Baggage Reference Manual (BRM) 2nd Edition - June 2017 TABLE OF CONTENTS SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS... 1 OPENING THE PUBLICATION... 1 ACTIVATION... 2 PROXY SUPPORT... 4 UPDATES... 4 ABOUT PRINTING AND COPYING CONTENT... 5 IATA ONLINE... 5 SUPPORT... 5 NOTES... 5 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - IATA Reader for Windows application - Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/10 (see "NOTES ON WINDOWS 8/10") - Intel Pentium or compatible processor - Microsoft.NET Framework 4.x Administrator permissions are required for.net installation - Internet connection (for activation, updates and downloads) OPENING THE PUBLICATION To view this product, the IATA Reader for Windows software is required. The IATA Reader is the single application required to view all compatible IATA content for Windows computers. The IATA Reader needs to be installed only once. If the IATA Reader is already installed, simply download/save the document using the link in the you received after your purchase and double-click it to open it in the Reader. IATA Reader document files have a ".mirdoc" extension. If the IATA Reader is not installed, follow the instructions below to install the IATA Reader prerequisite and the application. --.NET 4.x Framework -- Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7 Before installing the IATA Reader, validate if a variant of the.net Framework 4 framework is installed. Consult this resource on the Microsoft web site to help you determine which versions of.net are installed: For Windows Vista users, the.net Framework 4 can be downloaded from Microsoft at For Windows 7 users, the.net Framework 4 can be downloaded from Microsoft at Note that administrator rights are required to install. Windows 8.x or Windows 10 A variant of.net 4.x framework should already be installed. brm02-system-req-installation Page 1 of 5 IATA 2017 All Rights Reserved
-- Install the IATA Reader -- Request an IATA Reader installer download link from Click the download link included in the that will be sent to you to download the installer package. Run the installer package and follow the instructions. Administrator rights are not required to install in a location where you have read/write access. Note that access rights requirements are subject to policies enforced by your organisation. Important for Windows XP users: If installation from an account with limited privileges is wanted, please install the.net framework from an account with administrator privileges first. Accounts with limited privileges cannot install.net framework. It is important to install the application from the account it is going to be used because updates will be applied using the user account. If rights are not available to the user doing the update then the update may fail. For example if the IT department decides to install the IATA Reader using the administrator account, for all users, the users may be not be able to update the application since writing the updated files will be attempted in locations requiring administrator rights. -- Opening the document -- The you received after purchasing the document contains the document download link. Download the document to your desktop and double-click it to open it in the IATA Reader. IATA Reader document files have a ".mirdoc" extension. You can also re-download the document from You will need the product key and an address to request the download link. Documents do not need to be reopened. The Reader keeps all opened documents in its repository. For next sessions, launch the IATA Reader, locate your publication in the Library and open it. Once a document is opened in the IATA Reader, the document file (.mirdoc) can be archived as it is no longer needed. ACTIVATION This IATA publication must be activated before it can be used. The activation requires a working internet connection. Activation will be requested the first time the publication is opened. Follow the instructions on screen to activate. To activate you must have your product key in hand. The product key is provided in an we sent you. Keep it safely in your records. It will be asked, along with purchase information, if support is needed. The activation process also asks for an address. The address will be necessary, in particular, to retrieve your product key in case it is lost and validate ownership. The address will only be used for matters regarding this IATA product. If neither the product key nor the address can be provided and verified, support cannot be offered. Your product key can be used to activate the IATA publication on a single computer. The product key is for your sole usage and should not be shared. Please read the EULA for details about the single user license terms and conditions. Firewall information The activation and subsequent validations are performed using the proxy settings of Internet Explorer. HTTP protocol is used. The executable "TurboActivate.exe" is used to perform the activation and may need to be added to the list of approved applications. The following sites may be reached during activation and validation: brm02-system-req-installation Page 2 of 5 IATA 2017 All Rights Reserved
The following ports are used: - 80 (http) (https) Virtual environment Activation will be denied on virtual environments. Virtual environments include, for example, Remote Services and RemoteApp, Citrix solutions based on Xen technologies, Hyper-V enabled computers, emulation software from VMWare, Oracle, etc. To activate on virtual environments, please contact IATA using the support address pubsupport@iata.org. Manual activation If automatic, online activation is not possible from the application, you can perform a manual/offline activation. A manual activation is performed using a request/response process: 1) Generate then register an Activation Request with the activation system and 2) Generate then register an Activation Response with the application. The Activation Request is generated from the publication's activation wizard. It is a simple text file that contains XML data understood by the activation system. Once generated, the Activation Request must be registered with the activation system. To do so, navigate your browser to " and select the "Activate a product manually" section. The activation Request file MUST be generated from the computer on which the publication is going to be used but the files may be uploaded and downloaded from a different computer. Upload the Activation Request file and, upon successful validation, you will be