menu Tools dbm & Watts dbm (sometimes dbmw) is an abbreviation for the power ratio in decibels (db) of the measured power referenced to one milliwatt (mw). It is used in radio, microwave and fiber optic networks as a convenient measure of absolute power because of its capability to express both very large and very small values in a short form. Compare dbw, which is referenced to one watt (1000 mw). Since it is referenced to the watt, it is an absolute unit, used when measuring absolute power. By comparison, the decibel (db) is a dimensionless unit, used for quantifying the ratio between two values, such as signal-to-noise ratio Frequency Allocation& Network 11

14 About - Displays information on the product such as the name, version, logos, and may include other legal information including copyright information. To find a topic in Help: Click the Contents tab to browse through topics by category. Each topic represented by a book icon is a main section heading. To open one, select it and click Open or double click it. Each topic represented by a page icon with a question mark is individual chapters. To open one, select it and click Display or double click it. Click the Index tab to see a list of index entries: either type the word you're looking for or scroll through the list. Click the Find tab to search for words or phrases that may be contained in a Help topic. 4 Getting Started Manual 4.1 Popup Menu Pop up menus are a common ease of use feature. They enable users to minimize mouse movement by clicking the right mouse button in the application workspace to access a list of frequently used commands. Cut Deletes components and stores it in the clipboard. Copy Copies components and stores it in the clipboard. Paste Inserts components from the clipboard Delete Deletes component without store 14

18 5 Quick Start 5.1 Run IBS Application 5.2 Define Components When you first use, you need to initialize parameters for in building system components, such as cable, splitter, coupler etc. The steps are detailed here for easy reference. Example: Define parameters for Repeater 18

19 Please click Button UPDATE to save your configuration; otherwise the defulat configuration will be used in system. Example: Define parameters for Cable Example: Define parameters for Coupler 19

20 5.3 Layout component Move mouse to position of component in IBS component Palette, Click left mouse and hold down to move components to work area; if necessary, select component to align relative position or move component position by keeping left mouse down when moving. This above example show put one log period antenna on work area. 5.4 Cabling If unconnected cable in work area; - Move cable head close to target component port (only output port) by keeping left mouse down on head position, if this port not be connected, the cable will automatic attach to this port, then cannot be moved; - Move cable end close to target component port (only input port) by keeping left mouse down on end position, if this port not be connected, the cable will automatic attach to this port, then cannot be moved; This above example shows put one cable on the work area, and then click left mouse down on left top blue circle, move it to attenuator output (right port), then cable will connect to attenuator automatically. 20

21 Connect between two components - Move mouse to repeater and click repeater ; - Hold down left move, move repeater input port close to antenna output port; - If this antenna port not be connected, the cable will automatic produce and attach to repeater input port and antenna output port 5.5 Set component properties 21

22 This above example shows set properties such as Floor number, serial number, more than one component one time by rectangle select these components or Shift+ Left Mouse. Notice: System frequency bands are set via donor antenna/ BTS properties. Repeater gain and output power are set via repeater properties; 5.6 Check system (Optional) Example: Not link between repeater and Omni antenna Example: loop link between node (in) and node(out) 22

23 5.7 Report (Optional) 5.8 Save File Choose File Save As to save the active file with a different name or in a different location. Use the Save As dialog box to change a file name or to save the unit in a new location. If the file name already exists, the product asks if you want to replace the existing file. 23
