4 Getting Started: How to connect a PC with Sceptar III. 1. Start the Programming software. 2. Turn off the pager. (Keep the pager off for programming.) 3. Connect PC to pager with the USB cable. 4. To enter programming mode, press [mode] button for 3 seconds. This will establish a connection between the PC & the Sceptar III. Note: If this is the FIRST time you ve connected a Sceptar III to your PC, Windows will install a driver and will require a reboot to complete the driver installation. Failure to reboot may result in no communication to the pager. The and the 12 status message will change as follows; Confirm that the PC has successfully connected to the pager by viewing the connection status and read/write icons in the CPS software. Notice that the icons illuminate when the pager is connected in programming mode. Menus: 1. File Use the File menu to create, save and load saved personality files: New: Create new file creates a new file with default parameters Open: Load saved file from PC Save: Save current personality to the PC Save as: Save current personality with new file name. Print: Print frequency data, channel and alert parameters. Exit: Exit the program. 2. Programming Read: Read current personality from the pager Write: Write loaded personality to the pager Verify: Confirm that the Write to the pager was successful

5 3. Help Help: About: This menu is not available in the current software release. Display the software information Parameters: 1. Pager information (See 2 on Page 1) When the PC is connected with the pager, the Serial No and 2 nd Ch. Freq. (Freq. 2-6) will be displayed as programmed in the pager. 2. Tone call format (See 3 on Page 1) Two Tone call format can be changed as desired. User can select from a list of preset call formats or use the User mode to select custom tone timing parameters Motorola, GE, Plectron (Fast Plectron), Reach (Fast Reach), User 3. Function Knob and Reset Settings (See 5 on Page 1) 5: Assign functions (See 5 on Page 1) Channel functions can be programmed (A-D) on Function knob. Note: Function setting mode will be overwritten for A-D knob. Alert settings are assigned by the pager on a per function basis. 6: Reset Control (See 6 on Page 1) Select how to reset audio receive mode after paging. Please see Reset Controls Page for details. 4. Alert Settings (See on Page 1) 7: Alert Setting (See 7 on Page 1) User can preview each alert setting with the [Play] button. The [Play button] will preview the alert sound on your PC speakers. 8: Setting personal alert with a WAV file (See 8 on Page 1) User can set and arrange personal alert with [Add] button. 9: Custom Tones using General Music Alert (See 9 on Page 1) Dialogue box will be opened with [Add] button.

Each checkbox represents 80ms of vibration, for a total of 1 second of vibration. 5.

6 User can change music alert pattern individually and sample it on your PC by pressing [play] button. 10: Vibrate Setting (See 10 on Page 1) There are 12 different vibrate patterns to select from. Use the checkboxes to create a custom vibrate pattern. Each checkbox represents 80ms of vibration, for a total of 1 second of vibration. 5. Frequency and Signaling Parameters (See 4 on Page 1) User can configure for each frequency (Freq. 1-6) Recover Frequency will set RF frequency 2 Tone call frequency will set the call pattern(s) for the frequency 1 st & 2 nd tone frequency can be set. 7 Alert &.Alert Vibrate & settings Vibrate settings Alert and Vibrate can be selected Number from pull down menu. Basic information will be set to 10 Vibrate Setting. Group Call Uses the Long Tone for group call alert. Separate alert/vibrate settings are available similar to the 2 tone call programming. CTCSS/DCS When CTCSS or DCS is selected on 4 Call System T&V function will be terminated and Pager will turn to be Receiver (optional). All Delete can delete all parameters. 6. Global Options (See 11 on Page 1) Fixed Alert [On] Volume of alert tones will be a max volume regardless of the volume knob position. (Disables volume knob control for alert tones.) [Off] The Volume control knob determines the volume level of the alert tones. Alert Duration [Standard] The Alert timing setting after 2 nd tone detection [Fixed] The Alert timing will be fixed at a 0-60 second duration after the 2 nd tone detection Mute Mode When mute is set to [ON] and Alert mode is set to Vibrate only, the pager alerts will be muted. Call Reminder The call reminder setting will remind a user of an unheard message with an audible beep. Programmable to OFF, 30, 60 or 90 seconds for unheard messages. Priority Alert If [ON], Even if Alert mode is set to vibrate only by the user, any calls on

8 CH1 will have alert tone when paged. Privacy Audio will be muted in case of forced monitor by [ON] setting Battery Saving This Function is designed to extend battery life if [ON]. Min. Volume Selects a Minimum Volume level, 10 steps (0-9) Voice Announce Voice Announce function is on at default. This function can turn off voice announcements when the pager is activated or another function is selected.

Communications for Public Safety & Industry Auto When paged and the receiving carrier drops, the audio output and recording will stop immediately. RESET BUTTON Delay N sec.

During the N seconds delay, the pager will be open squelch monitor mode, outputting all audio on the channel. Revert SQ If in selective call mode and paged, the operation will change to monitor mode.

9 Communications for Public Safety & Industry Auto When paged and the receiving carrier drops, the audio output and recording will stop immediately. RESET BUTTON Delay N sec. When paged and the receiving carrier drops, the audio output and recording will stop after N seconds. During the N seconds delay, the pager will be open squelch monitor mode, outputting all audio on the channel. Revert SQ If in selective call mode and paged, the operation will change to monitor mode. When receiving carrier is dropped the first time, the recording will stop and the pager will revert to a squelched monitor mode until the user presses Reset/M button. After reset is pushed, the pager will return to Selective Call mode. Manual When paged and the receiving carrier drops, the pager will remain in open squelch monitor mode outputting all audio on the channel until the user presses the Reset/M button. After reset is pushed, the pager will return to the selected mode for that channel (monitor or selective call). Timeout N sec. When paged, the pager will go into an open squelch monitor mode for N seconds after the paging tones are finished. Once the N seconds expires, the audio output and recording will stop and the pager will return to the selected mode for that channel (monitor or selective call). Revert N sec. When paged on a selective call channel, the pager will enter an open squelch monitor mode and records for N Seconds after the initial paging tones are finished. After the N Seconds expire, the pager will revert to a squelched monitor mode. It will not record during this time, but the user will be able to hear all traffic on the channel until they press the Reset/M button. After reset is pushed, the pager will return to the selected mode for that channel (monitor or selective call). Muted Delay N sec. When paged and the receiving carrier drops, the audio output and recording will stop after N seconds. During the N seconds delay, the pager will be in a squelched monitor mode, outputting all audio on the channel. Muted Revert N sec. When paged on a selective call channel, the pager will enter a squelched monitor mode and records for N Seconds after the initial paging tones are finished. After the N Seconds expire, recording will stop, but the pager will remain in the squelched monitor mode. It will not record during this time, but the user will be able to hear all traffic on the channel until they press the Reset/M button. After reset is pushed, the pager will return to the selected mode for that channel (monitor or selective call).