prompted to download the Activation Response file. As with the request file, the Activation Response file is a simple text file containing XML data. Download/save the Activation Response file to your desktop, for example, and import that file back into the publication's activation wizard to complete the process. As with the request file, the response file can be downloaded from another computer that has a working internet browser, then copied and imported on the computer where the IATA software is installed. If no internet is available, you will need to send the Activation Request file attached to an addressed to pubsupport@iata.org. The support team will send an Activation Response file to complete the process. Send the file from a computer that has a functionning software. Deactivation If the publication needs to be installed on a new computer, or the publication needs to be provided to another user, the current installation must be deactivated with our server first. Internet access is required for easy online deactivation. If internet is not available to the application or the computer hosting the IATA publication, a manual deactivation will be required. Deactivation can be performed using the following methods: 1. By using the "Deactivate Online" button in the Activation tab on the publication's Control Panel. The Control Panel applet is accessed using the "dented wheel icon" on the publication's tile. Internet access is required. This performs a "hard" deactivation in the sense that the product key is completely removed from the computer. 2. By doing a manual deactivation. Internet is not required on the computer hosting the application. Use the "Offline Deactivation" button in the Activation tab on the Control Panel applet. The Control Panel applet is accessed using the "dented wheel icon" on the publication's tile. That option deactivates the publication from the computer and generates a Deactivation Request file on your desktop. On a computer with internet access, navigate to " and select the "Deactive a product manually" section. Upload the Deactivation Request file to return the license to the server. If no internet is available at all, you will need to send the Deactivation Request file attached to an addressed to pubsupport@iata.org. The support team will complete the process on your behalf. Send the file from a computer that has a functionning software. 3. By removing the publication from the IATA Reader. Internet access is required. The removal process will automatically try to deactivate the publication online. brm02-system-req-installation Page 3 of 5 IATA 2017 All Rights Reserved
Reactivation on another computer You can activate this publication on another computer as long as the current installation gets deactivated properly with the activation server. Failure to notify our server of the deactivation will result in a "product key is already in use" message when reactivating on another computer. PROXY SUPPORT This application can use network proxy information for activation and update communication. If you experience problems with online activation and update notifications you may need to configure the application to use proxy parameters. Consult with your network authorities to validate if your network requires proxy to access the internet. The proxy parameters are coded in a file named "config.ini" that must reside in the publication's installation folder. That file is a simple text file and does not exist by default. The file is typically managed through the Control Panel accessible from the publication's tile ("dented wheel" icon). The following parameters must be added to the config.ini file and filled in according to your network specifications: [proxy] username= password= host= port= domain= complete= Note 1: Only the "host" parameter is mandatory. If omitted the proxy parameters will NOT be used. Note 2: Use the "complete" parameter if the other parameters cannot be encoded to satisfaction. The "complete" parameter, if present and non-empty, takes precendence and is used "as is" by the activation process. The auto-update process **will not** use the "complete" parameter. The format is " Note 3: The pre-activation wizard initiated when the publication is first viewed can be used to enter and store the proxy parameters. Note 4: If the proxy parameters are added manually, the application will automatically write the parameters back, encrypted, for security reasons. Credentials such as these are not allowed to remain in clear in the config file. The pre-activation wizard writes the parameters encrypted. Note 5: Read/write access to the installation folder is required for the activation process to write the config.ini file or for automatic encryption to happen. Note 6: The "Proxy Server" tab of the Control Panel applet (accessible using the "dented wheel" icon on the publication's tile) is also available to configure the proxy parameters. UPDATES If available for this product, updates will be provided through updated document file (mirdoc) available for download on pubdownload.iata.org. The IATA Reader notifies of an update using a green "down arrow" icon on the publication's tile, in the Library. Click that icon to display the update window from which you can download and install the updated document. An internet connection is required. brm02-system-req-installation Page 4 of 5 IATA 2017 All Rights Reserved
Important: The update notification mechanism only works if the Library content can be updated. The Library content is updated everytime the IATA Reader starts, by default. Please consult the IATA Reader ReadMe file for more information about the Library content update and the Library XML file. To manually update a publication, request to download the document from pubdownload.iata.org, download the document and re-open the publication from the updated document file. The Reader will overwrite the repository files with the updated files. Important: the auto-updating functionality of the IATA Reader DOES NOT update publications. ABOUT PRINTING AND COPYING CONTENT This publication has no printing capabilitiy. Copying of content is limited to a certain number of characters. IATA ONLINE Find out more about the International Air Transport Association online at: SUPPORT For software support please contact IATA Product Support, indicating the product name and edition in the "Subject" field. pubsupport@iata.org NOTES Intel and Pentium are trademarks or registered trademarks of Intel Corporation or its subsidiaries in the United States and other countries.
