5 Introduction to the Service and Management Consoles The HPE 3PAR Service Console (SC) is an appliance which collects data from an attached 3PAR StoreServ Storage system in predefined intervals as well as an on-demand basis and sends the data to the HPE 3PAR Secure Service Architecture (SSA) infrastructure, if configured. The SP is the platform on which the SC runs. It sends support data back to Hewlett Packard Enterprise and provides a way for Hewlett Packard Enterprise Technical Support Engineers to remotely log in to resolve problems. The SC is the GUI for the SP and it replaces SPOCC. It provides a streamlined, more usable interface with a layout that closely resembles the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Management Console (SSMC). 3PAR StoreServ Management Console software provides contemporary browser-based interfaces for monitoring 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems. SSMC is a standalone product that installs as a single package. It consists of two consoles: the Administrator console and the Main console. The Administrator console allows you to add, edit, and remove StoreServ systems. The Main console provides the features you can use to manage the StoreServ systems you have added. For the SP 5.0 release, SSMC must be installed on a separate system, and only one 3PAR StoreServ Storage system can be attached to a single SP. Figure 1: Overview of Service Processor and SSMC setup on page 5 displays an overview of the SP setup process, and Figure 2: Storage virtualization overview on page 6 displays an overview of how virtual storage is used. 7 Introduction to the Service Processor Each HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage system requires a Service Processor (SP). The SP can be either physical or virtual. The SP is designed to provide remote monitoring, error detection and reporting, and supports diagnostic and maintenance activities involving the storage system. The SP only sends support data to HPE 3PAR Remote Support. The virtual SP is deployed as a virtual machine (VM). The virtual SP software is provided in an Open Virtual Format (OVF) for VMware vsphere hypervisor and self-extractable virtual hard disk (VHD) package for Hyper-V. The virtual SP runs on a customer-owned and customer-provided server, and communicates with the storage system over its Ethernet connection. Introduction to the Service Processor 7

9 Default User Accounts This section describes the default user accounts that are created during Service Processor and StoreServ initialization. Default SP User Accounts During the initialization operation of the Service Processor, the following user accounts are created: admin, hpepartner, and hpesupport. The same user names and passwords can be used to log in to the Service Console and the SP system through the command line. SP 5.0 user name SP 4.4 user name Description admin 3parcust Customer SP administrator. This account is not used by Hewlett Packard Enterprise personnel and can be modified by the user. This account can be used to change admin and hpepartner passwords, and obtain root and hpesupport password blobs to send to Hewlett Packard Enterprise technical support. hpepartner spvar Hewlett Packard Enterprise support partner. This account is used only by authorized service providers to perform service and diagnostic functions on the system. The hpepartner password is set by the customer and stored so that it can be shared with on-site Hewlett Packard Enterprise or authorized service personnel during maintenance activities (and changed again afterwards). hpesupport spdood Hewlett Packard Enterprise technical support. This account is used only by Hewlett Packard Enterprise personnel to perform service and diagnostic functions on the system. Passwords for the admin and hpepartner users must be 8 32 characters in length, and contain at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 digit, and 1 non-alphanumeric character. The admin user can set the hpepartner password to control access to the service console and the SP. When setting the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support password for the Service Processor, you must specify the type of password generation used to create the hpesupport password. Passwords generation can be one of the following types: Time-based Password is time-based and changes at the start of each hour, therefore it is important that the time on the SP is accurate. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends using an NTP server to keep the time on the SP accurate. Encryption-based Uses encrypted passwords for Hewlett Packard Enterprise support. Customers will need to send the encrypted ciphertext blob to their Hewlett Packard Enterprise support person for them to obtain the password from Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The password will be changed each time the key is regenerated, and the password derived from the previous key will no longer be valid. Default CLI User Accounts During the 3PAR StoreServ Storage system s initialization operation, the following 3PAR CLI user accounts are created: Default User Accounts 9

