This package includes the QLflash utility, update scripts, support applications, the multi-boot binary file, and documentation. The Flash image contained in this package supports the QLogic 3200 Series Intelligent Ethernet Adapters and the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapters on Intel x86/x64 and AMD64 platforms. 2 The following table lists the contents of the multi-boot package. File Name update.bat QLflash.exe DOS4GW.exe p3pyyyyy.bin readme.txt release.txt read1st.txt Description A DOS batch file that calls the executable files to update the adapter Flash image and firmware. A DOS utility to update the Flash image and firmware. A DOS application that supplements QLflash. The combined binary file, which includes the binaries for the BIOS, PXE, iscsi, and firmware. The Readme file for the Flash image. This Readme contains details about the Flash image, which include the BIOS, PXE, iscsi, and firmware code contained in the package. The Release Notes for the Flash image. The Release Notes contain revision notes for the Flash image, which include the BIOS, PXE, iscsi, and firmware code contained in the package. An overview document included in the Flash image. 1.1 Update the Flash Image To update the Flash image: 1. Insert the adapter in the system. 2. Boot to DOS. 3. Run the update script at the command prompt by typing: C:\>update.bat This script program updates the Flash image on the adapter. 4. Reboot the system for the changes to take effect. NOTE: Make sure you have a compatible adapter before using this package to update the adapter. It may take QLflash.exe 2 3 minutes to update one adapter. Do not interrupt the operation. The QConvergeConsole GUI and CLI Management Tools can also update the Flash image. You only need to run the update once. This process updates the FCoE BIOS/iSCSI BIOS and PXE to the latest versions specified in the release.txt file. If a PCI Resource Failure occurs, disable the on board NIC through the system BIOS before running update.exe. 2 FCoE BIOS (8200 Series only) This section provides information about the BIOS for the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapters contained in the Flash image. 3 2.1 Supported Features The FCoE BIOS package supports the following features: Up to 2031 target IDs. Up to 256 LUNs. Boot capability in FCoE network environments. The multi-boot BIOS contained in this package supports the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapters on Intel x86/x64 and AMD64 platforms. Support for the following operating systems (OSs): Windows Server 2008 x86/x64 and 2008 R2 (all QLogic supported versions) SLES 10 SP3, SLES 11, SLES 11 SP1 x86/x64 RH 5.x and 6.x x86/x64 platforms ESX/ESXi 4.0.x and Adapter Configuration This section provides detailed configuration information for advanced users who want to customize the configuration of the adapter and the connected devices. You can configure the adapter using Fast!UTIL. To access Fast!UTIL, press CTRL+Q during the adapter BIOS initialization (it may take a few seconds for the Fast!UTIL menu to appear). If you have more than one adapter, Fast!UTIL asks you to select the adapter you want to configure. After changing the settings, Fast!UTIL reboots your system to load the new parameters. CAUTION! If the configuration settings are incorrect, your adapter may not function properly. 4 Adapter Settings Host Adapter BIOS (Enabled/Disabled: Default - Disabled) Disabling this setting disables the ROM BIOS on the adapter, which frees space in upper memory. If you are booting from a Fibre Channel disk drive attached to the adapter, you must enable this setting. For details, see the Selectable Boot Settings section. Frame Size (512/1024/2048: Default ) This setting specifies the maximum frame length supported by the adapter. Loop Reset Delay (0 60 seconds: Default - 5 seconds) After resetting the loop, the firmware refrains from initiating any loop activity for the number of seconds specified in this setting. Spin Up Delay (Enabled/Disabled: Default - Disabled) When this setting is Enabled, the BIOS waits up to 2 minutes to find the first drive. Fibre Channel Tape Support (Enabled/Disabled: Default - Enabled) This setting enables FCP-2 recovery. Selectable Boot Settings The Configuration Settings menus provide access to the Selectable Boot Settings option. If you enable the adapter BIOS in the adapter settings, this option allows you to select the boot device as follows: Selectable Boot Boot Port Name/LUN Disabled X Enabled None specified Enabled Specified Device Boot The BIOS configures the first disk drive it finds as the boot device. The BIOS configures the first disk drive it finds that is also LUN 0 as the boot device. The BIOS scans through the specified WWPN/LUN list until it finds a boot drive. This option allows you to specify up to four WWPNs/LUNs as boot devices. To enable the Selectable Boot option and insert devices into the boot device locations, follow these steps: 1. From the Configuration Settings menu, select Adapter Settings. 