Chapter 2 Setup Procedure for PRIMERGY The setup procedure varies depending on the product ID of the Fibre Channel card being used. For the S26361-F2624-E1, S26361-F2843-E1/S26361-F2843-E201, S26361-F3141-E10/ S26361-F3141-E210, S26361-F3141-E1, S26361-F3306-E1/S26361-F3306-E201, S F3961-E1/S26361-F3961-E201, S26361-F3961-E2/S26361-F3961-E202, S26361-F3306- E601, and MC-FC82E Fibre Channel cards, proceed to "2.1 Setup Procedure for non- S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel Cards" (page 9). For the S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel card, proceed to "2.2 Setup Procedure for the S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel Card" (page 19). 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards Install the Fibre Channel cards in the server, and acquire their physical addresses and World Wide Names (WWNs). The physical address and WWN of a Fibre Channel card are required information in the following cases: when an error has occurred in the system, when using the ETERNUS Disk storage systems (security function, host affinity function, etc.) to restrict server access, or when connecting the ETERNUS Disk storage systems and the server using Fibre Channel switch. Acquire the physical address and WWN when installing the Fibre Channel card, because they cannot be determined from BIOS and OS. Physical address and WWN must be assigned to "WWN instance management table for the server". (1) Install the Fibre Channel card (2) Turn on the server (3) Acquire the physical address and WWN for the Fibre Channel card (4) Add a record for the server in the WWN instance management table for the server When installing two or more Fibre Channel cards to the server, first turn off the server, then repeat Steps (1) through (4) above for each Fibre Channel card to be installed. 9
Chapter 2 Setup Procedure for PRIMERGY > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards Installing the Fibre Channel Card For the installation method, position (PCI bus slots), and notes regarding the Fibre Channel card, refer to the Fibre Channel card documentation or the User Guide of the server. Procedure 1 Turn on the server, and press the [Alt] + [E] keys while the following message is displayed.!!! Emulex LPexxxx BIOS Copyright xxxx!!! xxxxxxxx Press <Alt E> to go to Emulex BIOS Utility. Press <s> to skip Emulex BIOS. "LightPulse BIOS Utility" starts. 2 Enter the number of the Fibre Channel card to be checked in [Enter a Selection:_] and press the [Enter] key. 3 Check the [I/O Base] and [Port Name] values. The value of [I/O Base] is the physical address and the value of [Port Name] is the Fibre Channel card WWN. Adapter 1: PCI Bus#:0x PCI Device#:0x Physical address LPexxxx: I/O Base: 5000 Firmware Version: xxxxxxxx Port Name: C938D229 Node Name: C938D229 Topology: Auto Topology: Loop first(default) Fibre Channel card WWN 1.Configure Boot Device 2.Configure This Adapter s Parameters Enter a Selection:_ Enter <x> to Exit <d> to Default Values <Page Up> to Previous Menu 4 Record the physical address and WWN in the WWN instance management table for the server (found in "Appendix A WWN Instance Management Table for the Server (Blank)" (page 30)). The following shows an example of this. Host name IP Address Physical slot name Fibre Channel card WWN Instance name Physical address slot C9 38 D Cable tag 10
Chapter 2 Setup Procedure for PRIMERGY > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards Details of contents The details of contents for the WWN instance management table for the server are as follows: Host name: IP address: Physical slot name: Fibre Channel card WWN: Instance name: Physical address: Cable tag: Record the host name. Record the IP address of the server. Record the slot position of installed Fibre Channel card. For the installation location, refer to the User Guide for each server. Record the value of [Port Name] or [Adapter Port Name]. Not necessary to record. Record the value of [I/O Base] or [I/O Address]. Record a tag name which indicates the connection path (relationship between the connected device and the port). 5 Press the [x] key to exit "LightPulse BIOS Utility". When installing two or more Fibre Channel cards to the server, first turn off the server, then repeat Step 1 through Step 4 for each Fibre Channel card to be installed. If two or more Fibre Channel cards have already been installed in the server at the time of purchase, the one-to-one relationship between the WWNs and Fibre Channel cards may not be easy to determine. The correct WWPNs need to be registered and setup on the ETERNUS Disk storage system for a server to recognize the ETERNUS Disk storage system logical disks. If logical volumes are not recognized by a server, the WWPN maybe registered to an incorrect CM/CA Port. The WWN field on the WWN Registration maybe useful in identifying which Fibre Channel card is connected to which CM/CA Port. For most (but not all) configurations, the WWN field lists the WWNs of accessible HBAs. Refer to "ETERNUS Disk storage systems Server Connection Guide (Fibre Channel) ETERNUS Disk Storage System Settings" for details about ETERNUS settings. End of procedure Installing the Drivers Refer to the documentation provided with each Fibre Channel card for details on how to obtain and install a Fibre Channel card driver for it. 11
