2 V Z Note Zebra does not distribute the files necessary to change the Hardware ID on a printer. New Features This firmware release provides support for the Symbol LA WW Compact Flash Wireless Radio Card. The Compact Flash Wireless Card (CF card) is a replacement for discontinued Wireless cards. When using the new Symbol CF card, you must use a PCMCIA to Compact Flash adapter. Note All other supported Wireless cards do not require this adapter. When upgrading to this new firmware, the wireless network settings on the printer may be set to the factory default settings. We recommend resetting the wireless settings on your printer after upgrading the firmware. The wireless settings can be sent to the printer using the SetWLAN utility that came with the Wireless Print Server or with our Printer Management utility, ZebraNet Bridge. Both utilities are available for download at our web site. V Z Release Date: 31 March 2006 This firmware release includes all features of V B and all previous V # releases. It is for use with the following printer models: Z4Mplus Z6Mplus 90XiIIIPlus 110XiIIIPlus 140XiIIIPlus 170XiIIIPlus (including 200 dpi) 220XiIIIPlus (including 300 dpi) PAX4 series Some 105SL printers Important Effective 31 March 2006, Zebra will no longer offer ZBI functionality. After 31 March 2006, Zebra will no longer make, distribute, or support firmware with ZBI functionality on any new products. After 01 September 2006, all support for ZBI functionality on all products will end. 3 . V Z 3 New Features This firmware release does not contain Zebra Basic Interpreter (ZBI) functionality. Most customers do not use ZBI and will notice no change in printer performance. If you know your application requires ZBI functionality, please see the contact information listed below or visit Geographic Location Telephone Toll-free FAX The Americas Asia Pacific Europe, Africa, Please contact your supplier. Middle East, India All V60-supported printers can now use the Reprint feature with the following functionality Allows the REPRINT function to be enabled via the LCD and ^JJ. Enables REPRINT to function when the real time clock (RTC) and/or serial number is in the label format for all methods of requesting Last Label Reprint. Enables the Last Label Reprint to happen when the minus ( ) button is pressed on a Z4Mplus/Z6Mplus. The ~PR command could also be sent to generate a reprint. Enables the Last Label Reprint to happen when the previous button is pressed on XiIIIPlus and 105SL printers.the ~PR command could also be sent to generate a reprint. (RTC is not currently supported on the 105SL.) Reprint through the Applicator Port is now available on XiIIIPlus printers. The PAX4 now includes a selectable Ribbon Low signal from the printers LCD. It is now possible to change the Print Speed and Slew Speed through the control panel of a printer with V Z firmware while printing a batch of labels. Once saved, the change takes immediate effect. In addition to setting the Delayed Cut feature (added with V firmware) through PRINT MODE on the control panel of the printer, it can also be activated with a ^MMD command. This enables the printer to react to a ~JK command and cut a label. Without the Delayed Cut feature enabled, the printer will ignore the ~JK command. The ~JK (Delayed Cut) instruction will cut a label on demand. The printer s PRINT MODE must be set to Delayed Cut (^MMD) and there must be a label waiting to be cut for this instruction to function. The printer will wait to receive the ~JK command before cutting. Note Reprint is available only for the last label printed. 03/31/ L-001 Rev. A

4 V Z Issues Corrected In the ^BX Datamatrix barcode command, the default value has been changed for the parameter g to ~ from _. End-users with V , V Z, V B, or V ZB code can continue to modify the g parameter to their liking, and the default value of g for those users will continue to be the underscore_. For versions prior to the V releases, the default was ~. A reported issue was corrected to improve response timing for the ~HS command with V60. (Z4M and 105SL). Corrected issue with PAX4 where RIBBON LENGTH setting would only go up to 450M, instead of 900M. Corrected an issue with the human readable on serial shipping container code missing parentheses (). The parentheses, as well as blank spaces, will now display when a CODE 128 barcode using application identifiers is set to generate its own interpretation line. Other invalid characters for the barcode will not be displayed. Corrected an issue with ~RO resetting only 2 of 3 advanced counters for XiIIIPlus printers which includes when sending the ~RO2 so all counters are reset to 0. Previously, only IN and CM.LABLES counters were reset, while counter 2 was not. Corrected an issue when ~RO is sent to reset the counters. The previous value would come up after a power recycle. Change was made to resolve an issue with sensor reaction at media power up/head close on Z Series printers. The sensor no longer changes keyed in values and the sensor type will not go to web sensing first when Sensor Select is set to Auto Select. This will resolve calibration issues with unusual media. Corrected an issue with the RTC update interval. When set to 15 seconds the printer actually updated every 10 secs; if set to 30 seconds, it updated every 20. Corrected an issue with long graphics. For example, only 16.5 inches of a 16.8 inch graphic was being printed. The allowed image height was corrected to match the maximum input parameter. Corrected an issue with deleting a 22MB file from a 32MB Linear B: memory card. The failure would occur if you were to delete the file using ^XA^IDB:*.*^XZ, format the cards with ~JB, wait until processing is completed, and then try to download the file again. The printer would say it is stored, but not all of it was successful. If instead of sending the ~JB, you do a format card from the front panel, it worked fine. ~JB or format care from the front panel will now work correctly. Corrected an issue with printing serialized labels. The order in which the labels printed could go out of sequence. This occurred when the data was sent to the printer via a Zebra Print Server but was not a Print Server firmware issue L-001 Rev. A 03/31/2006