2. Enable the adapter BIOS, and then press ESC to return to the Configuration Settings menu. 3. From the Configuration Settings menu, select Selectable Boot Settings. 4. Press ENTER to enable or disable (toggle) the Selectable Boot option. Use the down arrow key to move to the Primary location of the Selectable Boot List menu. 5. Press ENTER to see a list of accessible devices (in the Select Fibre Channel Device menu). 6. Select a drive using the arrow keys to scroll down to the device you want to put into your Selectable Boot menu list, and then press ENTER to select the requested device and load it into the Selectable Boot menu list. 5 7. Repeat this step to specify a secondary boot device on the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapter or up to four alternate boot devices. NOTE: System BIOS Compatibility To boot from a QLogic adapter in a computer system with a multi-boot system BIOS (CMOS), the adapter must be included in the list of bootable devices in the system's Boot menu. Restore Default Settings The Restore Defaults option from the Configuration Settings menu restores the BIOS to its default settings. Raw NVRAM Data This option displays the adapter s NVRAM contents in hexadecimal format and cannot be modified. Advanced Adapter Settings LUNs per Target (0/8/16/32/64/128/256: Default - 128) This setting specifies the number of LUNs supported (per target) if the target does not support the Report LUNs command. Multiple LUN support typically applies to a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) boxes that use LUNs to map drives. Enable Target Reset (Yes/No: Default - Yes) This setting enables the drivers to issue a Target Reset command to all devices on the loop when a SCSI Bus Reset command is issued. Login Retry Count (0 255: Default - 8) This setting specifies the number of times the software tries to log into a device. Port Down Retry Count (0 255 seconds: Default - 30 seconds) This setting specifies the number of seconds the software waits to retry a command to a port returning port down status. Link Down Timeout (0 255 seconds: Default - 30 seconds) This setting specifies the number of seconds the software waits for a link down to come up. Enable Interrupt (Yes/No: Default - No) Enable or disable the interrupt: Yes The BIOS uses the IRQ assigned to the QLogic adapter. No The BIOS polls for QLogic adapter mailbox command completion status. EV Controller Order (Enabled/Disabled: Default - Disabled) This setting enables the EV controller order. 6 2.2.2 Scan Fibre Devices This option scans the Fibre Channel SAN and lists all the connected devices by loop ID. It lists information about each device (for example, vendor name, product name, and revision). This information helps when configuring your adapter and attached devices Fibre Disk Utility This option scans the Fibre Channel loop and lists all the connected devices by address. You can select a Fibre Channel hard disk and do one of the following tests: Perform a low-level format (some targets do not support this feature). Verify the disk media. Verify the disk data (most targets do not support this feature). Select a different disk device. CAUTION! Performing a low-level format destroys all data on the disk and is not supported on RAID devices Loopback Data Test This option allows you to perform an external Loopback test. NOTE: When running the external Loopback data test, make sure that the Loopback connector is attached to the adapter port(s) before starting the test. Do not run this test with the adapter connected to the fabric switch port Select Host Adapter If you have a multi-port or multiple adapters in your system, use this option to select and then configure or view the settings of a specific adapter port or adapter Exit Fast!UTIL This option allows you to exit the utility and reboot the system or to return to Fast!UTIL. After making changes to the QLogic adapter in Fast!UTIL, make sure you save the changes before you reboot the system QLflash Command Line Options The QLflash.exe application is a command line utility used by the UPDATE.BAT file to update the adapter Flash image. QLflash can read, write, or verify the Flash image or the NVRAM information on the adapter. The following paragraphs describe the command line options available with this utility. Use of QLflash modifies the way your adapter operates and must be used with extreme caution. Certain file save options (that is, the NVRAM save, and so on) may require additional data files not provided. Flash Image for 3200 and 8200 Series Adapter Readme Page 6 of 17

