2 READ ME As of November 2016, we introduced an update for our Flex Service to optimise security. This means that existing customers who have the Flex Service installed on the server need to upgrade to the latest version. When you upgrade to the latest Flex version it will enforce a policy which means that the 2016 software installed (ProDesign, ProDesign Domestic, SingleCable, Protect HV and PowerNet) which aren t on Patch 2 or above will have to be upgraded, otherwise you may receive some errors (see FAQ sheet at the end of this guide). In order to download the latest version of Amtech Flex Service and apply it on the server, please see the instructions below. About The Flex Service is a third party tool used to manage how many users can access the software at any given time. It relies on the client side to communicate with the service via the port & server name / IP Address. The service is created via LMTools and should only take 5 minutes to configure and install assuming the pre requisites have been fulfilled and all information in the license file is accurate. Pre Requisites You must have full administration rights on the machine you are installing the service on You may need to allow the programs through your systems firewall and therefor permission (see FAQs) You must have a 2016 flex license file, if not it can be requested via filling in the form via the link below Nb. The information required of this is as follows: o Your Current Amtech License Number o Server Name / IP Address o Mac Address or Host ID o Available Port Number o Which Versions of the software you will be using o Borrowing System Requirements Windows Server 2008 or higher n.b this will not run on a Windows Server 2003 or lower Flex Download Links 32bit 64bit Trimble - Jan 2017 Page 2 of 9

3 New Installation of Flex Service This must be installed on the machine which will act as the Flex License Server If this is an upgrade, please go to Page 5 Avg Time To Install: 10 minutes Step 1: Request a Flex license form (see pg2 - Pre Requisites) and fill in all the relevant details. Step 2: Download the Flex installation file (see pg2 Flex Download Links) Step 3: Click the link and extract the executable to C:\AMTECHFLEX64 Step 4: Navigate to that folder and copy the license file across that you were sent. Your folder should look similar to the below (the license file name will be changed to your company name). Step 5: Open up a command prompt window in the directory of the folder you are in (typically C:\AMTECHFLEX64). This can be done via holding down SHIFT + RIGHT MOUSE CLICK on a blank space in that folder Once the command window is open type in: lmcrypt.exe yourlicensefile.lic followed by enter Nb. replace yourlicensefile.lic with your actual license file name Trimble - Jan 2017 Page 3 of 9

4 Step 6: Open up LMTools, click on Config Services a. Rename the service to be AMTECH b. Link the lmgrd.exe file c. Link the license file d. Keep the log file in the same location e. Tick Use Services & Start Server at Power Up f. Finally click Save Service 7 Step 7: Click on the Start/Stop/Reread and click Start followed by Reread. If this is successful, you will see two messages at the bottom of your screen: Step 8: Final Step In order to see if it is working properly click on Server Status and then Perform Status Enquiry. This will give you a list of all the licenses which are free and are in use. If they are in use, it will give you the PC Name / IP address of the PC using it. 5 Upgrading Current Flex Avg Time To Install: minutes If you have an existing Flex License file which is for the current version of the software you are using, ignore Step 1 Step 1: Request a Flex license form (see pg2 - Pre Requisites) and fill in all the relevant details. Removing the Old Service Step 2: Download the Flex installation file (see pg2 Flex Download Links) Step 3: Navigate to your current AMTECHFLEX folder, typically on C:\ and open up LMTools Step 4: Click on the Start/Stop/Reread tab, highlight the AMTECH service and click Stop Server Step 5: Go to Config Services select AMTECH from the drop down list and click Remove Service followed by Yes This deletes the service and allows you to delete the C:\AMTECHFLEX64 Trimble - Jan 2017 Page 5 of 9

6 Step 6: Go back to the root of C:\ and rename the AMTECHFLEX64 folder as you will replace it with the newly downloaded one. Step 7: From the downloaded file earlier, please extract it to C:\AMTECHFLEX64 and continue Step 8: Copy your license file from the old AMTECHFLEX64 folder to the new one and Final Step: Click here to go to Page 3 and carry on from Step 5 OR see below Step 9: Open up a command prompt window in the directory of the folder you are in (C:\AMTECHFLEX64). 8 Using Older Versions with the new Flex Service After upgrading the Flex Service, you will notice that the older software from 2015 and below will not work. This is because they require two files to be copied into the installation directory typically C:\Amtech2015 When you upgrade to Amtech 2016 Patch 2 or higher, you will notice in each of their installation folders there are two files called oldfonts.dll and oldfonts64.dll Simply copy these two files in to the software directory you wish to use, so for example if you wish to use ProDesign 2015, you would need to copy both of these files to C:\Amtech2015\ProDesign; for Single Cable 2014 you would need to copy it to C:\Amtech2014\SingleCable Nb. This has to be done on each of the installation folders of the programs you use (except PowerNet) Using FastTest2016 with the new Flex Service The above method needs to be applied to FastTest 2016 as well as we haven t had an update for it and those two files are not included in that folder. You will need to copy across the oldfonts.dll & oldfonts64.dll to C:\Amtech2016\FastTest Using PowerNet 2015 and previous versions If you upgrade to the latest Flex version, you will only be able to user PowerNet 2016 Patch 2 (or higher) as it doesn t follow the same structure as the other applications do. PowerNet 2016 Patch 2 (or higher) can run your existing old PowerNet files as it doesn t contain different version numbers in the way it saves and reads files. Once this has been applied, you will now be able to open up the software without getting an error message pop up. Trimble - Jan 2017 Page 8 of 9

9 FAQ Error Messages Error Messages If you receive an error whilst opening your Trimble Amtech Software then the points below will guide you on how to resolve this issue. Bad encryption handshake with vendor daemon Issue This message appears when you re running Patch 2 or higher of the 2016 software but the Flex Service is only dated to work with Pre-Patch 2 Resolution Upgrade the Flex License Server to match the version of the software you are using: LMTools Version ProDesign 2016 P2 or higher LMTools Version 11.6 ProDesign2016 P1 or less Invalid (inconsistent) license key Issue You have upgraded the Flex License Server but you do not have the appropriate oldfonts.dll & oldfonts64.dll in the directory to communicate with the service (see Page 8). Resolution A. Upgrade to the latest patch of the 2016 software to include these files B. If you re using an older version copy oldfonts.dll & oldfonts64.dll from the root path and copy it to the new location Cannot connect to license server system Issue There is a connectivity issue with Client and Server. It could be caused on either side so try the following to diagnose the issue Diagnosis Server Side Check that the service is running via LMTools or services.msc under AMTECH Check that the server details are the same in the license file. Open up the license file using Notepad and see if the IP address / server name, mac address & port number are still correct and current. Check to see if you can ping the client machine Turn the firewall off temporarily and try to connect If all of that is fine, then try to diagnose it from the client side instead Client Side Check that you ping the license server Check to see if you are trying to connect to the correct server in the registry via the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Amtech\Common\Licensing and check the FlexLicenseLocation key matches what is in the License File on the server Trimble - Jan 2017 Page 9 of 9
