9 2. LTE RF Performance Test Descriptions 2.1. Overview This chapter provides a high-level overview of the key software and hardware components necessary to configure and use the LTE RF Performance Test Packs Description LTE RF Performance Test Packs evaluate the performance of a UE against specific LTE RF Conformance Tests (3GPP ) and custom RF performance tests. The test cases provided by LTE RF Performance are dictated by the RF Acceptance Test Plans of key carriers. LTE RF Performance is not a full RF Conformance Test Solution, but rather a carrier acceptance test solution covering a subset of the conformance tests. LTE RF Performance tests focus on the performance of the UE transmitter and receiver. Transmitter tests include spectral purity, power range, and EVM. Receiver tests include sensitivity level, input level range, and spurious response. Additional tests provided by LTE RF Performance include specific RF conditions encountered during the deployment of LTE. These conditions may relate to issues of deploying in the 700 MHz band; including known interference and spectral limitations due to adjacent signals.

10 3. Using the LTE RF Performance Test Packs 3.1. Overview This chapter gives information on using LTE RF Performance Test Packs from Test Manager. This includes the following steps: 1. Configuring the Platform Parameters 2. Configuring the UE and Session Parameters 3. Locating the Test Cases 4. Running a Pre-defined Test Suite 5. Creating a Custom Test Suite 6. Configuring Test Case parameters 7. Running a Custom Test Suite 3.2. Configuring the Platform Parameters Supported Platforms The LTE RF Test Packs support the following platforms: 8100-B Platform Selection As indicated in the Test Manager User Manual, you cannot run a suite successfully unless it undergoes validation using the specified Platform, Session and UE Parameter files. To specify the platform, use the Platform Selection dropdown field in the Execute Session window, as shown in Figure Specifying a Platform File In addition to the Platform Selection, you must specify a Platform File. Refer to the Test Manager User Manual for more information on creating a Platform File.

15 Chapter Three: Using the Test Packs System Calibration The LTE RF module features two types of calibration procedures to ensure level and test measurement accuracies Calibration Procedure #1 The first calibration procedure is accessible though the platform file. This procedure measures the insertion loss for all the various paths between the test equipment in the system and the UE. After clicking the Calibration Wizard button under the 8100-B100 tab, the Calibration Wizard window displays, as shown in Figure 3-6. Follow the instructions under the User Actions pane for each step. After executing the instructions, click the Next button. The calibration procedure runs through a sequence of steps until it has measured all of the necessary signal paths for a given platform. Figure 3-6: Calibration Wizard

16 : LTE RF Performance User Manual Calibration Procedure #2 In addition to the Insertion Loss Calibration Procedure, there is an Active Calibration and Diagnostic Procedure that can be performed at the beginning of each suite execution. This calibration routine uses a highly accurate power sensor to detect and calibrate out LTE downlink level inaccuracies. It also includes a real-time calibration of the LTE network emulator measurement functions. You can enable the Active Calibration Procedure under the LTE RF tab of the Session File, as shown in Figure 3-7. If this feature is enabled, you should enter the uplink and downlink frequencies used during testing under this tab as well. If test cases are run for unspecified frequencies, the LTE RF software interpolates between the two closest frequencies. For the most accurate test results, you should specify the center frequencies of the EARFNCs used during testing. This Calibration Procedure does not require any cable changes, however the Agilent Power USB Power Sensor must be connected to port P18 of the SR8048 at all times when Active Calibration is enabled.

24 : LTE RF Performance User Manual Setting Up a New UE File To create a new UE file: 1. Select File>New>UE File. To edit an existing UE file, select File>Open>UE File. The UE file opens, as shown in Figure 3-16 Figure 3-16: Editing UE file 2. Under the Platform File tab, you can enter the UE Insertion Loss values, as shown in Figure a. These Loss Values specify the loss between the end of the Spirent system cables and the UE. Test Manager calibrates all signal paths and cables that ship with the system. b. You may need to use couplers to connect a UE antenna port to the N-Type Spirent cables. In addition, if you are using an isolation chamber, the loss values specified in this table should include the loss of the through connection into the isolation chamber.

25 Chapter Three: Using the Test Packs 21 Figure 3-17: LTE RF Parameters in the UE File 3. The RF-LTE tab allows you to configure the parameters to match the UE under Test. The available parameters are shown in Figure This tab is also where you can configure the optional UE power supply in conjunction with AT commands for UE automation. Turn off the power supply after the detach command and turn it on prior to the attach command. When turned on, the power supply is configured as specified by the parameters set on this tab. 4. The UE AT Interface tab, shown in Figure 3-18, contains parameters related to UE automation. a. UE automation allows you to control the UE over the data port during the execution of a test suite. b. You must edit the COM Port Settings to tell the Test Manager software how to communicate to the UE. These include parameters such as Port Number, Data Rate, and Parity. You must also specify the Command Strings for each AT command. Command strings for a given function vary depending on the UE manufacturer.