7 Available Options QLflash = The name alone; displays the indexes and I/o addresses. QLflash /? = provides command line help details. Board Config options: /CFU=[file.ext] Update Board Config data from file (use existing MAC addresses) /CFS=[file.ext] Save Board Config data into file; requires a data file /CFC=[file.ext] Compare Board Config data with a binary file FCoE NVRAM options: /NVU=[file.ext] Load FCoE NVRAM data from file /NVS=[file.ext] Save FCoE NVRAM data into file; requires a data file /NVC=[file.ext] Compare FCoE NVRAM data with a file User Info options: /UIL=[file.ext] Load User Info data from file /UIS=[file.ext] Save User Info data into file; requires a data file /UIC=[file.ext] Compare User Info data with a file Flash Layout Print option: /FLP Print Flash Layout Table Multiflash Image options: /SIL=[file.ext] Load multi-code image from a binary file NOTE: This option reprograms the Board Config region. All configurations (such as selectable boot settings) will be lost. Print options: /VPP Print VPD Content information /PRN Print MAC addresses and WWPN information /PRV Print Firmware Version from User Info Silent option: /SLT Sets the application to silent mode Use the application Return Codes for success or failure. 0 Success 1 ERROR: The Flash operation was not performed. 2 ERROR: The adapter/port index is invalid. 5 ERROR: 0 The adapter/port was not found in the system. 8 ERROR: The Flash operation was unsuccessful. NOTE: When using the save options, a number will be prepended to the saved file name. This number helps to denote the relative port data being saved. 8 Usage The following example shows the command line format required for proper operation. - Utility - Required Inputs -- Options -- qlflash.exe [ <port-index> [options...] ] Required command line switches customize the behavior of the utility, and optional input switches allow you to perform some operation on the Flash. Required Inputs <port-index> specifies the port to be operated on. Valid values are: ALL Performs the operation on all ports detected in a system. 1..N Specifies the port index with which to operate. NOTE: Use ALL for all 8200 Series Converged Network Adapter operations. For example, for adapters with previously valid Flash and NVRAM contents, use the following command line options: To update the Flash on a QLogic adapter, type: c:\>qlflash all /sil=p3pyyyyy.bin NOTE: The binary name varies depending on the level of the kit. To update the NVRAM on a QLogic adapter, type: c:/>qlflash all /nvu=nvr.dat NOTE: The NVRAM name varies depending on the adapter model Setting Up a Target to Boot from SAN To set up a target to boot from the SAN: 1. Connect a Fiber cable to the switch with the target attached. 2. Configure both host and target in the same zone. 3. Power on the server. 4. At QLogic BIOS banner, type Ctrl+Q to enter Fast!Util. 5. Select Scan Fiber Devices and confirm that the BIOS detects the target. 6. Press ESC, and then select Configuration Settings. 7. Select Selectable Boot Settings. 8. Select Primary Port Name, LUN. Press ENTER to choose the correct target. 9. Change Selectable Boot to Enable. 10. Press ESC to save the changes. 11. Select Configuration Settings, and then select Adapter Settings. 12. Change Host Adapter BIOS to Enable (default=disable). 13. Press ESC to save the changes, and then press ESC to reboot the system. 14. Confirm that the target BIOS is enabled and detects the correct target. 15. Boot to the OS installation media and proceed with the OS installation. 9 2.3 Additional Notes If you used a Fiber Channel RAID target in a Cluster Environment, you must enable the Enable Target Reset = Enabled (Advanced Adapter Settings). QLogic recommends disabling the internal disk before installing the OS or booting to the FCoE disk. Some server BIOSs require setting the target as the first boot order. 3 iscsi BIOS (8200 Series only) This section provides information about the iscsi BIOS for the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapters contained in the Flash image. For details, see the following topics: 3.1 Supported Features 3.2 Adapter Configuration (Fast!UTIL) 3.3 Setting Up a Target to Boot from the SAN 3.4 Additional Notes 3.1 Supported Features The iscsi BIOS supports the following features: Up to 512 target IDs. Up to 256 LUNs. Boot capability in Network Environments. The iscsi BIOS contained in this package supports the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapters on Intel x86/x64 and AMD64 platforms. 10 3.2.1 Configuration Settings The following topics show and describe the configuration settings for the adapter. Hos t Adapter Settings iscsi Boot Settings Advanced Adapter Settings Restore Adapter Defaults Clear Persistent Targets Host Adapter Settings Initiator IP Settings: Enable IPv4: (Yes/No: Default - Yes) IPv4 Address using DHCP: (Yes/No: Default - No) When set to Yes, the adapter utilizes DHCP to obtain its IP address, subnet mask, and gateway IP address. IPv4 Address When DHCP is set to No, this field must contain a valid IPv4 address. Subnet Mask When DHCP is set to No, this field must contain a valid Subnet Mask. Gateway IPv4 Address When DHCP is set to No, this field must contain a valid Gateway IPv4 address. Enable IPv6: (Yes/No: Default - No) IPv6 Link Local Address Mode: (Manual/Auto: Default - Manual) NOTE: When