Chapter 2 Setup Procedure for PRIMERGY > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards Checking the Driver Version Use the Device Manager to check the version of the Fibre Channel card driver. Procedure 1 In the Device Manager go to [SCSI and RAID controllers], and open the [Properties] of the Fibre Channel card. 2 Select the [Driver] tab, and open the [Driver Details]. 3 Select the driver file, and check its [File version]. For SCSIport Miniport driver: select "lpxnds.sys" for the driver file. For Storport Miniport driver: select "elxstor.sys" for the driver file. If a different driver version is displayed from that shown in "Server Support Matrix", reinstall the driver. End of procedure Setting up the Driver Parameters The procedure varies depending on the product ID of the Fibre Channel card being used. For the S26361-F2624-E1, S26361-F2843-E1/S26361-F2843-E201, S26361-F3141-E10/ S26361-F3141-E210, and S26361-F3141-E1 Fibre Channel cards, proceed to " For the S26361-F2624-E1, S26361-F2843-E1/S26361-F2843-E201, S26361-F3141-E10/ S26361-F3141-E210, and S26361-F3141-E1" (page 13). For the S26361-F3306-E1/S26361-F3306-E201, S26361-F3961-E1/S26361-F3961-E201, S26361-F3961-E2/S26361-F3961-E202, S26361-F3306-E601, and MC-FC82E Fibre Channel cards, proceed to " For the S26361-F3306-E1/S26361-F3306-E201, S F3961-E1/S26361-F3961-E201, S26361-F3961-E2/S26361-F3961-E202, S26361-F3306- E601, and MC-FC82E" (page 15). Values that have been modified but not yet applied are displayed in red in the [Value] column. Click the [Apply] button. 6 If there are multiple cards, repeat Step 2 through Step 4 to change the settings for all cards. 7 After all the cards have been set, select [Exit] from the [File] menu to quit the "HBAnyware Utility". End of procedure Setting Fixed Target IDs (for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003) Each device connected to a Fibre Channel card is allocated a Target ID. By default, these Target IDs are automatically allocated by the driver. This means that, depending on the state of device recognition, the device Target IDs can and may be reallocated as devices are added and removed. If the Target IDs have changed when the server reboots, devices may end up off-line, and unavailable depending on the OS or application environment being used. Alternatively, automatic Target ID allocation can be disabled and the Fibre Channel card settings manually adjusted to assign an arbitrary Target ID to each device connected to the card. It is recommended that a fixed Target ID be allocated to each device in this way. Contact your supplier for more details Installing the ETERNUS Disk Storage System Driver Install the driver for ETERNUS Disk storage systems to the server if necessary. Refer to "Driver Notes" section in "ETERNUS Disk storage systems Server Connection Guide (Fibre Channel) for Windows " for notes on each driver. This section applies when using path redundancy control (path fail-over) for a multipath connected ETERNUS Disk storage system or when connecting the ETERNUS Disk storage system to the server via single-path. For details on how to install, uninstall, set up and operate the ETERNUS Disk storage systems' driver, refer to the Readme file or the User Guide provided with the software. 18
Chapter 2 Setup Procedure for PRIMERGY > 2.2 Setup Procedure for the S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel Card 2.2 Setup Procedure for the S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel Card Install the Fibre Channel cards in the server, and acquire their physical addresses and World Wide Names (WWNs). 24 Chapter 3 Setup Procedure for PRIMEQUEST 1000 series 3.1 Setup Procedure for MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Fibre Channel Cards Install the Fibre Channel cards in the server, and acquire their physical addresses and World Wide Names (WWNs). (1) Install the Fibre Channel card (2) Turn on the server If a SAN Boot environment is to be set up, the SAN Boot settings must be made beforehand for the PRIMEQUEST 1000 series. Refer to "Appendix D Configuration in the SAN Boot Environment" in "PRIMEQUEST 1000 series INSTALLATION MANUAL" for details. (3) Acquire the physical address and WWN for the Fibre Channel card (4) Add a record for the server in the WWN instance management table for the server When installing two or more Fibre Channel cards to the server, first turn off the server, then repeat Steps (1) through (4) above for each Fibre Channel card to be installed. 24