26 : LTE RF Performance User Manual Figure 3-18: UE AT Interface Parameters in the UE File Test Time Optomization The Session Form called The Enable Test Case Execution Time Reduction option is available from the Session Form shown in Figure When this parameter is enabled, the LTE RF software performs a single E201S configuration and UE attach, and then performs multiple test measurements. When enabled, the LTE RF software automatically scans the suite to determine where optimizations can be performed. The test time is greatly decreased in cases where a a given test case needs to be run for a variety of resource block allocations or modulation types. Because the first test case in an optimized block of test cases is responsible for the E2010s configuration and establishing the LTE connection with the UE, it will take the longest amount of time to run. After the first test case completes, subsequent test cases are executed quickly with only slight variations to Air Interface parameters. NOTE: For test time optimization work properly, Validation must be enabled when running the suite, as shown in Figure During the Validations step, the LTE RF software scans the suite for blocks of test cases that can be optimized. There are some feature limitations when running with optimization enabled. Skipping test cases during execution and re-running failed or incomplete test cases are not supported.

Repeat the above steps for the ESG2 using for the IP address External Filters for Verizon Supplimentary Emissions Tests This section applies to the external filters for the Verizon Supplementary Band 13 and Band 4 Spurious Emissions test. For some very low limit Spurious Emissions test cases (-80 dbm/mhz), it is necessary to use external filters. The filters block the UE carrier signal; this allows the input attenuator of the spectrum analyzer to be set to zero. This is the only way the spectrum analyzer can make the measurements specified in these test cases. The only test suites this applies to are: VzW LTE Spurious Emissions with GPS Frequencies Band 13.STE VzW SVLTE Spurious Emissions with GPS Frequencies Band 13 BC0.STE VzW SVLTE Spurious Emissions with GPS Frequencies Band 13 BC1.STE VzW LTE Spurious Emissions with GPS Frequencies Band 4.STE There are two different filters: one for Band 4 and one for Band 13. To use this filter, disconnect the n-type cable from the input of the spectrum analyzer and connect the filter to the spectrum analyzer port.

31 Chapter Three: Using the Test Packs 27 Reconnect the cable to the other end of the filter. Run only the listed test cases with a filter attached. Remove the filter for all other testing. The LTE RF software has stored data pertaining to these filters and automatically accounts for the additional loss introduced by the filter SVLTE (Simultaneous Voice and LTE) Testing The LTE RF Module supports testing LTE RF performance in the presence of a 1xRTT voice call. The 1xRTT voice call is established using an Agilent 8960 with a CDMA2000 lab application installed. Doing this testing requires external RF hardware in order to combine the LTE and the 1xRTT signal to the UE antennas. Since this external hardware adds loss to the signal path it is important to change the platform file to include an 8960 then run the calibration procedure. After running calibration consult the LTE-B100 & C2K ATS SVLTE setup guide to cable the external hardware to match the antenna configuration of the device under test. Since the antenna configurations vary from UE to UE the cabling of this hardware will vary with the device under test. The supported antenna configurations are provided in the table below. Configuration Number UE Antenna 1 Ant 1 - Primary LTE TX/RX Ant 2 - Secondary LTE RX + 1X TX/RX 2 Ant 1 - Primary LTE TX/RX + 1X TX/RX Ant 2 - Secondary LTE RX 3 Ant 1 - Primary LTE TX/RX + 1X RX Ant 2 - Secondary LTE RX + 1X TX 4 Ant 1 - Primary LTE TX/RX Ant 2 - Secondary LTE DRX Ant 3 1X TX/RX After connecting the external hardware and indicated in the Setup Guide, be sure to specify the correct antenna configuration in the Platform File, as shown in Figure 3-21.

32 : LTE RF Performance User Manual Figure 3-21: Antenna Configuration Set the CDMA2000 parameters in the UE file. You must first enable SVLTE in order for the CDMA200 parameters to be configurable. Figure 3-22: SVLTE Setting Enabled Individual test cases allow you to specify CDMA200 Band Class and Channel Number. The purpose of the LVLTE test pack is to verify if a UE can pass LTE RF Performance requirements while maintaining a 1xRTT voice call. When LTE RF Performance tests are run with SVLTE enabled, a 1xRTT call is set up prior to performing the LTE RF measurements during the test sequence. The status of the 1xRTT call is monitored. If the call drops during the test or if the UE does not perform to the minimum requirements specified by the test, it will be reported as a failure.