performing an iscsi boot with IPv6 targets in manual mode, both the IPv6 Routable Address(es) and Default IPv6 Router IP Address must be entered in the BIOS menu. IPv6 Link Local Address When IPv6 Link Local Address Mode is set to Manual, this field must contain a valid IPv6 address. IPv6 Routable Addresses: (Manual/Router via Neighbor Discovery: Default - Manual) This setting specifies the method of IPv6 routable addressing for the adapter. Manual The IPv6 Routable Address is manually entered. Router via Neighbor Discovery The adapter acquires the address from the router. IPv6 Routable Address 1 When IPv6 Routable Address is set to Manual, this field must contain a valid IPv6 routable address. IPv6 Routable Address 2 When IPv6 Routable Address is set to Manual, this field must contain a valid IPv6 routable address. Default IPv6 Router Address When Routable Addresses is set to Router via Neighbor Discovery, this field must contain the IPv6 address of the router. LUNs per Target: (0 255: Default - 16) This setting specifies the number of LUNs per iscsi target device. Spin Up Delay: (Enabled/Disabled: Default - Disabled) When this setting is Enabled, the BIOS waits up to two minutes to find the first drive. Initiator iscsi name: (Default - IQN name of the adapter). Example: iqn com.qlogic:isp e1e049caa.4 Flash Image for 3200 and 8200 Series Adapter Readme Page 10 of 17

11 Initiator CHAP Name: (Default - blank). Enter the CHAP name when security settings are enabled. Initiator CHAP Secret: (Default - blank). Enter the CHAP secret when security settings are enabled. iscsi Boot Settings The iscsi Boot Settings area is accessed from the Configuration Settings menu. Use the following options to specify the drive you want to boot from. Press C to clear the boot device information from the Primary/Alternate boot locations. Boot Device LUN Target IP: Primary: (Default - LUN 0, other fields blank). Use this field to specify the primary boot information: LUN number, target IP, and iscsi name Alternate: (Default - LUN 0, other fields blank). Use this field to specify the alternate boot information: LUN number, target IP, and iscsi name Adapter Boot Mode: (Disable/Manual/DHCP using VendorID/DHCP using Rootpath: Default - Disable). This selection enables the iscsi boot mode for manual or DHCP mode options. Disable When Disable is selected, the ROM BIOS on the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapter is disabled, freeing space in upper memory. Manual When Manual is selected, the parameters for the iscsi boot device must be manually configured in the Primary/Alternate Boot Device Settings area. DHCP using Vendor ID When DHCP using Vendor ID is selected, the initiator acquires its IP address from a DHCP server. The initiator will also acquire all boot parameters for an iscsi target, if the boot parameters have been specified on the DHCP server. This setting requires advanced users to manually input vendor specific information on the DHCP server and in the Vendor ID field of the DHCP Boot Settings area. The DHCP Boot Settings Vendor ID field must contain a valid entry. DHCP using Rootpath When DHCP using Rootpath is selected, the initiator acquires its IP address from a DHCP server using Rootpath. Primary/Alternate Boot Device Settings: Security Settings: CHAP: (Disable/Enable: Default - Disabled) CHAP Name: (Default - blank) CHAP Secret: (Default - blank) Bidirectional CHAP: (Disabled/Enabled: Default - Disabled) NOTE: Some of the iscsi storages that allow the users to configure only CHAP secrets for initiator and target should use the storage IQN as the CHAP user name for both uni- and bi-directional CHAP. Use IPv4 or IPv6: (IPv4/IPv6: Default - IPv4) When the Adapter Boot Mode is set to Manual, this setting specifies the IP format used for the target device. IPv4 When IPv4 is selected, the Target IP field must contain an IPv4 address. IPv6 When IPv6 is selected, the Target IP field must contain an IPv6 address. Target IP: (Default ) When the Adapter Boot Mode is set to Manual, this field must contain the IP address of the intended iscsi boot target. 12 This field must contain the number of the port used by the target. (By default, iscsi uses port Do not modify this field unless it is necessary.) Boot LUN: (0 255: Default - 0) This field must contain the LUN number of the boot device. (Depending on your configuration, it may not be necessary to change this field option.) iscsi Name: (Default - blank) This field must contain the iscsi name of an intended boot target. (Depending on your configuration, it may not be necessary to change this option.) NOTES: These options apply only to disk devices; they do not apply to tape drives and other non-disk devices. For new systems with Phoenix and AMI Multiboot BIOS, the selectable boot settings for the adapter will not work unless the system BIOS_ Hard Drive Boot option is in the correct order. Pressing the C key does not change the DDB contents, it only resets the Boot Valid flag so