Package Contents The SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking command line interface (CLI) package includes the following: Windows package file: niccli-<version>-win.zip contains the utility files, configuration file, and readme (this file). 2. Requirements This section defines the minimum hardware and software requirements. 2.1 Hardware Requirements SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI requires the following minimum hardware: SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI Readme File 1 of 6

2 QLogic QLE81xx, QMI81xx, or QMC814x Converged Network Adapter Single- or multi-processor server or workstation Pentium II class 300 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 1 MB disk space 2.2 Software Requirements SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI requires the following minimum software: QLogic QLE81xx, QMI81xx, or QMC814x NIC and FCoE drivers 3. Supported Features Use SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI to view QLE81xx, QMI81xx, and QMC814x Adapter status and configuration information. NOTE: For detailed user information, syntax, and command options, refer to the SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI User's Guide. Features provided with SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI include the following: Asset Management: View information at host, Converged Network Adapter, port, and Ethernet interface for QLogic 81xx Adapters. 3 Update VLAN and team driver. View port data center bridging (DCB) information such as enhanced transmission selection (ETS) and more. Configuration Management: Add and remove VLANs on QLogic adapter ports and teams. Add and remove Ethernet teaming on QLogic adapter ports. Supported team modes include the following: Failover - Provides redundancy through automatic failover from an active adapter to a standby adapter. Load balancing (per-destination) - Provides transmit traffic load balancing between even and odd destination IP addresses. Configure various parameters at port and Ethernet interface. MAC and port alias. Statistics: Statistics available for each adapter port. Statistics can be reset at any time. Diagnostics: Perform internal loopback tests. Ping another host or device to verify connectivity between the port and a host or device. Ability to enable and disable port beaconing. 5. Using SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI This section provides procedures for the following: 5.1 Installing SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI 5.2 Removing SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI 5.3 Getting Help 5.1 Installing SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI The windows installation package name is niccli-<version>_win.msi; it does not have a subtype. The file name extension for Windows is niccli-<version>-win.zip. To install SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI: 1. Create a temporary directory. 2. Unzip the zip file into that directory. 3. Double-click the niccli-<version>_win.msi file. 4. Follow the wizard instructions to complete the installation. 4 5.2 Removing SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI To remove SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI: On the Windows desktop, click Start, point to All Programs, point to QLogic Management Suite, and then click Uninstall SANsurfer Converged Network Adapter Networking CLI. 5.3 Getting Help To get help: In interactive mode: On the main menu, select the Help option. In non-interactive mode: At the netscli prompt, issue the -h command. 6. If you copy the utility to another directory, you must also copy the DLL and EXE files to the same location. 6.2 Teams and VLANs for Windows Supported team modes include the following: Failover provides redundancy through automatic failover from an active adapter to a standby adapter. Load balancing (per destination) provides transmit traffic load balancing between even and odd destination IP addresses. After creating a VLAN or adding a VLAN to a NIC team, the existing Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties (IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway) are not saved. Instead, a completely new Local Area Connection appears under Network Connections, where you can set and save new Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties. Prior to creating a team, ensure that the primary adapter has all required configuration set, including JumboPacket, HeaderdataSplit, LargeSendOffload, and more. After the team is created, you can modify the settings (for example, the JumboPacket) following these steps: 1. On the Physical Adapter, change the setting. 2. Do one of the following: Perform a reboot on the server. In the Device Manager, disable and then enable the Teaming NIC adapter. 6.3 Teams and VLAN Interfaces and Driver Upgrade for Windows Before upgrading a VLAN/Teaming driver, you must save the team and VLAN interface network configuration information (IP address, netmask, and so on). After the VLAN/Teaming driver upgrade is complete, you can use the saved IP configuration information to restore network configuration information. 6 6.4 Teams and VLAN Interfaces Save and Restore Operations Before saving a VLAN/Teaming configuration, you must also independently save the team and VLAN interface network configuration information (IP address, netmask, and so on). This information is currently not automatically saved and used to restore a VLAN/Teaming configuration. After the VLAN/Teaming configuration has been restored, you can use the saved IP configuration information to restore network configuration information. 7. Known Issues and Workarounds This release includes the following known issue: Performing an internal loopback test on a port that is currently being used in a boot from SAN configuration is not supported and will cause a loss in connection between the system and the remote FCoE storage. 8.