V ZB 5 V ZB Release Date: 31 March 2006 This firmware release includes all features of previous V # releases. Printers made after 31 March 2006 will no longer accept firmware created before 31 March Refer to Using Older Firmware on Newer Printers on page 11 for more information. Note V A was not released. New Features This firmware release does not contain Zebra Basic Interpreter (ZBI) functionality. Most customers do not use ZBI and will notice no change in printer performance. If you know your application requires ZBI functionality, please see the contact information listed below or visit Geographic Location Telephone Toll-free FAX The Americas Asia Pacific Europe, Africa, Middle East, India Please contact your supplier. For the 105SL printer, added the ability to set print speed from the printers front panel. Issues Corrected After running a.baz file, the ~DG would not download a graphic and print it. All file downloads now complete correctly after running a.baz file. Corrected a reported issue in V48.x and V60.x firmware where we are dropping/not printing some data on labels. Corrected an issue which was not allowing binary graphics to print from a printer s parallel port unless they were printed individually. 03/31/ L-001 Rev. A

6 V Z The new Aztec bar code, added within V , will support either ^BO or ^B0. The Aztec bar code will print when LIST BARCODES is selected from the front panel LCD. This was not the case with its initial release. Corrected an issue with the wireless print server. When it would attempt to send an alert, the connection was refused by the SMTP server and the alerts were not sent. Corrected an issue where during power-up/head close/calibration (printer default setting), the liner take-up spindle did not immediately turn and slack built up in the liner, which did not completely go away when the liner began take-up. Corrected an issue of not being able to print a short dash when utilizing ^CI in an AUTOEXEC File. A graphics rotation problem which could occur in any V60 supported printer has been corrected. The issue could cause a graphic to rotate when rotation of the graphic was not the desired result. V Z Release Date: 31 March 2006 This firmware release includes all features of previous V # releases and is based off of the existing V firmware for the XiIIIPlus printers. Note V was not released L-001 Rev. A 03/31/2006

V Z 7 New Features This firmware release does not contain Zebra Basic Interpreter (ZBI) functionality. Most customers do not use ZBI and will notice no change in printer performance. If you know your application requires ZBI functionality, please see the contact information listed below or visit Geographic Location Telephone Toll-free FAX The Americas Asia Pacific Europe, Africa, Please contact your supplier. Middle East, India Aztec Code bar code is now available with its own ZPL command (^BO). It is not yet displayed via the list of barcodes from the front panel. Delay cut feature (~JK) previously available in Specials only is now included in dot release firmware. Add Code Page 1252 bitmap fonts, plus OE character addition. This is not a full implementation of Code Page 1252 at this time. Issues Corrected Corrected SLEW SPEED and BACKFEED SPEED displayed on LCD Panel of PAX4 with the Japanese language setting. Fixed object files interchangeability (^HZO command). Correction is for issue impacting backward AND forward compatibility regarding object files on V60 printers. Object files on printers with pre V * code are now interchangeable with object files on printers with post V * code. Fixed issues with ^HW command addressing missing spaces between file size and option flags. Correction returns data based on what the ZPL manual says the printer will do (file name will be one to eight alphanumeric characters). For backwards compatibility two space characters were added. The correction retained the added 16 character file name support. Corrected LCD display issue with some phrases in French. Correct instance where a USB port would not print a set of labels. The printer stopped at different points during testing. When the printer stops, the data light is on but the LCD display indicates PRINTER READY. Corrected an issue causing a Symbol Card limitation of 30 digits for the ESSID value instead of the permitted 32 characters. 03/31/ L-001 Rev. A