that the BIOS will not boot from that DDB. Use the Clear Persistent Targets option to clear the DDBs. DHCP Boot Settings: Vendor ID: (Default - blank) Alternate Client ID: (Default - blank) Advanced Adapter Settings From the Configuration Settings menu in Fast!UTIL, select Advanced Adapter Settings. The following paragraphs describe the default settings for the adapter. Delayed ACK: (Disabled/Enabled: Enabled) MTU: (1500/9000: Default ) Primary Boot Data Digest: (Disabled/Enabled: Disabled) Primary Boot Header Digest: (Disabled/Enabled: Disabled) Alternate Boot Data Digest: (Disabled/Enabled: Disabled) Alternate Boot Header Digest: (Disabled/Enabled: Disabled) Restore Adapter Defaults The Restore Defaults option from the Configuration Settings menu restores the BIOS default settings. Clear Persistent Targets This option clears the persistent target information Scan iscsi Devices This option scans the iscsi target devices connected to the adapter. 13 3.2.3 iscsi Disk Utility This option scans and lists all the iscsi devices connected. You can select an iscsi hard disk and do one of the following tests: Perform a low-level format (some targets do not support this feature). Verify the disk media. Verify the disk data (some targets do not support this feature). Select a different disk device. CAUTION! Performing a low-level format destroys all data on the disk, and is not supported on most RAID devices Ping Utility This option allows you to ping the IP of an available device Reinit Adapter This function re-initializes the iscsi firmware. QLogic recommends that this function be performed when any change is made to the iscsi BIOS Select Host Adapter If you have a multi-port or multiple adapters in your system, use this option to select, then configure or view the settings of a specific adapter port or adapter Exit Fast!UTIL This option allows you to exit the utility and reboot the system or to return to Fast!UTIL. After making changes to the QLogic adapter in Fast!UTIL, make sure you save the changes before you reboot the system. 3.3 Setting Up a Target to Boot from the SAN To set up a target to boot from the SAN: 1. Connect a Fiber cable to the switch with an iscsi target attached. 2. Power on the server. 3. At QLogic BIOS banner, type Ctrl+Q to enter Fast!Util. 4. Select Configuration Settings/Host Adapter Settings. 5. Enter Initiator IP Settings. 6. Press ESC to save the changes. 7. Select Configurations/iSCSI Boot Settings. 8. Select Primary Boot Device Settings. 9. Enter the target IP. NOTE: The iscsi name is not required for most targets. 10. Press ESC to save the changes. 11. Select iscsi Boot Settings/Boot Device LUN Target IP. 12. Select Primary. IPs should be entered from Step Press Enter to select the designated LUN. 14 14. Change the Adapter Boot Mode from Disable to Manual. 15. Press ESC to save the changes. 16. Press ESC to reboot the system. 17. Confirm that the target BIOS is enabled and detects the correct iscsi Target/LUN. 18. Boot to a DVD or PXE server and proceed with the OS installation. NOTE: Use the iscsi Disk Utility/Verify Disk Media to confirm that the target is ready and functional. 3.4 Additional Notes QLogic recommends disabling the internal disk before installing the OS or booting to an iscsi target. Some server BIOSs require setting the target as the first boot order. The Microsoft iscsi Software Initiator writes a different IQN to the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapter, causing target loss. When this problem occurs, add this new IQN to the target s access list. 4 PXE Option ROM (3200 and 8200 Series) This section provides information about the pre-boot execution environment (PXE) contained in the Flash image. For details, see the following topics: 4.1 System Configuration 4.2 Additional Notes The PXE for the QLogic 3200 Series Intelligent Ethernet Adapters and the 8200 Series Converged Network Adapters supports the following: PXE for the Intelligent Ethernet Adapter and the Converged Network Adapter under the BIOS-based environment. The following OSs are supported: Windows Server 2008 x86/x64 and 2008 R2 (all QLogic supported versions) SLES 10 SP3, SLES 11, SLES 11 SP1 x86/x64 RH 5.x and 6.x x86/x64 platforms ESX/ESXi 4.0.x and System Configuration This section provides user notes regarding the BIOS PXE feature contained in the Flash image. The QLogic PXE is enabled in Server BIOS settings by default. Make sure that the QLogic adapter is enabled under PCI Device Enable/Disable in the Server BIOS Settings if it is disabled by the user. Put the QLogic PXE on top of the boot order list in Standard Boot Order (IPL) within the Server BIOS Settings. Upon system boot up, you may need to press the F12 function key to invoke the PXE Network Service boot operation. The QLogic PXE Boot prompt automatically detects the PXE Boot Server and starts the OS installation. If the server has a PCI Resource Failure, disable the on board NIC through the system BIOS to enable the QLogic PXE code.