Chapter 3 Setup Procedure for PRIMEQUEST 1000 series > 3.1 Setup Procedure for MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Fibre Channel Cards Installing the Fibre Channel Card For the installation method, position (PCI bus slots), and notes regarding the Fibre Channel card, refer to the Fibre Channel card documentation or the User Guide of the server. 26 Chapter 3 Setup Procedure for PRIMEQUEST 1000 series > 3.1 Setup Procedure for MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Fibre Channel Cards Details of contents The details of contents for the WWN instance management table for the server are as follows: Host name: IP address: Physical slot name: Fibre Channel card WWN: Instance name: Physical address: Cable tag: Record the host name. 26
Chapter 3 Setup Procedure for PRIMEQUEST 1000 series > 3.1 Setup Procedure for MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Fibre Channel Cards Checking the Driver Version Use the Device Manager to check the version of the Fibre Channel card driver. Procedure 1 In the Device Manager go to [SCSI and RAID controllers], and open the [Properties] of the Fibre Channel card. 2 Select the [Driver] tab, and open the [Driver Details]. 3 Select the driver file (elxstor.sys), and check its [File version]. If a different driver version is displayed from that shown in "Server Support Matrix", reinstall the driver. End of procedure Setting up the Driver Parameters Use the application (OneCommand Manager, or other) provided by Emulex Corp. to set the driver parameters. This chapter describes the procedures using OneCommand Manager For the MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Set the driver parameters after installing OneCommand Manager. When the server OS is Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003, it is recommended that fixed Target IDs be assigned to the Fibre Channel card connected devices, and that automatic Target ID allocation be disabled. For details of the Target ID settings, refer to the "Fibre Channel Controller User's Guide". By default, Target IDs are automatically allocated. However, when a device is added, automatic Target ID allocation can result in a different distribution of Target IDs, which can cause the devices to not be recognized. Procedure 1 Install OneCommand Manager. For installation, refer to the Fibre Channel card documentation. 2 Start the OneCommand Manager. 27
Chapter 3 Setup Procedure for PRIMEQUEST 1000 series > 3.1 Setup Procedure for MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Fibre Channel Cards 3 Select the target Fibre Channel card and click the [Driver Parameters] tab. When the same parameter values are to be set for all the Fibre Channel cards (common setting), select the target server instead of the target Fibre Channel card and click the [Driver Parameters] tab. 4 Check the parameter values in the [Adapter Parameter] list. Compare with the parameter values in the following tables, and correct the current value if necessary. Select the parameter whose value is to be corrected from the [Adapter Parameter] list and modify the value in the [Modify Adapter Parameter] area. - For Windows Server 2008/Windows Server 2003 Fibre Channel card Topology QueueDepth Value Queue Target LinkSpeed MC-0JFC11, MC-0JFC21 0 (FC-AL Connection) 1 (Fabric Connection) ETERNUS Calculated value (*1) ETERNUS4000, ETERNUS "254" 1 See the Link Speed settings table (*2), below *1: Use the following formula to calculate the proper setting value: Value = 40 / (No. of Server-side Fibre Channel ports connected to each ETERNUS-side CA port) (Round the result down) Use the value of "8" if the actual result is lower. *2: LinkSpeed settings: Fabric connection (Fibre Channel switch connection) FC-AL connection Fibre Channel card MC-0JFC11, MC-0JFC21 Maximum Fibre Channel switch link speed 8Gbps 4Gbps 2Gbps 1Gbps ETERNUS 2000 ETERNUS4000, ETERNUS8000 8Gbps FC-CA 4Gbps FC-CA Do not modify any parameters other than those described here. The following describes each parameter: - "Topology" parameter Set the connection type of the server and ETERNUS Disk storage systems. - "QueueDepth" parameter Set the command queue depth. - "QueueTarget" parameter Set to specify the command queue depth to either the LUN or to the target. - "LinkSpeed" parameter Set the LinkSpeed. 28
Chapter 3 Setup Procedure for PRIMEQUEST 1000 series > 3.1 Setup Procedure for MC-0JFC11 and MC-0JFC21 Fibre Channel Cards 5 After the values have been modified, click the [Apply] button. Values that have been modified but not yet applied are displayed in red in the [Value] column. Click the [Apply] button. 6 If there are multiple cards, repeat Step 2 through Step 4 to change the settings for all cards. 7 After all the cards have been set, select [Exit] from the [File] menu to quit the "OneCommand Manager".