8 V Z Corrected an issue which occurred when the RTC reached (midnight). The printer would stop printing and lock up (data light on, would not complete print job). When sending a file to create an AUTOEXEC.ZPL from the serial port using V B, you were not able to issue an ^HW command immediately to view the file directory. RIBBON LOW setting was reverting back to 25M after cycling power of the PAX4. The need to set IE to English in order to set ZNET Web Alerts has been eliminated. Setting the ^SL command to anything less than ^SL3 was causing the PAX engine to hang (labels would stop printing). The printer would eventually recover but the recovery time could be 35 seconds to 4 minutes. The number is the refresh rate in seconds. Setting this value at 3 or above causes labels to have the same time if you are processing labels quicker than every three seconds. The ideal will be to use ^SL1 (update every second). The fix allows for the use of ^SL1. V Z Release Date: 31 March 2006 This firmware release includes all features and fixes from V A and all previous V # releases, and is based off of the existing V firmware for the XiIIIPlus printers. It is for use with the following printer models: Z4Mplus Z6Mplus 110XiIIIPlus 170XiIIIPlus (including 200 dpi) 220XiIIIPlus (including 300 dpi) PAX4 series Some 105SL printers Important Effective 31 March 2006, Zebra will no longer offer ZBI functionality. After 31 March 2006, Zebra will no longer make, distribute, or support firmware with ZBI functionality on any new products. After 01 September 2006, all support for ZBI functionality on all products will end. 9 V Z 9 New Features This firmware release does not contain Zebra Basic Interpreter (ZBI) functionality. Most customers do not use ZBI and will notice no change in printer performance. If you know your application requires ZBI functionality, please see the contact information listed below or visit Geographic Location Telephone Toll-free FAX The Americas Asia Pacific Europe, Africa, Please contact your supplier. Middle East, India This firmware release now supports the combination of Real Time Clock and serialization in a single field. Issues Addressed Fixed issue where the Printer Description parameter for the ^KN command was accepting only 34 characters. It now accepts 35 characters as documented. Fixed issue where graphic files generated by ^IS were reporting a larger file size than in previous firmware versions. Corrected issue where an invalid MAC address was being displayed on the front panel if a wireless option board is installed and a PCMCIA memory card is inserted. Fixed issue where the wireless preamble mode was not being updated on the LCD after it was changed through ZPL commands. Corrected issue where calibration was not being run after the media type was changed from Continuous to Non-Continuous through the web page of the printer. Fixed a font spacing issue that occurs with Russian TTF s. Characters could be missing or could shift locations. Corrected issue exhibited on the 200 dpi 220XiIIIPlus only, where there was an extra box being printed on the HEAD TEMP Test labels of the CANCEL/FEED Power On Self Tests. Corrected issue where sending an invalid parameter for the ZebraNet Alert ^SX command is not being ignored, causing the printer not to print. After sending the command the data LED lights up and when sending text to the printer the data LED flashes, but nothing prints. Cycling power would regain printing. Fixed a problem where the extensions between similarly named files (for example: label.zpl and label.grf) were changed to have the same extension. Corrected an issue that occurs when trying to display a directory-listing format through the printer s web page. The page would not display. Resolved issue where the configuration label prints an extra empty box when the media is set to continuous and the label length equals certain values. PAX4: Corrected issue of stretched vertical bands printing out of sequence. PAX4: Corrected factory default of BACKFEED to AFTER, matching the PAX3. 03/31/ L-001 Rev. A

10 V Z PAX4: Corrected factory default of PRINT MODE to APPLICATOR, matching the PAX3. Added new menu item ERROR ON PAUSE to LCD Menu to allow the option to trigger an applicator error on a pause condition. Corrected issues where approximately 50 translations were misaligned in the list including the IP Address translation. The misaligned Finnish IP address menu displayed IP- OSOITE. It now displays as ETHERNET. Corrected issue where fonts downloaded with ~DS or ~DU were not stored and printed correctly. Corrected issue where the Code 128 bar code with the UCC Case Mode selected was not working the same as in previous firmware versions. In mode U, we now check for valid data. Corrected issue in Rewind Mode where the printer was stalling while changing the print width on small label lengths. Corrected issue caused when ^SC was positioned outside of ^XA...^XZ. This could cause communication lockout. The firmware now increments the counter if ^SC comes after ^XA and before ^XZ. Corrected issue with how ^HW displayed long file names. Changed supported file name strings to a global maximum length of 16 characters. The file extension maximum length is three characters. Truncation may be necessary for extensions to display properly. Corrected spindle issue where the spindle would not stop spinning if media breakage occurred while the printer is printing L-001 Rev. A 03/31/2006
