1 IrfanView Manual Image Software helpline4life This not a complete manual for IrfanView. We only want to cover enough information for you to be able to resize and crop images so that you can send them to us. (although we find it a useful tool for changing colours) Downloading IrfanView free software Type into your web browser address bar - You will be taken to the site, and on the left there is the option to download the program. (This view may change but basically it will have the same information) Click on the download button, you will then be given a list of options from which to down load IrfanView. We recommend that you either use TUCOWS or CNET to download the program

2 You will then be taken to the tucows or CNET site, click on the download now button, Then you will be asked to run or save, click save, and follow the on screen prompts, we suggest that you download to your desktop. Loading an Image Click on the shortcut created on your desktop

3 You will be presented with a popup, click on the file menu button top left, select open from the drop down menu and then navigate to the picture folder on your computer. Select an image and this will appear in IrfanView. Maximise the pop up at this point. If the image is very large click the - button until the whole of the image is viewable on screen. Not always necessary dependant on image size

4 Resizing Your Image Before you resize your image, crop it to select the part of the image that demonstrates your product/services etc. To do this click on the image with the left mouse button and keep your finger pressed on the button and drag it across your image, you will create a box containing the part of the image you want to keep. When happy with the new view, let go of the mouse button. Click on the Edit tool and then select crop selection the new view will then be available to resize. To resize your image select the Image button on the top of the IrfanView page. A new menu will appear click on resize/resample

Your website will be about 1000 pixels wide, a thumbnail image is usually 100-150 pixels wide. Usually you will not need to send an Image wider or higher than 400 pixels.

5 A popup will appear with the size of your image given in pixels. Make sure that the Preserve aspect ration box is ticked. Then type in the size, in pixels, that you need to reduce your image to, type in either the height or width box. Your website will be about 1000 pixels wide, a thumbnail image is usually pixels wide. Usually you will not need to send an Image wider or higher than 400 pixels. Please change this number to 72 DPI Click OK when completed Once you are happy with the changes, you then need to save your changed image with another name, this will preserve the original unaltered picture. You can then reuse it later if needed. Click File, and choose Save As. You can then save the new picture in a suitable place (create a folder for your web images) to be uploaded into your web page when convenient

6 Once you have resized your image you can see the file size if you select the image menu then choose information. Near the bottom of the popup in Current memory size it states the reduced size of image. (Although the above illustration at 24Mb is still far too large) If you have 4 or more images on the page we need to get the image size down to under 100kb, hence the need for you to crop the image you are sending us. If you have a large image on a page to demonstrate the quality of product etc., we will reduce this to about 250kb. This will maintain the speed of your page loading, you don t want people to go elsewhere because it loads to slowly. NOTE: If you want to review and resize several images from the same folder you can click the right arrow at the top to move to the next image in the folder. N.B.