10 User name 3paradm 3parcim 3parbrowse 3paredit Description User account with Super rights. 28 Host and virtual volume concepts This chapter provides a brief description of 3PAR StoreServ Storage system hosts and virtual volumes. For more information on these concepts, see HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage Concepts Guide. Host concepts A 3PAR StoreServ Storage system treats a host as a set of initiator port WWNs or iscsi names. Hosts that are physically connected to ports on a storage system are detected automatically. New WWNs or iscsi names can be assigned to host paths before hosts are physically connected. These names do not need to be associated with target ports on the system controller nodes. This provides plug-andplay functionality that avoids manual reconfiguration after new hosts are connected. FCoE connectivity is supported on 3PAR StoreServ 7000, 8000, 10000, and Storage systems through the use of CNA adapters. CNA ports can be configured to be used as FCoE or iscsi ports. Active and inactive hosts An active host is connected to a storage system port and is recognized by the HPE 3PAR operating system as having a port connection. An active host might have a number of volumes exported to it. An inactive host is recognized by the HPE 3PAR OS, but does not appear to have a port connection. This can occur when a host is offline or is disconnected from a system port, or if there is an error condition. Host personas A host persona is a set of behaviors that allows hosts that are connected to FC or iscsi ports to deviate from the default host behavior. By assigning a persona to a host, multiple host types that require different responses can share the same storage system port. For example, hosts running Windows, Linux, and AIX operating systems can connect to the same storage system port. Virtual volume concepts Users create virtual volumes in common provisioning groups and export (present) the virtual volumes to hosts. After a virtual volume is created, its size can be increased up to a maximum size. The maximum size depends on the version of the HPE 3PAR OS, but it cannot exceed 16 TiB. When you create a virtual volume (VV) you must select the type of provisioning to use. Full A fully provisioned virtual volume is one in which the space that is allocated at creation time is the full capacity (size) of the virtual volume. For example, when a fully provisioned virtual volume is created with a 10 GiB virtual capacity, the storage system allocates the full 10 GiB of space. Thin A thinly provisioned virtual volume is one in which a minimal amount of the space is allocated at creation time. After the virtual volume is exported to a host, the virtual volume size grows automatically with the host writes, up to the user-defined size limit. For example, when a thinly provisioned virtual volume is created with a 10 GiB virtual capacity, the storage system initially allocates only GiB (0.5 GiB user space and GiB admin space). After the virtual volume is exported to a host, and the data grows with host writes, the storage system automatically increases the virtual capacity, up to the 10 GiB limit. There are automatic and user-defined alerts to help manage the virtual capacity. Creation of thinly provisioned virtual volumes on a storage system requires a 3PAR Thin Provisioning software license. Dedup A thinly deduplicated virtual volume is a thinly provisioned virtual volume with in-line deduplication. In-line deduplication eliminates duplicate writes to help extend the life of SSD physical drives. 28 Host and virtual volume concepts

38 The Text-based User Interface The Text-based User Interface (TUI) is a utility on the Service Processor (SP) that enables limited configuration and management of the SP and access to an attached StoreServ s CLI. The intent of the TUI is not to duplicate the functionality of the SC GUI, but to allow a way to fix problems that may prevent you from using the SC GUI. The TUI appears the first time you log in to the Linux console opened from the VMware vsphere Client or through a terminal emulator using SSH. Prior to SP initialization, you can log in to the TUI with the user name admin and no password. To access the TUI after the SP has been initialized, log in with the admin user password you created during the initialization or as the hpepartner user. The admin and hpepartner users will automatically be placed in the TUI when they login to the Linux console. The Service Processor ID and model are always displayed in the heading. Before the SP is initialized, the SP ID is displayed as SP After initialization, the actual ID assigned to the SP during initialization is displayed. TUI navigation To access the dialog associated with an option, press the number key associated with that option. For example, to select the Configure Network option, press the 1 key. NOTE: The TUI does not accept numbers entered using the numpad of the keyboard. Use the up and down arrow keys to move from one option to another. The currently selected option will be highlighted. Pressing the Enter key will select the currently highlighted option. To return to the console login screen, press the X key on any screen where that option appears. Text-based User Interface (TUI) tasks Main menu options Prior to SP initialization, the TUI utility provides the following options: 1. Configure Network 2. Shutdown/Start SP services 3. Reboot SP 4. Enter Y or N to confirm the settings. 9. After the Network configuration successful message displays, enter X to return to main menu. Shutting down/starting SP services From the TUI main menu, enter the number for either Shutdown SP services or Start SP services. Shutting down SP services makes the Service Console GUI no longer accessible through your web browser. Starting SP services enables SP management with the Service Console GUI through your web browser. NOTE: While SP services are stopped, certain tasks, such as telemetry data collection, are suspended. Rebooting the Service Processor From the TUI main menu, enter the number for Reboot SP. This option will reboot the Service Processor. You must log in to the console as admin again to access the TUI. You can log in as admin without a password until the SP is initialized. After initialization you must log in with the administrator credentials you set during initialization. Shutting down the Service Processor From the TUI main menu, enter the number for Shutdown SP. This option will shut down the Service Processor and exit the console. You must manually restart the SP to access it again. 40 Configuring the network

41 Accessing Secure Password Management This option is only available after SP Setup. NOTE: Only the admin user account can view a password blob or change the password policy. 1. From the TUI main menu, enter the number for Secure Password Management. The current password mode (TIME or ENCRYPT) is displayed, along with the option to change the mode. For encrypted passwords, you are given additional options to display the root or hpesupport password blobs. 2. When you select an option to display the password blob for the root or hpesupport accounts, the password ciphertext for the specified user is displayed. You can then copy the entire ciphertext blob and send it to Hewlett Packard Enterprise for Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support to obtain the password. When copying the ciphertext, copy the text starting with the line Begin tpd blob and ending with End tpd blob including those two lines. Disabling Remote Support on initial SP setup This option is available only prior to SP initialization. Accessing Secure Password Management 41
