5 Chapter 1 Product Description Use this document to install drivers for the QuickCarrier USB E. Determining which Driver to Use Select your operating system and QuickCarrier USB E model number from the following table. Go to and select your MT100UCC from the Product drop down list. 2. Find the driver for your model and click the file s link. 3. Extract the zip files. Activating Cellular Device Accounts Some Multi Tech cellular modems have been pre configured to operate on a specific cellular network, such as Sprint or Verizon Wireless. However, before you can begin to use the modem, you must set up a cellular data account with your cellular network provider. Please refer to Multi Tech s Cellular Activation Web site for information on activating your cellular modem. QuickCarrier USB E Driver Installation Guide 5

6 Chapter 2 Installing C2 or G2 USB Drivers on Windows When using the MT100UCC C2 xx or MT100UCC G2 xx on Windows XP (SP3 or greater), VISTA, 2003/2008 Server, Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit), run the automatic installer from the driver you just downloaded from the Multi Tech website. Note: Certain versions of Windows have an issue with their CDC ACM driver (Usbser.sys). If you have connection problems (file download, web pages not loading) update your version of Usbser.sys. Microsoft article documents this issue and provides a fix. After installing the virtual com port, install the modem driver to the com port. Installing a Virtual COM Port Your downloaded driver files contain an installer program for current Windows operating systems (Windows XP and newer only). Run install.bat from the MTS_VCOM_autoinstall directory you down loaded. 1. From the Drivers folder, run the install.bat file to initiate the install. 2. If any Windows Install Wizard pops up, click Cancel. 3. A User Account Control window may appear. Select YES to continue with the driver installation. 4. Click on Next to start the driver pre installation. 5. Windows may display a Windows Logo testing window. Click Continue Anyway. A transitory screen appears, then the process continues. 6. 7 Installing the Modem Driver 1. Plug in the USB cable. The Found New Hardware Wizard opens. Chapter 2 Installing G2 USB Drivers on Windows 2. If the wizard prompts you to let Windows connect to Windows Update, select No, Not this time and click Next. 3. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next. 4. Click Browse and select the driver folder. Then, click Next. 5. Windows may display a Windows Logo testing window. Click Continue Anyway. 6. Click Finish. 7. Open Control Panel and double click 8. 9 11. Click Have Disk to browse to the Driver folder on your local PC. Chapter 2 Installing G2 USB Drivers on Windows 12. Browse to the Driver folder. 13. Select the MTSMCIP_MTCMRIP.INF file and click OK. 14. Scroll down the Model list and select your modem. Click Next. 15. If you know exactly which port your modem is on, click on that port. Click Next. To check which port your modem is installed on, go to Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT). QuickCarrier USB E Driver Installation Guide 9

Verifying Your Modem Installed Successfully After you have successfully installed the MultiModem driver, you should be brought back to the Phone and Modems Options screen. 1. Make sure that the modem is now listed under the column Modem and Attached To (the correct com port). 2. Highlight the modem and then click on Properties. 3. A Properties screen will open for the Multi Tech modem. Click on the tab labeled Diagnostics. 4. In the middle of the screen, click on the Query Modem button. Windows will now try to query the Multi Tech modem. If this process passes, the second box on this screen will show the columns Command and Response. 5. If this process passes, then the modem is ready for use. Click OK to close the modem Properties window. From the Temp folder, select DriverSetup.exe file. The Program Compatibility Assistant screen appears. 3. Click This program installed correctly. 4. Plug the USB cable into the PC. When the Driver Software Installation screen shows "Your device is ready to use," your modem is installed. QuickCarrier USB E Driver Installation Guide 11

12 Chapter 4 Installing EV2 USB Drivers on Windows Installing the Sierra Driver for EV2 Devices on Windows 7 Note: Don t plug the modem in until you install the driver. 1. Extract drivers to a Temp folder on your local PC. 2. Select the driver folder for your operating system. 3. Double click the Install##.####.cmd file, where ##.#### is the operating system. For example, the installation file for the Windows 7 64 bit operating system is Install64.Win7.cmd. 4. Click Yes, when asked if you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer. 5. Click Next. 6. Click Finish when the driver installation completed. 13 Chapter 4 Installing EV2 USB Drivers on Windows 7. Plug in the modem with a USB cable. Windows will detect the modem and associate the modem with multiple drivers. Verifying the Installation 1. If the Phone and Modem Options window is not open, click Start Control Panel Phone & Modem. 2. Click Modems. Your modem should be listed as shown in the following image. 3. Click Properties and then click Diagnostics. 4. Click Query Modem. When the query completes, the Diagnostics window updates with the results. QuickCarrier USB E Driver Installation Guide 13

15 Chapter 5 Installing H4 USB Drivers on Windows Installing the Sierra Driver for H4 Devices 1. Run DriverInst.exe. Note: Always run DriverInst.exe and not DriverIns64.exe, even if you have a 64 bit computer. DriverInst.exe detects whether you are running a 32 or 64 bit operating system and automatically launches the DriverInst64.exe if it detects a 64 bit operating system. 2. A User Account Control window may appear. Select YES to continue with the driver installation. 3. Plug in the USB cable. Windows installs the device driver. Verifying the Installation 1. Open the Control Panel and click Phone and Modems. 2. Click Modems. Your modem should be listed as shown in the following image. Click OK to close the Phone and Modem window. 16 Chapter 6 Installing Drivers on Linux Kernel Installing Linux Drivers Linux drivers are embedded in the Linux kernel. To install drivers on Linux kernel or higher: 1. Boot Ubuntu Operating System. 2. Plug the USB cable into the PC. 3. The Multi Tech modem is detected and installed immediately. 4. To show system status and the last devices installed, enter dmesg command. The following screen is an example. TTY Ports The following information describes what occurs in Linux and how to correlate a specific ttyusb port number to a specific radio function, such as AT command port or modem. Linux may install several ttyusb ports, but not all ports are functional. The primary interaction is with the AT Command Port and the modem port. Viewing TTY Port Assignments To determine which USB ports were assigned to a device: 1. Install the modem, 2. Go to the /var/log directory 3. 17 Chapter 6 Installing Drivers on Linux kernel 2.6.x Another way to determine which ports were assigned is to issue the following command in the /var/log directory and then connect device and watch in real time as ports get assigned: tail f syslog The following section shows how to query the installed TTY ports and describes the purpose of each assigned TTY port.
